Gator Spring sports beginning soon...

UF baseball drops to #23 in the national rankings, with 7 SEC teams ahead of us. And that's being generous to Florida, IMO. Unranked, 19-6, 2-4 Alabama comes to town this weekend.

Well, we all admitted that it was going to be a slow start to the season with so many FNG's playing, so I'm not going to bitch or act surprised now. We still just have to wait and see if they can develop enough across the season to make it to the CWS.

The hitting so far is about where O'Sullivan teams have been - mid to upper 1/3 of the league. But the pitching and defense have been pretty bad. I love Gator baseball, will continue watching and going to a game now and then, pulling for they guys to win some games.

UF baseball beat FSU for the 10th straight time tonight 4-2 behind some excellent pitching, combined with 3 FSU errors and a couple of timely hits. Nolan Crisp only gave up 1 hit through the 1st 5 innings, but after giving up a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 6th, Jordan Butler threw .2 innings and then Christian Scott tossed 4.1 scoreless innings to get the win. Langworthy doubled in our 1st run and Brady McConnell got a 2-out 2 run double in the 7th as part of a 3 run inning to put UF ahead and give us the win.

FSU must be terrible. Mike Martin isn’t going out on a good note at all. Losing 10 games in row to us.

your men's gymnastics team is impressive....Isn't that a rule if you field a men's gymnastics team you automatically become the prison bitch?

The #24 UF (17-10, 1-5 SEC) continue to have the number of the #21 FSUcks Baseball (17-7). The two teams met in Jacksonville Tuesday night and Florida came away with their 10th win in a row over the Seminoles and the 15th win out of the 16 games between the two in a 4-2 win.

Hey dust-bowl choke-la-home, could you tell us how many Big-whatever teams are in the Top 25, compared to how many SEC teams, in both baseball and softball? (crickets)

Cliff Notes on Holloway: ;)

Gators Head Coach Mike Holloway has built a dynamic Track and Field program that regularly wins national titles.

The Florida Men are likely to qualify several members for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships East Preliminary as they gear up for a potential run toward a 5th Outdoor National Title this decade.

The Gators claimed their 5th Indoor National Title of the decade – and 2nd Consecutive – March 9 in Birmingham, Ala. The UF Men's run of success under the direction of Head Coach Mike Holloway qualifies as a Dynasty in the world of college athletics.

Okay, now I like DT Adam Shuler 6-4 275 even more.... :)

In the spring of 2015, Adam Shuler won the Florida Class 4A State Championship in the Discus and followed that performance with a victory in the Golden South Classic, a notable track meet held each May in Orlando.

Shuler was named The Orlando Sentinel's Boys Track Athlete of the Year. His discus throw of 192 feet, 9 inches on his final attempt at the state meet his senior year broke a Central Florida record in the event that had stood for 39 years. Shuler also finished 3rd in the shot put.
Note: WVa doesn't have a Men's track team but UF does, helping UF get him when he was a Grad-xfer. --- Thank You Coach Holloway (both Men's & Women's T&F coach) ;)

Shuler recently joined the UF men's track team for the outdoor season, returning to competition last weekend at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee. Shuler finished 2nd with a throw of 174-4 in his collegiate debut, 4 years since he last competed in a meet. ~ Shuler has added more than 30 pounds to his frame since he threw the discus in high school.
~ How serious is Shuler about returning to form?
"My goal is to break the UF school record,'' he said.

Currently, that record belongs to Wes Stockbarger, who has owned the mark since 2007 when he made a throw of 201-5 at the NCAA East Regional. That's less than 10 feet beyond what Shuler accomplished in high school, so it's a reasonable thought.

For the rest of the story....

Tommy Mace threw a complete game, 119 pitch 3-hitter to lead the Gators to a 3-1 win over Alabama in the opening game of their series. Mace struck out 7 and walked only 1, while the defense played errorless ball. UF only got 7 hits, 2 each from Young & McConnell, with 2 RBI's from Maldanado. UF is now 18-10 overall, 2-5 in the SEC.

UF softball won a marathon 15 inning game at Ole Miss tonight 5-2. Kelly Barnhill pitched the entire game for the Gators, throwing 205 pitches, giving up 9 hits and striking out 17. Gators scored 1 run on the 2nd on a Jordan Roberts HR, then added another in the 4th on a sac fly from Sophia Reynoso. Ole Miss got their 2 runs in the 5th on 3 hits bunched around an error (Gators lead the nation in fielding percentage). It stayed that way until the top of the 15th when Kendyl Lindamana belted a 3-run HR after Ole Miss intentionally walked Amanda Lorenz. UF improves to 29-6, 3-4 in the SEC.

UF's #2 Men's Tennis team improved to 16-2, 8-0 in the SEC with a 5-2 win over LSU Friday afternoon, their 10th straight win. These guys played their 15th consecutive match vs. a Top 50 opponent. They have a big match against #7 Texas A&M Sunday afternoon in Gainesville.

Meanwhile the #6 UF Men's Swimming & Diving Team (SEC champs), head to today's final sessions of the NCAA Championships in Austin, TX in 6th place with 136 points, trailing Cal, Texas, Indiana, N.C. St. & Louisville.

Gator Lacrosse opened American Conference play in Philadelphia today and beat Temple 15-8 to even their season record at 6-6. The Gators only led 6-5 at halftime, but dominated the 2nd half and won 15-8. Their next game is a conference match hosting Vanderbilt next Saturday at noon.

UF softball lost to Ole Miss today 8-4 on a walk-off, 2-out grand slam home run by Abby Latham off Kelly Barnhill in the bottom of the 8th. Elizabeth Hightower pitched the 1st 5 innings for Florida and pitched well, giving up 3 runs (2 earned). The Gators rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the top of the 4th on a solo HR by Jamie Hoover and a 2-out 3 run HR by Kendyl Lindaman. Ole Miss starting pitcher Molly Jacobson, who came into the weekend leading the SEC in ERA had pitched the final 10 innings of last night's game, taking the loss, threw the 1st 7 innings today. Coach Walton brought Barnhill in in the 6th, up 4-3 and she retired the side in order. But in the bottom of the 7th, Ole Miss loaded the bases with nobody out on a single and error on the play, a passed ball, a hit batter and a walk. Barnhill struck out the next 2 batters and needed 1 more out to win the game. But on the 1st pitch she hit the batter, driving in the tying run. Ole Miss brought in last night's starting pitcher Brittany Finney in the top of the 8th and, after walking Lindaman, she retired the side in order. In the bottom of the inning, Barnhill gave up a 1-out walk, then on a ball hit back to the pitcher she made an errant throw to 1st that was ruled a hit. The next batter walked, loading the bases with 1 out. A force out at home brought up Latham, who cranked the 1st pitch out of the park. Gators drop to 29-7, 3-5 in the SEC. Coming into the weekend leading the nation in fielding percentage, the Gators committed an error last night and 3 more today. We've already lost more conference games than in each of the last 2 seasons, with series remaining against Arkansas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Auburn and Miss. St. Despite the additions of Caraway and Lindaman (who has been carrying the team offensively), it is obvious that we desperately miss the play and leadership of Nicole DeWitt, Alicia Ocasio, Janell Wheaton and Kayli Kvistad.

Gators baseball pounded Alabama tonight 12-3 to improve to 19-10, 3-5 in the SEC. Tyler Dyson started the game, but was pulled with 1 out in the 4th. Christian Scott pitched great ball through the 8th innings and Ben Specht cleaned up the 9th. UF pounded out 16 hits, including 2 HR's by Brady McConnell, plus home runs from Maldanado, Young & Dalton.

Gator baseball completed a sweep of Alabama with a 6-3 win to improve to 20-10, 4-5 in the SEC. Langworthy had 2 hits and 3 RBI's including a HR, while McConnell, Dalton & Calilao had 2 hits apiece. Jack Leftwich started the game but left with 2 on and nobody out in the 2nd inning with a finger problem. Hunter Ruth went 7.2 innings and got the win. Ruth was great, being replaced with 2 outs in the 9th after giving up a walk, leading 6-1. Jordan Butler came and promptly gave up a 2-run HR before getting the final out.

UF's #2 ranked Men's Tennis team won a huge match today vs. #7 Texas A&M 4-2. After losing the doubles point the Gators came back to win the singles match at #1, #2, #5 & #6, losing only at #3 before the match ended. It was the Gators' 11th straight win, improving their record to 17-2, 9-0 in the SEC.

UF softball team lost their 3rd straight SEC series, losing to #22 Ole Miss today 3-1, falling to 29-8, 3-6 in conference. Kelly Barnhill took her 2nd straight loss, only giving up 4 hits (2 HR's). The Gators got 7 hits, but stranded 10 bases runners, as they continue to have problems getting hits with runners on. They committed 2 more errors today (6 for the weekend), plus had a couple of passed balls, as this team is not playing well. They have to face FSU Wednesday before hosting Arkansas next weekend.

UF Baseball moved up to #20 in the latest rankings after going 4-0 last week. 8 SEC teams are ahead of Florida, although UCLA & Stanford are 1 & 2. FSU has dropped out of the Top 25.

Weekly Top 25 rankings come out tomorrow for softball, but the Gators are currently tied for 9th in the SEC with Georgia, both at 3-6 in conference play. Florida was the pre-season pick to win the 2019 SEC title, with Georgia picked 2nd. Alabama, picked 8th in the pre-season, currently leads the standings at 7-2, 36-2 overall.

Looks like ole 'Riley Coyote' is losing his (BS) touch....
Happens when you tell QB Rattler that you're not taking another QB, but as soon as he's signed ole Riley Coyote went and signed a Grad-xfer QB. Shame (chit) on him. :p

PS -- Also, all of the Florida Big 3's (UF-FSU-Mia) are in the Top 12 Classes.

UF baseball improved to 21-10 tonight with an easy 12-1 over FAMU. 5 Gator pitchers combined on a 2 hitter, with Nolan Crisp & David Leuthje pitching the 1st 6. Team ERA over the last 5 games is under 2.0. Gator hitters got 14 hits, led by Maldanado & Langworthy with 3 each, while Young & Acton had 2 hits each. Big road trip to Ole Miss this weekend.

#8/9/11 UF softball lost at home tonight to #1/3/3 FSU 2-0. (Rankings depend on which poll you look at.) Nole pitcher Megan King gave up 6 hits and no walks and a hit batter, but Gator hitters were 1-12 with runners on base. Kelly Barnhill only gave up 4 hits, but walked 4, plus surrendered another HR, as the Gators dropped to 29-9 on the year. We are 20-0 vs. unranked teams, 9-9 vs. ranked teams, but only 4-7 in the last 11 games against ranked teams. Lack of hitting with runners on base continues to plague this team, as they look more & more inept against good pitchers.

In our softball team's 9 losses we have been shut out 4 times and scored only 1 run in 3 others. Last year we were 29-8 vs. ranked opponents and that included 2 losses in the WCWS. And Kelly Barnhill has now given up 11 home runs this year. And the weekend opponent, Arkansas, has their best team in years, coming in ranked #14. While we are 2nd in the SEC in ERA and 1st in fielding percentage at .985, our batting average at .287 is 12th. Our 194 offensive strikeouts is 2nd worst in the league. While pitching is not as dominant as it has been in recent years, it's the hitting, especially clutch hitting, that has fallen off dramatically.

UF softball beat Arkansas in the opener of their weekend series 3-0 behind Kelly Barnhill's 3 hit, 8 K performance, improving her record to 20-5. Florida has now beaten Arkansas 28 straight games going back to 2007!! The Gators only got 3 hits themselves and only 1 RBI (H. Adams). All 3 runs were unearned due to 2 errors and a couple of other shoddy infield plays by Arkansas. Florida also had 3 runners thrown out at home, but improved their record to 30-9, 4-6 in the SEC.

UF baseball got hammered by Ole Miss Friday night 12-4. Tommy Mace only lasted 3.1 innings, throwing 50 pitches and giving up 6 runs on 12 hits. 5 other Gator pitchers gave up 5 more hits and 6 more runs, 5 of them earned. We only got 5 hits for the game, Brady McConnell getting 3 of them. He & Matt Damon hit solo HR's.

UF lacrosse improved to 7-6, 2-0 in conference play, their 4th win in a row, with a dominant 18-9 win over Vanderbilt. Vandy came into the match 9-2, but had only played 2 games against ranked teams, none vs. Top 10 opponents. Florida has played 8 matches vs. ranked opponents, 4 against Top 10 teams.

Baseball team got whacked again in the 1st game of their doubleheader today 16-4 by Ole Miss. 7 of the Rebels run were unearned, but the gator pitchers allowed 20 hits, 6 walks, a hit batter and 2 wild pitches, while our offense only scored 1 run in the 3rd and 3 in the 8th, while getting 14 hits with 11 strikeouts and 9 left on base. 2nd game starting around 5:30.
