Official Next University of Florida Head Coach Thread

I guess you haven’t seen his offense lately. Catch a replay of MSU smashing Texas A&M last night. It’s fun to watch. And Urban is slinging it all over the field at OSU now too.

Times change. Hard to blame them for playing that style with the talent they had at Florida.

Plus as much as like Corral if there ever was a year to get a top dual-threat guy, this is the year to do it. There are like 3 5-star dual threat guys in the south this year. And that's not even including other solid 4-star types committed elsewhere.

Unless we go Air Raid.....I have to admit Corral would kill it in an offense like Oklahoma circa 2008.

That’s why I’m so pissed about losing Grier. No matter who’s fault that was. I just think about what could have been. That kid can spin it. 15,000 yards and 195 TDs in HS. With the right offensive coaches and Florida talent around him, it could have been amazing.

Like you say he would have never had a great year here with Nuss and company. Decent play unlike what we have now but they would have limited him a lot.

At Florida we expect national titles from all our programs. At uga you celebrate wins over vandy.
Georgia has won 40 national titles in 10 different sports, including 2 NCAA football championships, along with 14 SEC football championships. Florida has won 39 national titles in 14 sports, including 3 national championships in football, to go along with 8 SEC football championships. And we still hold the series edge in football, 51-43, after the demolition exercise we all witnessed yesterday. So I'd hold my hubris in check a little if I were you. You saw what good all the talk did before the game this week. Winners back it up on the field.

Grier wouldn't have been that good here because of poor coaching/play calling and bad system.

At this point just about all the players deserve a clean slate as far as I'm concerned

There’s no such thing as an NCAA football championship for FBS/ Div 1A.

Technically, yes. I guess you'd call it the mythical consensus national championship. You know the drill here. No reason to play semantics (unless you're Auburn, and want to claim the Poulan Weedeater/Peapicker Poll title from 1946).

It's time again to let that coaching carousel spin...

I'd be a surprised if 'the fix' is not in on Dan Mullen / Scott Stricklin....
(I'm still wondering where that stolen credit card came from...) ;)
From a strictly HC'ing job point of view, I'd be fine with Dan as the new HC.

UCF HC - Scott Frost -- Neb Alum, they will likely also be looking for a new coach.
USF HC - Charlie Strong -- Not a bad guy or HC imo, but pretty unlikely.
IowaSt HC - Matt Campbell -- Good resume' IF they want to go new/young.
Memphis HC - Mike Norvell -- Short but good resume' so taking a chance maybe.

Stretches:
PSU OC - Joe Moorhead -- Not a HC, so a big chance to take.
Clemson DC - Brent Venables -- Highly unlikely, unless they can get SOS as OC.

Big stretches:
UF Ambassador - Steve Spurrier - Wish, but very unlikely imo.
OK HC Retired - Bob Stoops - Less of a chance than SOS.
LSU Fired HC - Les Miles - I just can't see it, but who knows?
VaTech HC - Justin Fuente -- 2016 ACC CoY - Too soon to change.
WashSt HC - Mike Leach -- Baggage galore.
ESPN Analyst - John Gruden -- Doubtful, maybe tennis-sea, but unlikely there too.
Broadcaster - Cow Chip Kelly -- Please gawd, Just Say NO...

My choices would be:
Spurrier (3-4 years)
Mullen (8-10 years)
Frost (career)
Campbell (career, but a 9.4 Mil buyout)
After that, it's a coin toss for me...

At this point, I'm having a bit of a problem caring who they hire...

Lord.

They won the game, big, and yet are still so insecure they are sniffing around here for attaboys.

Son, modern history, and not just real recent...

Florida owns Georgia. Massive football domination, three national titles, long winning streaks, contenders year in and year out. Even the disappointing Mac era saw Gators win 2/3 over the necks.

Two NCAA basketball titles and your advantage reaches back to segregation days, although your girls are much sluttier, so congratulations.

Dawgs have 20 womens team titles and 9 mens ncaa team titles. You have 4 mens and 8 womens titles not recognized by ncaa. We have won 9 mens titles since your last mens title. How many sec all sports titles does florida have? Directors cup standings? Your athletic program is miss st with a pulse. So again, come back when your relevant again and leave your bs at home with your cousin

Major lizard jimmies rustled ITT.........

Fired a coach who won the last 2 SEC East Championships for 1 bad season. Coaches out there will be kicking in the doors at UF wanting a job with that type of security.

All of CFB laughs at UF tonight.

Exactly. East titles are for perpetual underachieving programs like georgia. At florida we expect to compete for national titles.

We fired a coach that beat you the last two of three.

Why? Because we expect our coaches to win SEC-C games, not just show up.

If you thought we deserved to win the East either of the last two years, you're in for a hell of a wake up when Bama comes calling.

This post reeks of fear. "Why did you fire Mac!?" We get it though, you'll be back to your regularly scheduled beatings soon enough.

Why would Frost leave with every player coming back more on the way and no pressure
And apparently no punctuation by the UCF fan, but I digress.

"no pressure"? Really!?

Commentary: Hurricane Irma has UCF football facing financial "Armageddon"
Mike Bianchi Orlando Sentinel
Running off at the typewriter ...
SEPTEMBER 15, 2017, 10:25 AM

If UCF keeps having to cancel home football games, we may have to consider including the Knights in the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund. [UCF] Athletics director Danny White told me [....] from his seat as somebody who is expected to raise enough money to sufficiently fund an expansive 16-team athletic program — this is akin to financial Armageddon. “This is worst-case scenario,” White said. [....] We were expecting some significant single-game revenue surges for both Memphis and Georgia Tech and now we’re scrambling. This is a lot of lost revenue for us.” [....] Still, the Knights — even if they can add an opponent on Oct. 28 — are only playing 6 games at Spectrum Stadium instead of 7 and are losing their biggest home game of the year against Georgia Tech. Translation: Hurricane Irma has literally blown UCF’s athletic budget.
Readers might reasonably wonder what unexpected budget concessions A.D. White insisted on from Frost's football program as being his sport's fair share of sudden athletic budget cuts?

The interloping UCF fans on ITG seem to be unaware that UCF has the on-campus athletic facilities that it shows off to potential recruits nowadays, primarily as the result of the high-level conspiracy partnership between the, um, awkwardly retired Coach George O'Leary and UCF President John Hitt. Hitt recently announced his retirement effective mid summer (June 30?) 2018. It was Hitt, who ran UCF with the attitude of a big-bucks booster, who made ambitious athletic dreams happen. Will UCF be an enjoyable place for Frost to coach a major sports program, and still get nonathletic administration support for a budget suitable for an ambitious program, after Hitt has retired? Hmmm?

Some think Norvell could be risky because he took over with a real good QB already there even though he wasn't starting yet and a team that was already clicking on offense. Not my opinion just what a few have said.

Norvell did not take over with a real good QB.

Paxton Lynch already declared for the NFL. Clay Horgerson (Dana's nephew) transferred when Fuente left

Norvell recruited Riley Ferguson and David Moore.

The only QB's on the roster were Jason Stewart and Brady Davis. Stewart was a career backup and Davis has yet to see the field.

UF may have to throw out maybe $15 mil a year for 5 yrs with an additional $20 mil buy out to get anyone to take over the current dumpster fire in Gainesville. This should be entertaining. Out before the first one of you predict a NC in 2018 once the new guy is named.
You're the typical backwards UGA fan...here talking your trasg
Franklin is from PA. He's home. It's his dream job, and he has a top 5 team. Why, again, would he come to Florida?
Besides being a huge douche bag, why are you here? (You don't need to answer, it's rhetorical)

How come everytime we search for a new cisch, we never give Leach a ring? He is like Spurrier, passes the ball around the yard, gives great quotes, and is cool to have a beer with.

He just literally called his former employer crooks openly in the media, like this week..

Yes. There is more financial commitment than when O'Leary was coach, retreating is not happening bc Hitt is retiring

Where is this "Norvell has recruited well coming from?" Looking at his commitments Memphis doesn't have any top ranked recruits which is probably standard for them. Nonetheless, there is nothing to indicate his recruiting has taken off. UCF (Frost) crushed Memphis earlier and will do so again when they meet in AAC championship game.

Norvell is also only 36, which can be good or bad but with his experience already I feel pretty good about it.

Though he’s also taking advantage of the work Fuente did, so that’s concerning.

Matt Campbell just checks off too many boxes I don’t care for.

Agreed - I think Fuentes built a good foundation...lets see how well he does before we go crowning him...
i think Scott Frost if my pick

Norvell and Ryan Silverfield are big time recruiters but they are recruiting at Memphis so that has to be taken into consideration. We tried to get Silverfield on staff last year.

You can't just pull up the rivals or 247 commitment page and say "his recruiting looks subpar"

You have to know the Memphis situation deeper. You have to know what facilities exist...or don't exist in that matter.

It's pretty much a commuter school. They are finally getting a strong booster commitment. For years that was lackluster. They have finally been approved for an IPF. Their practice facilities are on the south Campus that isn't even connected to the main campus. Their home stadium (and basketball court for that matter) is pretty decent but not even on campus. Considering this he has still got some playmakers on the team.

You also have to factor in that the school is around 60 miles away from Ole Miss. Also consider that many UT, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and even a few LSU, Bama, and Auburn boosters and alumni occupy the city. Behind Atlanta it probably has the most SEC fans, boosters, and alumni living in the county and suburbs. Kids in the area just didn't grow up on Memphis football. Now slowly some are. I mean one of the HUGE Alabama boosters Logan Young (the guy who got Bama in trouble with Albert Means in the 90's/00's) occupied the city. One of their big basketball and Olympic sport boosters Mike Rose, the head man in charge of First Tennessee Bank gave no shiz about Memphis football and was a HUGE UT football donor. Even FedEx Founder/CEO was a decent donor to Memphis but not like he is now..I mean for crying out loud, his own son Cannon Smith originally signed with Miami, transferred to Ole Miss, and finally ended up at Memphis basically by default. Not until Cannon played for Memphis was Fred highly involved in donating to Memphis. Even the movie The Blind Side shows that local influential citizens the Tuoy's were Ole Miss alumni/donors.

He actually done a great job considering the circumstances of attracting local talent. He's made a small pipeline to South Panola (who has won numerous state championships, and a couple of mythical national championship) with Darrell Henderson and O'Bryan Goodson. In the past this was an Ole Miss school first, Mississippi State snagged a few, and none ever went to Memphis. Norvell is starting to make a name in the Nashville area as well as talented areas of Arkansas.

It's beyond stupid to judge his recruiting on how he matched up against Frost. Everyone knows Florida prep talent is light years ahead of Tennessee prep talent.

Look beyond the 247 and rivals pages and look at the history. He recruited their highest class ever and even beat out a few SEC schools for recruits.

He has an eye for talent. He saw something special in JUCO transfer Riley Ferguson. He found Tony Pollard who is a record setting returner and possibly the APY record setter before his career is over. Just wait until you see his upcoming QB in action. David Moore.

But dude has playmakers on the roster that he himself recruited.

Sure Fuente and Frost are probably better candidates but Norvell is right up there with them.

If we are comparing due to H2H matchups of Frost v Norvell...then Norvell is better than Herman.
