Gator Spring sports beginning soon...

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 2019 SEC regular-season champions are the Florida Gators. No. 3 Florida's 197.225 - 196.35 win tonight at No. 20 Arkansas gives the Gators sole possession of the 2019 SEC regular-season title.

Florida claims its 11th SEC title (1982, '83, '84, '85, '89, '07, '10, '12, '13, 16, '19). This is the third year for the awarding of a regular-season SEC gymnastics title. From 1981-2016, the winner at the SEC Championships was considered the league champion. This is the third SEC title for the Florida program in a seven-day span. The men's teams for swimming & diving and indoor track & field each claimed league titles last Saturday at their SEC Championship meets.

"It really feels great. This team has done an amazing job of coming together as one. This is pretty much a brand-new team from last year as we have six freshman. Really proud of how everyone has handled themselves in competition situations, in practice and supporting each other – Florida coach Jenny Rowland

UF baseball won a baseball doubleheader today vs. Winthrop to improve to 9-4. They won Game 1 28-5. Tommy Mace pitched 5 innings and only gave up 1 run and picked up his 3rd win. The Gators pounded out 23 hits with 5 home runs, including grand slams from freshmen Kendrick Calilao and Jacob Young (6 RBI's each) and JC transfer Santino Miozzi. In Game 2 (shortened to 7 innings), Jack Leftwich ran his record to 3-0 and pitched 6 innings, while Nolan crisp pitched the 7th for his 6th save. Gators win 5-3. They play Florida Gulf Coast at home Tuesday & Wednesday at 6 pm.

Meanwhile our women's basketball team won their final regular season game in Nashville, beating Vanderbilt 78-66. They finish 7-22, 3-13 in the SEC.

And the Men's Tennis team won their 1st SEC match, winning at Arkansas 6-1, improving their overall record to 7-2.

It was BIG ocala. Now, if they can just keep those bats hot and their errors low, it's going to be a pretty good season for them.

To open the day, Florida launched three grand slams in the first game -- becoming just the 9th team to have 3 in a single game according to the NCAA record book -- and scored its most runs since 2003. Overall, UF racked up 23 hits and 27 RBI in the game.

A pair of freshmen, Kendrick Calilao and Jacob Young, each had grand slams and totaled six RBI apiece in game one. Overall, the freshmen class combined for 15 RBI in the game. Junior college transfer Santino Miozzi had the 3rd grand slam of the game. Wil Dalton went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Baseball looks like they might go through some growing pains because of their youth, and it looks like they may not have a Faedo or a Singer to start things off on Friday nights (if they do, it's Tommy Mace), but the freshman class is loaded. Calilao is putting on a year-one show like JJ Schwarz. It's going to be fun to watch Sully school these guys on Gator baseball.

Need some patience with baseball. Those guys are a bunch of Freshman.
I agree that freshmen are going to have ups and down. But so far the freshmen starters in the field (Fabian, Calilao, Acton and now Young), plus if you want to consider McConnell a freshman, too, have outplayed the veterans who start (Langworthy, Dalton, Maldanado, Reese, Smith). The quality of the weekend pitching and the depth of the staff that speaks to midweek starters and mid-inning relief is what I see as the potential issue. Mace, Leftwich & Dyson are good, but are they in the class of recent weekend starters like Singer, Kowar, Shore, Faedo, even Puk and Dunning? And last year where we had Mace & Leftwich as solid midweek starters, nobody has come out so far and proven to be those #4 & 5 guys. That's where the patience and ups and downs of freshmen might come into play. Florida has been all about pitching and defense under O'Sullivan and that's where the real question marks are this year.

Gator baseball improved to 10-4 by beating a very good Florida Gulf Coast team 15-0 tonight. FGCU came into the game 8-3 with a team ERA of 2.60 and averaging over 10 runs per game. Gator pitchers held them to 4 hits and the defense played errorless ball. Nick Blasucci got the start and threw 2 innings, Christian Scott pitched 3 and got the win (2-1), Justin Alintoff tossed 3 and Kirby McMullen picthed the 9th. We had a 10 run 5th innning that put it away, with 13 hits for the game, 3 home runs and 3 RBI's each from McConnell and Maldanado. McConnell, Smith and Langworthy had home runs. The two teams play again tomorrow night at 6 pm.

UF baseball got hammered by FGCU tonight 7-2. They were down 5-0 after 3 innings and we didn't have a base runner until the 7th inning. Yale in for the weekend to face the 10-5 Gators.

UF Women's BB ended their season at 8-23 this afternoon with an 87-56 loss to #5 seed Missouri in the 2nd round of the SEC tournament.
UF Lacrosse improved to 2-3 on the year this afternoon winning at Elon in North Carolina 15-5. They stay in North Carolina to meet High Point Saturday afternoon.

In their SEC opener, #4 UF softball lost a 5 inning run rule game to #7 Tennessee at home tonight by a score of 9-1. It was nice to finally see them on TV (SEC+), but they got mauled by the Vols tonight. Gator bats remained very quiet like they've been the last 2 weeks, being held to 2 singles. Kelly Barnhill gave up 3 home runs and 5 runs in the 4th inning and then Dani Farley gave up another home run and 4 runs in the 5th inning to give UT the 8 run spread. Gator softball has a 92% home winning percentage this decade, so hopefully they will come back strong tomorrow behind Natalie Lugo, plus gets those bats going.

#3 Gator Gymnastics finished their regular season with a big win over Penn State in the O'Dome, beating them 198.025-196.325, a huge margin in this sport. The score for Florida tied for their highest score of the year, which they matched in a loss to Oklahoma earlier in the season. Next up is the SEC Championships in New Orleans in 2 weeks.

UF baseball improved to 11-5 tonight with a 6-5 win over Yale. Tommy Mace pitched 6.1 innings and got the win. Hunter Ruth retired the 5 batters he faced and Nolan Crisp got his 7th save, although he gave up 2 hits and a run in the 9th. Nelson Maldanado had 2 hits, a HR and 3 RBI's, Brady McConnell had a HR and Jacob Young, Jud Fabian, Kendrick Calilao and Brady Smith had 2 hits apiece.

Softball score surprised me....hopefully they will bounce back.
Me too. Barnhill just didn't have it after she got through the lineup the 1st time. Extremely rare for her. But the offense has only scored 6 runs total in our last 6 games and we were fortunate to win 3 of those by scores of 1-0, 2-1 and 1-0. SEC teams have seen Barnhill for 3 years and the experienced players have made adjustments. Can she make adjustments of her own as the season moves forward, and how will Lugo and the freshmen pitchers do against the rugged SEC?

Coming off their first run rule loss at home since 2004, UF softball loses again to Tennessee 3-0, getting 3-hit by UT freshman Ashley Rogers. The bats continued to be anemic, as they had 7 strikeouts and 12 pop-ups/fly outs. The only bright spot for the 21-4 (0-2 SEC) Gators today was freshman pitcher Elizabeth Hightower. She came into the game with nobody out in the 3rd inning, after Natalie Lugo had given up 2 HR's in the 2nd and a leadoff HR in the 3rd, and shut out the Vols the rest of the way. Hightower only allowed 2 singles and struck out 6. The teams play again Sunday at noon, with that game being on the regular SEC Network.

UF women's lacrosse, pre-season #4, won a struggling 16-15 match at High Point (N.C) this afternoon to even their record at 3-3. They next play current #4 Syracuse Wednesday and then #3 North Carolina next Saturday, both at home and both televised on YouTube.

Gator men currently have a 12 point lead over Houston at Indoor national champs. Going to come down to the 4x4. Houston still has some scoring opportunities in the 200 and we are hoping to sneak out a point or two in the triple jump. Gator women have climbed to 4th.

Yep - Got it on my PC with the baseball game on Roku TV. 5 more men's T&F events left, 4 on the women's side.

Gator men have clinched the title. 4 points in the Triple combined with houston only picking up 1 in 200 means that nobody can catch us.

I just started a thread on T & F. They deserve their own. Another title for gator Nation and Grant Holloway is one of the greatest athletes in UF history. And he's only a junior.

UF baseball improves to 12-5 with a 15-1 thumping of Yale. Jack Leftwich improved to 4-0, pitching 5 innings and allowing 1 run. The bullpen of Alintoff, Specht and Armstrong gave up nothing. Fabian & Maldanado had Home runs, the Gators pounded out 18 hits, with Young, Maldanado and Langworthy getting 3 each. Dyson starts the final game of the series at 1 pm Sunday.

UF softball rebounded Sunday to salvage a win in their series with Tennessee, run-ruling the Vols 8-0 in 6 innings and improving their record to 22-4 (1-2 SEC). Kelly Barnhill ran her record to 13-2, striking out 13 and giving up only 2 hits. Kendyl Lindaman got the scoring started with a 2 run HR, then Amanda Lorenz had a 2 run HR and a 3 run HR. Hannah Adams drove in the winning 8th run in the bottom of the 6th with a double to drive in Jamie Hoover.

Gator baseball goes to 13-5 by completing a sweep of Yale Sunday afternoon 4-3. Tyler Dyson had his best control of the year, throwing 75 pitches in 5.1 innings to go 2-0 on the season. Dyson only walked 1 and gave up 6 hits, but 2 of them were home runs to the same guy, accounting for all of Yale's runs. Hunter Ruth was excellent in relief, going the final 3.2 innings, only allowing 1 hit and striking out 5 to record his 1st save. Gator runs were scored on a Jordan Butler 2 run double in the 1st inning and 2 solo home runs in the 2nd and 4th from Jud Fabian.

After trailing FSU 6-0 after the top of the 5th, UF scores 5 runs in the bottom of 5th to trail by 1 then trails by 2 after top of the 6th then scores 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th to lead 13-7.

Bottom of the 8th, Kendrick Calilou hits a grand slam to extend the Gators lead to 18-7.

OFFICIAL: Florida's baseball team has now scored four more points than FSU scored on Florida's football team this year. https://t.co/AyWKZZeQYW

This lineup is smoking! It’s all these freshmen! Unreal where this team could be this year, forget about the next 2 years.

2 early errors from the Gators, shaking pitching got us down 6-0, but the offense exploded with 5 in the 5th, 8 in the 6th and 7 more in the 8th. FSU came into the game leading the nation in defense, but were terrible in the field. And the pitching in the back end of the game was excellent. Nice win.

#7 UF softball ran their record to 23-4 with a 5-0 beating of UCF tonight. Kelly Barnhill improved to 14-2 on the season, throwing her 7th complete game of the season with 8 K's (980 for her career). Romanello had a HR and Caraway, Adams and Voss had RBI's. gators make a huge road trip to #9 LSU (21-5) this weekend, with games Saturday (SEC+ 7 pm), Sunday (SEC Network 5 pm) & Monday (SEC Network 7 pm).

Indianapolis -- UF's men's swimming team had 15 swimmers invited to compete in the 2019 NCAA Championships in Austin, Tx. --- GooooooooGATORS!

Florida's lacrosse team continued an early season pattern of losing close, hard-fought matches by falling to #4 Syracuse 14-13 on Wednesday, after tying the match with 44 seconds left. Gators fall to 3-4 on the year. Meanwhile, the #8 Men's tennis team upset #2 Wake Forest 5-2 on Wednesday to improve to 10-2 on the year. It was their 2nd win against a Top 10 team in 4 days, having beaten #10 Mississippi State 5-2 on Sunday.

UF Men's Tennis beat Georgia in Athens tonight 4-1 to improve to 11-2 on the year, while the UF Women's team lost to Georgia 4-1 to drop to 6-6. I remember not too long ago when our women's tennis team was winning national titles. Tough stretch the last couple of years.

Gator baseball drops the 1st game of a 3 game set losing 6-5. Tommy Mace was good for 5 innings but left in the 6th and the bullpen was not effective. Wil Dalton gave us a 1 run lead with a HR in the 4th. Miss. St. Tied it with a solo HR in the 5th and then scored single runs in the 6th, 7th & 8th, then got 2 in the 9th, carrying a 6-2 lead to the bottom of the 9th. Dalton walked, Fabian got and then Langworthy and Reese got singles to bring the score to 6-4. But Action grounded out, Kirby McMullen drove in the 5th run with a sacrifice fly, but McConnell struck out with a runner on 3rd to end the game.
