UF plays in a conference that has 5 teams in the Top 10, and 4 more in the Top 20. (9)

Chokers play in a conference that has 1 Team in the Top 10, with 3 more in the Top 20. (4)

Pretty much the same pattern in ever sport when comparing the SEC to the has-been Big-whatever...

PS -- What year was the chokers last CWS Championship? o_O
UF beat FSU 20-7 in baseball not softball

Gator lacrosse continues to struggle, losing another close game today 11-9 to #3 North Carolina, dropping their record to 3-5. Not good for a team that started the season ranked #4.

UF baseball lost their 2nd straight to Miss. St. this afternoon 10-5. 2nd game of today's doubleheader starts at 6 pm and they need Tyler Dyson to be sharp. Jack Leftwich went 5.1 innings and gave up 5 earned runs and the 4 bullpen pitchers, just like last night, were ineffective. Freshman J T Ginn, drafted in the 1st rounder by the Dodgers and turned down 2-3 million to go to Starkeville, ran his record to 5-0, overmatching the Gators until he ran out of gas in the 7th inning. Gators hitter struck out 13 times last night and 12 times today. Miss. State is now 18-1, Florida 14-7.

Gator baseball salvaged the 3rd game of the series with Miss. St., winning 4-2. Tyler Dyson pitched a solid 6 innings and Christian Scott got a 2.1 inning save. Gators were led at the plate by Nelson Maldanado, who went 3-4 with a double and HR, and Kris Armstrong, who played 3rd base in the game, with 2 hits, including a double. Jacob Young, playing left field in place of Langworthy, robbed Jake Mangum of a 3 run HR in the 7th inning that would have put the Bulldogs on top.

#7 UF softball won their opening game vs. #9 LSU in Baton Rouge in dramatic fashion tonight, winning 4-3. Both teams had only 3 hits, but LSU had a 1-0 lead going to the top of the 7th on a double & triple off Kelly Barnhill in the 5th. Florida only had a bunt single as they came up for their final at bat. With 1 out, Jamie Hoover walked, Jordan Matthews singled and Caraway reached on a fielder's choice. LSU intentionally walked Amanda Lorenz to load the bases with 2 outs and Kendyl Lindaman made them pay with a grand slam HR to put the Gators up 4-1. In the bottom of the 7th, Barnhill gave up a walk and HR before retiring the next 3 batters for the win. Barnhill goes to 15-2 on the year, UF to 24-4, 2-2 in the SEC. The regular SEC Network carries Sundays game at 5 pm and Mondays game at 7 pm.

Gator softball just got run ruled by LSU 8-0, our 2nd run rule loss in 5 SEC games. Our pitchers have given up 11 home runs in 5 conference games this year and other than Lorenz & Lindaman we don't have anybody hitting at all, especially with runners on base. We only had 1 bunt single last night until the 7th inning and today all we had are 2 singles by Lindaman and a single from Reynoso. And LSU's pitchers aren't among the best in the league. Coach Walton has been expressing concern for a couple of weeks about our lack of production, especially from the middle of the lineup. He's switched players around, benched a couple and started a couple different players, trying to mix it up and find ladies who can produce. But as we get into the meat of the schedule, it's looking more & more like we won't be among the elites this year. Very good team - absolutely. But not at the top tier level we're used to seeing. But if that's the case I'd say we're due for a little bit of a down year after 4 straight SEC titles. Maybe still a little early, but the run producers they're counting on aren't doing it against quality teams and the pitching overall is down. SEC teams are seeing Barnhill for the 4th year and as great as she is and has been, she's not dominating the really good teams like she did. And her supporting cast is not yet in the class with Ocasio and Gourley. We were 20-4 in league play the last 2 years I think and right now we're 2-3 with another game at LSU tomorrow night. I've watched a ton of softball over the last 10-12 years and I love this program. But am concerned.

I've been begging for year's now to hire a batting coach like LSU has hired,,, so far to no affect. :(

But maybe before anyone jumps off a ledge, they should take a look at the Gator's schedule page.

24-5, .828, SEC 2-3 --- Home 9-2, Away 4-1, Neu 11-2

Question? -- Which Conf. is the toughest to play softball in?

So UF loses to all of the ranked teams???

UF 6-0 Mich #14
UF 3-2 Az #6
UF 7-2 AzSt #14
UF 2-1 Ore #20
UF 1-0 Wash #5

Anyone expecting any SEC team to go undefeated is going to be disappointed. o_O
And UF always plays a monster OoC schedule to go with their SEC games.

Just like with Baseball, we are playing for a shot at a CWS/WCWS, not an undefeated season.

Gator baseball has dropped to #14 or #16 in the latest rankings, depending on which poll you use, and the crazy thing is there are 7 SEC teams ahead of us. Talk about a powerhouse conference!!

In softball, UF will most likely drop out of the Top 10 after they lost the rubber game to LSU tonight 3-2, dropping them to 24-6 on the year, 2-4 in the SEC. After taking a 2 run lead in the Top of the 1st on a double from Lorenz and a HR from Lindaman, the Gators were shut out the rest of the way by LSU's #3 pitcher, Freshman Shelby Wickersham. Our girls are hitting under .190 against SEC pitching and our team ERA vs. the SEC right now is close to 5.0, both numbers near the bottom of the league. Kelly Barnhill took the loss, giving up 5 hits, 5 walks and striking out 6. The first 2 runs LSU scored were walks followed by hits. The tying run in the bottom of the 6th scored with 2 outs on Hannah Adams' 1st error of her Gator career. The winning run scored on a bunt single and a 1-out double to the fence in the bottom of the 7th. We play #21 Minnesota at home Wednesday, then Mercer at home for 2 games this weekend, followed by a midweek gave vs. Bethune-Cookman before a weekend series at Ole Miss. Except for Lorenz and Lindaman, the whole team is tentative and lacking confidence at the plate. Both LSU & Tennessee were more aggressive at the plate than the Gators and right now we look like a middle of the pack SEC team.

Often, the best pitch a Gator batter see is a 1st pitch strike, right down the middle of the plate.

And what do they do with it? They just stand there starring and take a strike to give the pitcher an immediate advantage in the count. Without a coach to improve their time at the plate, they might not even be in the WCWS this year. --- Pisses me OFF!!! o_O:mad:o_O

Also -- 14 hits in a game, 2 each inning = loss (unless the 2nd hit is a HR every time)
14 hits in a game over 1-2 innings = win
Stop worrying about getting 'A' hit. Instead worry about winning an inning.
String a few winning innings together and you can win the game.

OF Kendrick Calilao is the SEC Freshman of the Week, the SEC announced on Monday.
Calilao, a native of Kissimmee, FL continues to lead the team in producing runs with a team-best 7 RBI's last week in games against FSUcks and MsSt. For the 2nd time this year, he had 6 RBI's in a single game – totaling 6 against No. 6 Florida State in a 20-7 Gator win on Tuesday. Calilao also hit his 2nd Grand Slam of the season.

BA .342, 26 RBI's, 10 BB, 3 HR
Fielding % - .994 - On 163 chances, 155 PO's, 7 Assists, 1 Error.
~ As a true freshman, Calilao is 1st on the team with 26 RBI and is 2nd with a .342 batting average. :D

Gators Chomp No. 16 Lady Volunteers - March 17, 2019

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The #34-ranked UF women's tennis team returned to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex for an SEC matchup against #16 Tennessee on Sunday. The Gators put forth a strong performance in singles play as they collected 4 victories and won the match 4-2. --- Hey Mad-Doggie,,, :p

UF softball DID stay in the Top 10. Long time respect for the program and Tim Walton is keeping us up there, IMO. Softball America Top 10 is now UCLA, Oklahoma, Alabama (31-0), FSU, Tennessee, LSU, Florida, Texas, Washington, Kentucky. We host #14 Minnesota Wednesday night before getting a break from playing ranked teams for awhile.

Just finished watching UF lacrosse on YouTube drop another close match at home, this time to #9 Princeton 13-11. Gators started the season ranked #4 and came into this game ranked #20 with a 3-5 record. Now at 3-6 they will definitely drop out of the national ranking for the first time, I believe, since their first year as a program. very disappointing year.

UF baseball improved to 16-7 tonight with a 13-8 win over Jacksonville. It was an ugly game from a pitching standpoint for both teams. Nolan Crisp started for the Gators and went 4 innings, only giving up 1 hit to pick up his first win of the season to go with 7 saves. The Gators built an 8-0 lead after 4, but then Sully went to the bullpen and it was hard to watch. 3 UF pitchers gave up 8 runs over the 5th, 6th and 7th innings, but fortunately the Gators added 5 more runs to guarantee the win. UF pounded out 14 hits, including 3 each by Young, McConnell and Maldanado. McConnell & Langworthy hit home runs. Big series in Nashville vs. Vandy on Thursday, Friday & Saturday, where it's supposed to be in the 30's for the night games.

Can we send whomever it is that coaches batting for the baseball team,,, over to work with the softball team for a few days?

Mid week pitching has been ugly. Two tough series to open with. But there are not a lot of easy ones in the SEC I guess.

Both softball and baseball teams have tough schedules to start conference play. Baseball team is young so you better get them now. Not sure what to make of softball team, but you can't argue with the success of Walton. Long season so lets see how this plays out.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After shining in his singles' performances against three top-30 teams this past week, sophomore tennis player Oliver Crawford was rewarded with the SEC Athlete of the Week honor, as the league announced Wednesday.

Crawford was tabbed conference honors for the 2nd time this season, 6th of his career.

The Spartanburg, S.C. native was perfect at the No. 1 singles position in Florida's wins over No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 26 Georgia and No. 22 Tennessee. He recorded three wins over ranked opponents, highlighted by a three-set win over No. 2 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest. Crawford handed Chrysochos his first dual loss of the season.

Gator softball beat ranked Minnesota 2-0 behind a 3-hitter from Kelly Barnhill (16-3), who went over 1000 K's for her career with 12 tonight. Kendyl Lindaman hit a 2-run HR in the 1st for the Gators' only runs. And here's some info: In the last 4 games Florida has scored in only 3 innings, the 7th inning of game 1 vs. LSU, the 1st inning of Game 2 vs. LSU and the 1st inning tonight - all on home runs by Lindaman. Another stat they put up tonight. In games vs. Top 25 teams, Lorenz & Lindaman are hitting .408, the rest of the team .153. Since most of the SEC is ranked, that is not good news for the rest of the year. Regardless, we are now 25-6.

Meanwhile, the Men's Tennis team won their 7th match in a row today, improving to 13-2 while taking down #13 Illinois 6-1.

The softball team continues to stand and stare at the perfect pitch, 1st ball strikes . Sometimes 2 in a row. And one Gator took 5 consecutive pitches without ever swinging the bat, 2 balls and 3 called strikes to go down without even a whimper,,,, disgusting!

The 7 combat P's might be of some help for them.

Prior-Proper-Planning-Prevents-Piss-Poor-Performance o_O

UF baseball just got shut out 5-0 at Vanderbilt. Tommy Mace pitched well, leaving the game in the bottom of the 7th down 2-0 with runners on 1st & 2nd. But reliever Jordan Butler proceeded to walk the next batter, hit another to drive in a run, throw a wild pitch to let another run score and then walked the bases loaded before being taken out. Ben Specht came in and hit a batter to put the 5th run of the game across. Meanwhile, we only managed 5 hits for the game and never really threatened. 2 errors didn't help either, as one in the 1st inning contributed to a run scoring even though it went down as an earned run. We're now 1-3 in the SEC and not looking like we can compete with the top of the league this year.

Gator baseball loses a nail-biter to Vandy Friday night 15-2 to drop our record to 16-9, 1-4 in the SEC. We only got 3 hits tonight, although we had plenty of baserunners as Vandy pitchers walked 10!!! But we made 2 errors that accounted for 3 unearned runs, plus our pitching was horrendous, giving up 19 hits and 6 walks. Jack Leftwich threw 97 pitches in 3.2 innings and left after giving up 8 runs (6 earned). Nick Pogue gave up nothing for 1.1, but then Alintoff, K. McMullen & Langworthy gave up 7 more runs between them. O'Sullivan did not start Dalton nor Langworthy and played Young in LF and Reese at 2B, but Reese made an early error that led to 2 unearned runs. I think this team is hitting a crucial stage in deciding whether this is going to be a decent season or a throw away one used to develop the younger guys. The veterans have just not produced as expected and the young guys, for the most part, continue to struggle against SEC pitching.

#4 UF Men's Tennis beat Kentucky in Lexington today 7-0. Women's lacrosse upset #17 Stony Brook in New York 11-10 to improve their record to 4-6. This team is much better than their record as virtually every team they have played so far is ranked and the Gators have lost numerous 1 or 2 goal games. They still could win the AAC conference, which begins play next Saturday.

UF baseball dropped to 16-10, 1-5 in the SEC, losing again to Vandy today 14-4. Vandy outscored us 34-6 over the 3-game series. Tyler Dyson pitched a perfect 1st 3 innings while UF built a 2-0 lead. But he gave up a grand slam in the 4th and a 3-run HR in the 5th, was relived by Jordan Butler, who gave up 2 more, and Hunter Ruth who gave up the final 4 runs. No errors today for Florida, but the pitching was horrible and we just can't consistently hit.

UF softball improved to 26-6 beating Mercer 10-2 in 5 innings. Kelly Barnhill pitched 3 innings, struck out 7 and improved to 17-3. Kendyl Lindaman hit 2 home runs and drove in 6.

Again, baseball team is very young and we don't have the dominating pitching. We will be better by seasons end.

We have a group of veterans who haven't produced much at all. Maldanado has been pretty solid, but Dalton, Langworthy, Reese and Smith have not been good. And you don't get better as the year goes on defense. This defense is horrible. And without pitching you don't get better as the season goes along. Calilao has been our best player, Jacob Young has been the best hitter since inserted in the starting lineup. Both freshmen. Fabian and Acton have been good and they are young. McConnell is a good hitter, but an average shortstop. He's not going to improve as the year goes along. We have a good mixture of youth and experience, but the experience has not produced and the pitching ain't gonna get better. We are who we are, I'm afraid.

You were afraid the basketball team wasn’t going to finish .500 and wouldn’t get in the NIT. Grain of salt, I’m saying. We are young and it is early.

That is true about the basketball team. They ended up a little bit better than I expected, but not much at 20-16. The BB team, also, had a mixture of youth and experience and very much underachieved by anyone's standards. We were picked to finish 5th in the SEC and possibly even challenge for the title, yet finished as a #9 seed in the SEC tournament. Making it to the NCAA's was a minor accomplishment, but nobody seriously thought they were a real threat do much damage.

It's looking like the baseball team will be the same. We were preseason picked to finish 2nd in the East, 3rd overall and 6th nationally. We're not even going to come close to those expectations. And for anyone who seriously follows and watches UF and SEC baseball can see that as clear as day. We've played 26 games with 30 to go (almost halfway) and the back half is much harder than the front half. The regular season is not early, it's almost halfway over.

Most nights we start 4 to 5 freshman. I would be shocked if we weren't better by seasons end offensively and defensively. We started 1-5 in conference play after getting swept by Auburn a couple of years ago, and we did ok that season. Lot's of baseball left so let's see what happens.

The softball team improved to 27-6 today by beating Mercer 9-3. freshman Elizabeth Hightower got the start and gave up 1 hit and no runs over 3 innings. Natalie Lugo pitched the final 4 innings. Coach Walton started a new batting order this weekend and it seems to be working: Jr. N.C. St. transfer Jade Caraway, Hannah Adams, Amanda Lorenz, Kendyl Lindaman, Jordan Roberts, Danielle Romanello, Jamie Hoover, Sophia Reynoso and Cheyenne Lindsay. Gators got 4 HR's today, 2 more by Lindaman, plus shots from Roberts & Romanello. UF hosts Bethune-Cookman Wednesday before getting back into SEC play at Ole Miss.

After winning the regular season SEC title, UF's #4 gymnastics team finished runner-up to #3 LSU in the SEC Gymnastics meet yesterday in New Orleans 197.900 to 197.750. The Gators had a .2 lead over LSU going to the final rotation (UF on the Vault, LSU on the Floor), but maybe some subjective home-cooking to favor the 80% LSU crowd may have won the title for LSU. The Gators seemed to me to be underscored on the Vault, scoring 49.275, while LSU was scored with a 49.600, including a perfect 10, on the Floor. I love watching these great athletes perform, but the subjectivity of the scoring, especially when meets are decided by tenths and hundredths of a point, detract some from the sport. Anyway, on to the NCAA Regionals and Nationals over the next several weeks. Gooooo Gators.

Just to put in perspective the struggles of our baseball team, O'Sullivan's Gators have won through the years with pitching, defense and timely hitting. As of today, we ranked #13 in the SEC in team ERA at 4.64, #14 in opposing batting average at .261, #14 in strikeouts at 198, #14 in hits allowed at 236, #13 in runs allowed at 138, #13 in earned runs allowed at 118, #13 in home runs given up at 26, #13 in fielding percentage at .968, the worst in errors at 31, last in defensive double plays with 9, 3rd worst in stolen bases against at 25, last in throwing out attempted steals with only 2. We are middle of the pack or a little better in offensive stats and that's where UF normally is. But pitching and defense is way out of character for Florida teams and it's why we're only 16-10, 1-5 in the SEC. And to emphasize again, the front part of our schedule was much easier than the back end, where 24 out of our final 30 games are vs. SEC teams, plus 2 more with FSU. Most teams, especially those playing a lot of new guys, get better as the season progresses. But with the schedule getting more difficult and having watched all but a couple of their games, I'm skeptical. Hope they prove me wrong.
