Gator Spring sports beginning soon...

All in all,,, a pretty 'sweet' week for the Gator fans... :)

Gainesville, FL -- On Saturday, the Gator Softball got their 7th Shutout of the young season. UF 8 - 0 Syracuse -- Currently in the bottom of the 6th, it's UF 5 - 1 Syracuse.

Gainesville, FL -- UF 9 - 3 scUM -- They pounded 11 hits, five for extra bases, and most importantly, earned their biggest win of the infant season in a way that can build confidence for a young team with 15 newcomers.

The 'chirping' between the teams escalated and before calmness was restored, both teams had emptied onto the field. No one came close to blows, but the tone for the rest of the game was established. If the schools' matchup on the football field in seven months is as intense as Florida's 9-3 win Saturday, watch out.

With adrenaline still coursing through his veins after the game, Dalton said to expect a similar atmosphere on Sunday in the series finale. These teams don't like each other, which is not exactly breaking news, but Friday's loss inspired a new slogan for the Gators. -- 'Burn the Boats.'
(you must go forward and win, because there's no going back) o_O

Gainesville, FL -- UF 64 - 60 Mizzou -- Florida's first 4-game winning streak is coming at an opportune time. UF, now 2 games over .500 in the SEC standings and in 5th place, will go into the next-to-last week of the regular season with a very solid rating in the NET system (it began the day at No. 31) that will seed the NCAA Tournament field. They took care of business, with some drama, and now have to do it again Wednesday when their collective psyche will be tested to even tougher degree on the road @ Vandy. (Gators haven't won in their house since 2014)

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Behind 3 individual titles and 7 additional medal finishes, Florida's men captured the 8th SEC Indoor Championships Team Title in UF history Saturday evening. It is Florida's 4th SEC Indoors title, and 7th overall SEC Team Title with Mike Holloway as men's head coach The Gators were dominant enough to secure the team title before the 4x400 relay, always reserved for last at a championship meet. Florida totaled 103 points and, even without running a 4x4, finished 15 points clear of runner-up Arkansas.

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Florida men's swimming & diving team won its 7th consecutive SEC Championship title and the 40th in program history. Robert Finke had a historic performance in the 1,650 Free to open the men's finals with a bang and help the team win with a total of 1,233 points. Finke broke almost every record possible in one swim. With his personal-best time of 14:23.01, he set the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history, the fastest time in UF history, an SEC Championship record and broke the Georgia pool record. Trey Freeman produced an outstanding swim as well, he finished second with a career-best 14:48.69 and set the seventh-fastest swim in Florida history.

This extends UF's streak for consecutive SEC titles across all sports to 42 years. This is the 242nd SEC Title for Florida and 250th SEC-C in the history of the university.

Need to balance out all the great news with the fact that our women's basketball team has sunk to 6-20 on the season, 2-11 in the SEC. And our lacrosse team dropped to 1-2 on the year after being upset by #16 Loyola of Maryland 15-12 on Saturday. That said, it's great to be a Florida Gator, where there are always quality sports teams to follow and pull for.

All good. Just don't understand why we can't get a competitive women's basketball team? It shouldn't be that hard - yet for the 50+ years I've been a Gator fan (although we've only had women's BB since the mid-70's) we've never won the SEC and usually aren't even close. We've made the NCAA tournament 15 times and only got past the 2nd round twice and only been to the Elite 8 once.

Hey, that sounds a lot like tennis-sea's men's b-ball, so it must be pretty darn good,,,, just ask the Mad-Dog-dollie... :D All the Lady Gator's need to match them is one good season...

UF's baseball team took the rubber game with Miami 4-1 behind the stellar pitching of Jack Leftwich, Jordan Butler and Nolan Crisp. Crisp, the 17-year old freshman, notched his 4th save of the year. The bats are starting to come around and freshman 1st-baseman Kendrick Calilao had 3 hits today including his 1st HR as a Gator. Cory Acton and Blake Reese had 2 hits each. UF is now 30-8 vs. UM in the last 38 games. Sully owns those guys!!.
Gators next play at Jacksonville Tuesday at 6 pm, then host UCF Wednesday at 6 pm. It looks like weekend pitching is going to be solid again, with Dyson the only question as a starter. But Butler and Crisp out of the bullpen look very good. The main pitching issue I see is the midweek starters. With the always tough schedule we play, midweek games are challenging and pitching there needs to be stellar. But taking 2/3 from Miami after losing Game 1 showed a lot of heart and character.

That's 7 in a row over the scUM thugs of Mi-Am-I... And it's especially 'sweet' after them running their mouths. (thanks Will for putting them in their place) o_O

Much like B-Ball, the season W/L record is not the most important thing. With baseball the goal is getting to the CWS. After that, anything can happen and anyone can win it all...

I think you must mean 7 series wins in a row, not games.

And I think that you must be correct.
I didn't say games or series because I thought that it would be obvious...
We're both gettin' up there in years and I know I need correction and clarification from time to time. More often now than when I was younger. :)

Well, Gator baseball improved their team batting average from .195 after Friday night to .228 after today's game. Individual batting averages are:
Kendrick Calilao .435, Brady McConnell .333, Blake Reese .278, Jud Fabian .231, Nelson Maldanado .207, Cory Action .192, Wil Dalton .179, Austin Langworthy .139, Brady Smith .059. Santino Miozzi only has 7 AB's, but has 3 hits and Roberto Pena has 6 AB's with 1 hit. Fielding wise we have 8 errors in 8 games with 6 DP's and a .973 fielding percentage. And from the mound our team ERA is 3.17, which for college baseball is excellent. Leftwich is at 1.64, Mace at 3.21, Dyson at 3.68, Butler at 2.45. 71 total innings pitched with 65 hits, 30 walks and 63 K's and a .244 BA against. Considering all the new guys and lost production at the plate and on the mound, 5-3 is not a bad start.

Gator softball ran their record to 18-0 by beating Syracuse 8-2 and FAMU 7-1 this afternoon. Kelly Barnhill got the win in Game 1, improving her record to 9-0, including 76 K's and only 9 walks. Danni Farley improved to 2-0 on the year by pitching 6.2 innings in Game 2. Lorenz had 2 hits, including a leadoff HR in Game 1, while Lindaman had 3 RBI's and Roberts had 2 RBI's. In Game 2, Roberts had a 3-run HR, Lorenz, Hoover and Adams had 2 hits each, including a HR from Hoover. Next game is Wednesday night at 9 pm at #2 UCLA. Too bad it's not being televised anywhere that I can find.

Damn the SEC Network for not showing the baseball & softball games, even a delayed broadcast would be great...

No interest :D:eek:

But you're still a dust-bowl choke-la-homo troll here that felt the need to post your usual quality post about what you're 'not interested' in...

Calilao Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

A native of Kissimmee, OF Kendrick Calilao 6-1 205 Fr led the Gators to a big series win over in-state rival Miami last weekend with a .583 average, five extra-base hits and six RBI. He currently has a four-game hitting streak in which he's 8-for-13 (.615) with a home run, 2 doubles, a triple and 6 RBI.

I was at the game on Friday and Saturday and unfortunately, I had the misery of being around the Canes fans. Not only were the Canes fans the worst, the players acted like they had won the CWS everytime they made a play like the 3 run Homer on Saturday and the solo HR on Sunday. I thought for sure our 1st baseman was history after shoving the douche Miami base runner on Saturday.

The scUM thugs of Mi-Am-I... o_O

It's why beating them at anything is so much fun for me as a long time Gator fan.... :D

NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, junior all-around phenom Grant Holloway garnered U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the organization Tuesday.

Holloway was the brightest star of the SEC Indoor Championships, as he set the meet's individual scoring record with 28 points and helped the Gators capture the team title. Prior to last weekend, no man had scored more than 22.5 points at SEC Indoors.

UF baseball won at Jacksonville tonight 5-4 in 10 innings. McConnell, Langworthy and Acton had 2 hits each, Dalton & Coach O got ejected early in the game and Jud Fabian got the game winning RBI with a double in the top of the 10th. Nolan Crisp picked up his 5th save as the gators improved to 6-3 on the year. They're scheduled to play UCF at home Wed. night, but rain is in the forecast so we'll see.

Gators score 5 runs on 1 hit in the bottom of the 5th to take an 8-7 lead on UCF. Kirby McMullen got his 1st HR as a Gator with a pinch hit grand slam on a 2-out, 3-2 pitch. Exciting stuff.

Here's a shocker folks. Top of the 3rd in Fullerton, CA - UCLA 4, UF softball 0. Kelly Barnhill has given up 6 hits and 4 runs in 2 innings. UCLA knocked us out of the WCWS last year and they have a powerful hitting lineup. Maybe we can come back, but it shocks the team (and fans) when opponents hit our ace.

UCF 12, UF 9 in baseball. We used 6 pitchers and none were effective. We made 4 errors and had a passed ball on a 3rd strike, allowing a run to score in the top of the 9th. After that a runner on 3rd stole home and the pitcher (Jordan Butler) was so surprised he threw wild to home, allowing a runner on 2nd to come all the way home. We scored a run in the bottom of the 9th on a HBP with bases loaded, but left them loaded as the game ended. UCF can flat out hit and they played a cleaner game in the field. UCF has beaten Florida 4 straight times.

Gator softball loses to UCLA 7-1. Gators had 8 hits, but left 9 runners on base with 13 strikeouts. UCLA got 12 hits. Barnhill only pitched 2 innings and gave up 4 runs. Danni Farley threw 2.1 innings and gave up a 3 run HR. Katie Chronister pitched the last 1.2 innings and gave up nothing. UF plays New mexico and Oregon tomorrow.

UF softball beat New Mexico 1-0 in 8 innings on a walkoff double by Jade Carraway, the transfer from NC St. Natalie Lugo pitched the first 7 innings, striking out 13. Kelly Barnhill got the win after notching 3 K's in the top of the 8th. Gators play Oregon later today.

UF softball just knocked off #20 Oregon 2-1. Kelly Barnhill threw a complete game 3 hitter with 9 K's, while Kendyl Lindaman & Jamie Hoover had RBI singles. Gators get a rematch with #2 UCLA Friday at 12:30 (9:30 am Pacific time), then play #5 Washington at 8 pm EST.

UF softball hitting woes continue as we get blanked this afternoon 4-0 by UCLA, on a Rachel Garcia 2 hitter. Natalie Lugo took her 1st loss of the year, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings. Katie Chronister pitched a perfect final 3 innings, as the Gators dropped to 20-2 on the year. They play #5 Washington at 9 pm EST tonight. Gators need to get the bats going, as in their 1st 4 games in this West Coast swing, they have scored a total of 4 runs on 21 hits (not hitting with runners on base) and 25 strikeouts.

It's a long season, and there are about a 1/2 dozen teams that look to be in the WCWS. Once there, any one of them can go home with the Gold... Until then, I'll just enjoy watching them play the game...

How many have you watched? The only game that's been televised in any way shape or form was the exhibition against Japan and the UNF game. The tournament they're in this weekend in Fullerton, CA can only been seen if you join FloSports and do a pay per view. I'm not doing that, but have listened to every game on the computer/radio.

Strike 3,,,, you've obviously missed the point,,, yet again. ;)
Just asking for clarification on what you said. You said you'll enjoy watching them play the game. They've played 22 games and I was wondering how many of those you've watched? Simple question. On top of that, I didn't miss the point. You tend to look big picture and almost always talk about only the positives as you see them. I watch and comment game to game and tend to point out positives & negatives from my perception as well as areas where they need to improve. We have different approaches to the way we comment. You seem to like to get into personal attacks. I don't. If that's your thing, fine. There are others who like to do the personal thing as well. I won't. I'll just continue making game to game posts and comments on how I perceive things. I praise when I see something worthy of it. I criticize when I see something worthy of it. People can ignore, like, dislike, disagree, agree, add to what I've said, whatever. I'll continue to do what I do and I'm sure you'll do the same. Different strokes for different folks.

UF baseball pounds Winthrop 16-4 in the opening game of their weekend series. Tyler Dyson got his 1st win of the season, throwing 5 innings and giving up 3 runs (1 earned), Gators had 17 hits, including home runs by Ocala's Jud Fabian and Williston's Austin Langworthy. Bullpen pitching was solid tonight. Defense made 3 more errors and Mick Hubert commented a couple of times how this may be the weakest defensive team of the Sully era. Lots of pieces to the puzzle this year and it will be fun to watch them come together as the season progresses.

UF gymnasts won the SEC regular season title (6-1) by winning at Arkansas 197.225 - 196.350. Alicia Boren won the all-around with a score of 39.625. Gators finish up the regular season with a home meet vs. Penn State next Friday night. For anyone who doesn't watch Gator gymnastics, I highly recommend it. Tremendous athletes, meets last normally under 2 hours and these young ladies really enjoy what they do. Good stuff.

#3 Gator softball won an 8 inning 1-0 pitching duel over #5 Washington in Fullerton, CA tonight. Kelly Barnhill pitched a complete game 1 hitter with 10 K's. Washington's pitcher Taran Alvelo, struck out 15 Gators and only gave up 4 hits. The lone run scored in the top of the 8th on a based-loaded, pinch hit walk drawn by freshman Brittany Allen. In the bottom of the 8th Washington had runners on 1st & 3rd with no outs and Barnhill recorded 3 straight strikeouts to end the game. Florida is now 21-2 and finishes their weekend tomorrow with 1 pm EST game vs. Cal-State Northridge, the start their SEC schedule next weekend hosting Tennessee.

Saturday's softball game cancelled due to weather.
UF lacrosee, ranked #6 when the season began and #13 this week, were outscored 5-0 in the last 5 minutes of the game and lost to Navy today 14-13, dropping their record to 1-3. Not a good start to the season for a team that, under Amanda O'Leary, has played at a surprisingly high level from the first year she started the program. Let's hope they get things turned around.
