Is Ron DeSantis Flaming Out Already?

The Florida governor has a plan to win the Fox News primary—and lose everything else.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis has long sought to avoid taking a position on Russia’s war in Ukraine. On the eve of the Russian invasion, 165 Florida National Guard members were stationed on a training mission in Ukraine. They were evacuated in February 2022 to continue their mission in neighboring countries. When they returned to Florida in August, DeSantis did not greet them. He has not praised, or even acknowledged, their work in any public statement.

DeSantis did find time, however, to admonish Ukrainian officials in October for not showing enough gratitude to new Twitter owner Elon Musk. (Musk returned the favor by endorsing DeSantis for president.) On tour this month to promote his new book, DeSantis has clumsily evaded questions about the Russian invasion. When a reporter for The Times of London pressed the governor, DeSantis scolded him: “Perhaps you should cover some other ground? I think I’ve said enough.”

Even his allies found this medley of past hawkishness and present evasiveness worrying—especially because he was on record, in 2014 and 2015, urging the Obama administration to send both “defensive and offensive” weapons to Ukraine after the Russian annexation of Crimea. So last night, DeSantis delivered a more definitive answer on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show.

DeSantis’s statement on Ukraine was everything that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his admirers could have wished for from a presumptive candidate for president. The governor began by listing America’s “vital interests” in a way that explicitly excluded NATO and the defense of Europe. He accepted the present Russian line that Putin’s occupation of Ukraine is a mere “territorial dispute.” He endorsed “peace” as the objective without regard to the terms of that peace, another pro-Russian talking point. He conceded the Russian argument that American aid to Ukraine amounts to direct involvement in the conflict. He endorsed and propagated the fantasy—routinely advanced by pro-Putin guests on Fox talk shows—that the Biden administration is somehow plotting “regime change” in Moscow. He denounced as futile the economic embargo against Russia—and baselessly insinuated that Ukraine is squandering U.S. financial assistance. He ended by flirting with the idea of U.S. military operations against Mexico, an idea that originated on the extreme right but has migrated toward the Republican mainstream.

Frum and his ilk want -and need - for RDS to NOT be the nominee so that Trump is the nominee to lose once again to the old senile idiot from Delaware.
Should one of the other Republican candidates surge they’ll suddenly become the most awful authoritarian boot wearing Pudding eating person on the face of the earth.

He is...just follow the polling

If weekday polling has him at 18% this coming week or two this will have been a big flop. He was up to like 36% last month in some legit polls.

Key word...legit.

He is done even if his idiot team doesnt realize it. Social media clearly points to that. The main question now is does it make it more likely the Obama crooks pull the trigger on joke indictments against Trump.

I'm sure the democrats are crossing their fingers that Biden will face Trump.

These “polls” are interesting...who’s behind them? Who’s funding them? Who’s selecting the questions? Who’s selecting the demographic being polled?

The game is much bigger than some of the Trump fan boys on here realize. But they’ve bought into a person, not their country.

Yep ones that thought 5D chess was being played and Comey and them would actually be arrested even after it became 100% clear Durham wasnt going to be alllowed to do that.

Let me guess Brian Cates told you JFK Jr. was really alive and would be making an appearance when all the deep state crooks were taken down.

If 5 states don't adress voter integrity, it doesn't matter who either Party nominates. There are not 81 million Americans stupid enough to vote for what Joe promised and is delivering.

Everyone get out your fake mensa translator devices...

This fake mensa message actually means..."If 5 more states don't try to suppress voting we have no chance"

goldmom and I don't agree on most things but she's 100% right here

I guess the fake "Red Wave" polling of groups like Trafalgar didn't convince the trump fan boys

Its good to see being a conservative in 2023 doesn't mean you have to be blind to trump demagoguery

You know dang well Baris stuff was good and 2022 was about the only year he was off like that unlike most of the lefty ones which were damn near off every election except 2022 in more recent elections and maybe the 2018 house race.

You mean THIS guy? LOL

Baris while Nate Silver carried most of the joke lefty pulls and didnt carry his had a real good track record until 2022. 2022 was a crazy year as in the big races the usually crappy polls were more accurate. Not sure if Dems having ballot collecting down caused that or what. I will say Trafalgar did put out some comedy level stuff in 2022 like some old lefty polls from the past. I wonder if he wasn't being paid to do that in 2022.

Trump let a big fart out on the Republican Party, I’d bet my whole years salary they’ll be a Democrat in the White House again come 2024 and for anyone thinking Trump goes back in have lost their minds

Ballsy considering that we don’t know who will headline either ticket.

I hear Joe Biden visits him from time to time.
Last time I checked ole Joe’s still among us, I’m waiting to see who’s got the balls to stand on their own 2 feet instead of riding Trumps jock before I believe a candidate has a shot at winning I just don’t see it happening Bama

He teeters betwixt here and the netherworld my friend.

Tough to say who will win. We have very few ideas about who the Democratic candidate will be. There's no certainly about the Republican candidate at this point.

Hell, in two years, both Joe and Trump could pass.

Biden vs Trump in 24. That's a given to me. Unless Biden dies or Trump is in prison.

If I had to hazard a guess at the Democratic nominee, I'd say Newsom. Outside shot it's Michelle but that's sort of nuts, right?

I don't believe it'll be Joe.

Trying to figure out if he was told its over already they are pulling the plug or was this just another bonehead move by his team. That little porn star snide remark will finish him off faster than he was already going to be finished off.

Team DeSantis brilliant strategy to take Trump down so far:

1. After lifting most Covid restrictions begin a real hardcore campaign to show Trump's base you are with them. Engage Disney over their woke mess, the schools and convince people you punished Disney when you actually only installed a new board over their property that left all their breaks in place. Start bussing illegals up north etc.

2. Roll out Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan on Fox News to give you a glowing endorsement. lol

3. Next get Trump hating impeachment endorsing Congressman Chip Roy (the same one that said Jan 6th protesters needed to be locked away for a long time) to endorse you.

4. Have Fox News run the DeSantis worshipping game with their employees while paying a bunch of conservative social media influencers to push DeSantis 24/7. I am sure the Rep base won't notice something is up with that. Ron is just like Trump you know.

5. Have DeSantis act above the fray (to look professional) while Trump is pounding him on social media and at speeches that he is nothing but a globalist RINO and like a twin of Mitt Romney.

5. Have him ignore Trump's tweet for the whole weekend that there are leaks they may be arresting Trump on Tuesday. Continue to ignore even when another candidate dings you a couple of times for not saying anything for that long.

6. After nearly 72 hours or so put out a weak statement about George Soros prosecutors and throw a snide remark at Trump about pornstars. lol

You might be happy about one thing. If Team DeSantis did have a meeting over the weekend a couple of his paid influencers on social media seem to be implying they know he isnt taking any MAGA from Trump now and the snide remark about the pornstar was to appeal to the voters like you. Problem with that strategy I think is with his waffling on Ukraine the Trump hating bloc of the party might just go with Hailey or someone like that since they know the Trojan horse game has failed.
