The Ukrainians are putting up a very good fight under the circumstances because ONE President in the past 3 Administrations armed them with many defensive weapons, despite outside pressure from our allies, and democrat politicians. Name the ONLY President that instead of sending MRE's and blankets(Nobam when Crimea was invaded) he sent defensive weapons!
Now, one more. Only one president in the past 4 decades has ordered troops to kill Russian forces, because they were doing things that they were warned not to, and made it dangerous for our military. So my question is...name the only American President that allowed our military to defend itself from Russian forces, resulting in the death and destruction of around 3-400 Russian soldiers!

I have a feeling that is trumped up quite a bit but Putin does have to really decide what his goal is here and what its going to cost to actually toss out the current President etc. I think he realizes he would never win by installing a puppet govt and having Russian soldiers as sitting ducks trying to occupy that place for a long period. I think he might settle for some written agreement that Ukraine wont get nukes and won't join NATO. I could see him leaving Troops longer term in that border area however where the people like Russia more than their own govt supposedly.
Any military tactics people here? What would be Putin's best way to capture that President without a bunch of carnage if they don't come to an agreement? They have had a lot of time to set up the best protection they can against that and Putin doesn't want a scene of a bunch of Russians getting killed being seen in Russia.
If I was Putin I would just stay in that more pro-Russia area mostly and make demands for withdrawal on the nukes and NATO stuff in addition to some of the sanctions. He probably doesn't have to worry about too many civilians wanting to shoot Russian soldiers in the streets there like he does in the other parts of the country. Being that Putin is type of person he is he might insist on that President being removed forcefully though.
Zelensky is turning out to be a real leader. I am afraid he will be captured or die in the coming weeks, but he is an inspiration to the whole country to fight on. I wish we would do more to help him, but we are walking a tight rope.

It would have been, and still would be, a serious risk to allow them into NATO. IMO that ship sailed in 2014 when Putin invaded the Crimea.
To allow Ukraine in now, or to put NATO boots on the ground today would be EXTREMELY risky and the stakes are actual global annihilation.

So this strikes me as terribly odd.
France is notorious for NOT wanting to fight, yet here they do something that will almost assuredly draw a swift response from Russia.
There's a lot of people who are pretty smart who are now saying we are getting the wrong story on this. I think we should all be watching VERY closely and thinking very carefully about this. The players involved may not be playing the roles we think they are.
Don't know what to think about a lot of this but the media push is reaching a comedy gold level almost. They are almost to the point of trying to convince people that Ukraine is now pushing back the Russian military with civilians armed with rifles and molotov cocktails. I think Russia is just getting their supply lines and things situated and will probably be making a big move soon.
