Official Next University of Florida Head Coach Thread

Things for the new Gator HC to do in 2018:[....] And on the defense/ST's, wrap up tackling has been an ongoing problem for at least the last 2 seasons.
Being in the correct place or gap doesn't help much, if you can't make the tackle.
Yes, please!

Failure of Gator players to wrap up--or even seem to try to wrap up for tackling--has accounted, if not for the majority of my yelling at a t.v. broadcast of a Gator game, at least easily the top reason for my yelling.

The basis being that it's among fundamental skills of defensive football, so why in hey-ell can't touted defensive coördinator Randy Shannon fix it? Especially having the benefit of an intervening 2016/2017 off-season to allow him the time to fix that problem? Or is the Gator defense excessively burdened with the uncoachable players that Spurrier reportedly mentioned last night (i.e., speaking at the Orlando Touchdown Club Nov. 13)?

It's BASICS, and make that 3,,, as SOS also seems to agree with me and Comp...

While I like OLB Joseph, he seems to like just taking a hard hit shot at the ball carrier, instead of insuring that he gets a 'wrap-up' tackle on him. Sadly, he's not alone in that 'missed tackle' rookie attitude.

And I also agree with Comp about WHY has Shannon not correct it??? o_O

Sooo, I can safely assume that you missed my dual rebuttals to ill-advised sarcasm by ‘instaGATOR’ (#10: "Nov 7, 2017 at 3:59 PM" EST) in "Re: Scott Frost"?

• His failure to understand why Spurrier did not sign with Tennessee after starring in 3 sports at Science Hill High (N.E. Tennessee) (#80: "Nov 11, 2017 at 12:02 PM", "Nov 12, 2017 at 5:10 PM"): <https://florida.forums.rivals.com/threads/scott-frost.62267/page-2#post-1147889>.

Meanwhile, contrary to what you would expect, I've been awarding many more ‘likes’ to postings by ‘DannyGator’ than to any other ITG member. Even after the ITG ‘likes’ processing confronts me with "Are you sure you want to like this posting?" (well, no, but I groan "arrrgh!", then click "Like").

But in the interest of full disclosure, I confess that conspiracy theorists are telling the truth when they insist that I and ‘DannyGator’ have never been seen in the same place at the same time.

From reddit

GC update: essentially both sides have come to an agreement, but Kelly wants control over "football operations," which some UAA members aren't okay with. Stricklin is good with it, though.

Kelly & his potential assistants have been vetted, and Stricklin believes the deal will get done.

Frost doesn't have as much interest in Florida as previously thought. Additionally, he may want to go back to the west coast (UCLA/Arizona State) than Nebraska.

I would never believe you and Danny are the same person. For one thing, the angry drunk posting would be a give away, and second, he wouldn't have the patience to maintain your persona and posting style.

Hardee means well and we agree on a lot but I'm always shaking my head at some of his posts LMAO.

I don’t see anything wrong it!!! The current scheme isn’t working whatsoever because it’s to easy to defend…You will start seeing more and more going away from the pistol spread because more and more coaches are finding away to defend very easily…

You have to have the best WRs and RBs to even think of running the current scheme and many schools who don’t have them still tries to run it and they want to know why they are 2-8!!!! It’s actually easy to defend mainly against Florida because Florida’s QB doesn’t have the legs and they don’t know w how to read defenses… Plus your OLine must know how to play a zone and trust me these players don’t know how…

Not even a peep of Gator news yet on sports-radio from Orlando, which is yakking about what countries failed to make the World Cup of socialist effin' soccer![×]
Since then, what ought to be done about the UCLA basketball players on an overseas goodwill tour[/b] (or something like one), jailed after being caught shoplifting in China (but, listeners are assured, they're actually good young men), has risen above news on the opening of basketball season, to dominate sports talk, leaving practically no room for any talk about UF football coaches.

So now it's Friday, and near the end of Colin Cowherd's show on FM, he cited the several-days old quote Spurrier to the effect that the current UF choice for replacement head-football coach is "still coaching" (or somesuch). Following that quote, he insisted that the current choice is Dan Mullen. Then he conceded that he did not know whether Jeremy Foley is still athletic director at Florida!

Whoa! What an excellent job of disqualifying himself and his sources on the UF coaching search! Scott Stricklin was hired into UF more than a year ago: Nov. 1, 2016!

Am I the only Gator fan who is unaware of serious personal biases that might be held by Cowherd regarding UF, because I had forgotten that "Cowherd was roommates with Coach Jim McElwain [...] at Eastern Washington"[†]?

To bring this reply back around to relevance to my cited earlier posting, Cowherd also uses the adjective "official" cluelessly; it's a pet peeve for which Mike Bianchi is chief sports irritant [‡].

-------
Note ×: Posting to which I'm technically replying is quoted from a different--needlessly redundant (ahem!)--thread: <https://florida.forums.rivals.com/threads/its-happening.62561/#post-1152593>:

Note †: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Cowherd>, whose individual details, considering its source, maybe shouldn't be trusted by readers on ITG.

Note ‡: [...] being "official" requires an actual officially-responsible-person, e.g., Athletic Director Stricklin, to have declared it so (unlike, e.g., [... the persistent misunderstanding of that straightforward word by] that alleged UF-alum writer Mike Bianchi, who's pandering to UCF nowadays).

Any one listen to Finebaum tonight? I saw someone on twitter saw Finebaum says Chip is coming here.

Info from a poster on TOS

I come to you guys with news reiterating my original post on the 10th (above). Quickest, best update I can give without giving details is it's happening, the process is taking place. Still. Which is a GOOD THING, both sides are at work to get this thing done. Old guys within the Gator Nation (and some of the old guard) don't like some of the things being asked for, but like Finebaum said today "the old guard is the old guard for a reason, you have to let the new guard do what they were brought in to do." Scottie Too Hottie is going to get his guy in there.

Tonight looks unlikely to say the least, it's at the part of the process where things will prob start leaking soon as we're getting to the finish line. My more current end of the week timeline looks like a no go, but for good reason. As I said yesterday NO NEWS is GOOD NEWS. What this guy wants to do at UF is well worth the wait.

Jonathan Vilma: "Chip Kelly to Florida." on the Ryen[sic] Russillo Show. 2:56 PM - Nov 17, 2017
• 33 Replies

But there's not a single worthwhile URL to be found anywhere. In particular, where is the URL for the headlined claim attributed to Jonathan Vilma? So I conclude that the ITG posting by ‘OandBFrosty’ is a "complete waste of time", whose "conversation" & "Replies" involve twits of unknown reliability.

And I'd really like to think that the vast majority of ITG readers have enough good sense not to give a flying f*rnic@tion about "Retweets" of what's already a "complete waste of time" on twitter.

OandBFrosty’: You need to do a hey-ell of a lot better than shovelling in your useless twitter-derived posting to convince serious ITG members that you're not merely a troll who got an earlier start than the more obvious other trolls.

What was your rationale for deleting my highly restrained (one might even call it "moderate") response [††] (now restored by me immediately below), while leaving untouched the original crude reply by often-rude newbie ‘OandBFrosty’[×]? My customary "right of reply", which has been established for at least 3 decades in news-groups & message-boards, is recognized & accepted on ITG, isn't it?

Charming. As of my posting [†] to which you're so congenially replying, you had submitted a total of 19 messages since joining ITG less than 2 weeks ago: "Nov 6, 2017".

If you genuinely wanted to become a respected member of the ITG community, and possessed any sense, you'd be on your best behavior on this message board. But you're not, which also conforms to the behavior of a troll.

Good luck thus weekend gents. Luckily the UCF game is Friday, so I can for the first time this season, watch a full UF game on TV

Begin the suicide watch for Michi-troll and the rest of the circle of jerks.

And schedule the padded rooms for some of the hopeful others.

While I break out the 'Gentleman Jack' for a toast to UF's good fortune!

Right after I get some 'Official' confirmation on it...

Yep. UCLA fans and reporters are jumping to conclusions without facts, just like our side has been doing for over a week. ESPN is now reporting that Kelly will decide between the 2 schools within a few days. Let's all just take a deep breath and see what happens. The sun will still be orange and the sky will still be blue no matter what happens.

I copied this off the Swamp Gas Forum:

8:33 p.m.: In speaking with industry experts, including two high-powered agents notintimately involved in this particular search but aware of the negotiations, OnlyGators.com has been told that it was believed that Chip Kelly was on his way to Florida as recent as early Wednesday. And while some are starting to think otherwise after UCLA’s pitch and insertion into the process, most still hold that belief. Kelly’s greatest hesitation at this time is believed to be the pressure that comes along with coaching and recruiting in the SEC compared to that of the Pac-12, a conference he has already dominated and that is of great familiarity to him. More than anything else, it is believed that Kelly is “just playing the game” at this time, which lends to the below report that he is looking to extract more from the Gators, whether that is decision-making power, money, etc.

8:25 p.m.: CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported late Wednesday that Chip Kelly is expected to make his decision on Sunday. He further disputed reports that Kelly had already chosen UCLA and noted that Kelly had previously entered into a “non-binding agreement” with Florida. Furthermore, Dodd reported that “Florida and Kelly are believed to be going back and forth” on retaining current assistants with defensive coordinator Randy Shannon being one of those mentioned.

Chomp: It would truly be shocking if the Gators allowed assistants — particularly Shannon — to stand in the way of hiring Kelly, a coach who went 46-7 in his lone run as a head coach on the collegiate level. Kelly making a decision on Sunday appears to be a no-brainer at this point, though the non-binding agreement adds another level of intrigue to a situation that has been reported in a variety of ways at this point.

It makes no sense and just cannot be accurate that UF is holding the line on keeping coaches. You’re talking about a guy who analyzes his player’s urine daily and monitors their REM sleep. There’s no way in the world he’s going to let someone else pick his defensive coordinator for Chissake. And Strickland is smart enough to know that.

Jiminy Crickets, if we are going to "hold the line on keeping coaches", can't it at least be GOOD ONES? Is that asking too much? "I'm sorry Coach Kelly, but if you want to hire a top notch defensive coordinator, we can't have that. We already have a mediocre one in place".

Let's hope so. But AD's all over show themselves to he dumbasses every year. Why you'd try to force a new coach to retain anybody from a team that is likely about to be 4-7 is beyond me. You fired the last staff for a reason.

That can’t be what’s happening. It’s impossible. When have you ever heard of a new coach hired anywhere where they didn’t get to pick their assistants? Particularly a coach of Kelly’s stature. If that is happening, and there is no way in the world that it is, then it is complete amateur hour and we deserve to continue to suck.

If this were really true, we should be going after a second or more likely third tier coach who is "just happy to be here" and is willing to make accommodations in order to get the job.

Where do you think Frost is going to end up? UCF got passed up by a 3 loss team now in Miss St. There is no future for him at UCF.
No clue. The AD did just re-up for 5 years, so who the heck knows. If Scott leaves, he has raised the bar and ability for UCF to attract a good to very good Coach i hope.

If I were wagering, I would bet he leaves in 1-2 years. He will only be more valuable, but again, only to people know.Scott and his wife.
