Gator Spring sports beginning soon...

Baseball will be fine. Sully has taken us to Omaha in 6 of 11 seasons I believe. He recruits very well. Can't go to Omaha every season....
Agree. But going from Top 5 pre-season ranking to not even making the NCAA tournament and finishing in the bottom 1/3 of the SEC is really disappointing.

Sully had about as much of a right to have a down year as any coach anywhere. But I have to say next year doesn’t look that great either. You expect the young guys to get better. But there’s really nobody on the staff that you feel that confident about next year. Last year, Mace, Leftwich, Dyson and Butler were those guys. We hit pretty good this year but we’re losing Maldonado and I believe McConnell is draft eligible (is that right?), so there’s your two best hitters. Plus Dalton will be gone.

Calilou is about as good a young hitter as I’ve seen, and Acton and Fabian had their moments. Brady Smith is a keeper. You figure the team will get a lot better defensively.

Maldanado & Blake Reese are seniors, so they'll be gone for sure. McConnell, Langworthy, Dyson & Dalton are draft eligible. I'm thinking Langworthy will be back as the Captain. Will be interesting to see what the other 3 do. McConnell needs to get better defensively, Dyson needs another year of pshycotherapy and Dalton needs to become a more consistent hitter. I'm thinking all will be back, but who knows? Calilao's batting average dropped almost .100 once we got into SEC play, but no doubt he's a good one with potential to be great. We're bringing in 2-3 more catchers next year and need to get better behind the plate, but Smith will be on the field somewhere. Acton & Fabian will only get better. But it's going to come down to arms again. As we learned this year, pitching is everything.

UF's #3 Men's Tennis team blitzed #8 Baylor 4-0 tonight to advance to the Final 4 for the NCAA championship. They won the doubles point and then singles matches at #6, #2 & #5 all in straight sets to end the match fairly quickly. #1 Ohio State has been knocked out by North Carolina and the Gators move on to meet #2 Texas Saturday at noon for the right to play for the national title against either #9 North Carolina or #4 Wake Forest.

UF softball opened the NCAA tournament with a 3-0 win over the Boston Terriers, champs of the Patriot League, beating the 2-time conference pitcher of the year. The Gators only got 4 hits on the game, but they all came in the bottom of the 5th, which was started off with a pinch hit single from Cheyenne Lindsay. Kendyl Lindaman got a 2-out, RBI double after Lorenz was walked. Hannah Adams followed with a 2-run single. Kelly Barnhill picked up her 31st win of the year, throwing a 4-hitter. The Gators will play Boise State, who upset Stanford 9-1, Saturday at 2 PM.

I believe Boise has beaten some quality teams this year

They're 35-14, but only 12-12 (5th place) in the Mountain West Conference. They've beaten Ole Miss, Long Beach St. (twice), Michigan St., Florida Gulf Coast, and Grand Canyon (who gave FSU their 1st loss of the season). They swing the bats. Do we ride Barnhill every game as long as she can go? Or do we give Lugo or Hightower a shot?

Got to ride her...she's throwing her best stuff of the season right now

And Jack Leftwich throws a complete game 2-hitter as the baseball team beat Missouri tonight 2-0 behind a Langworthy 2 run HR. Win tomorrow and they have a chance at getting in the NCAA's.

Win today and they are likely in.
Lost today and they will need some SEC Tourney wins.

All season, softball has needed bats and baseball has needed pitching.
Both are getting what they needed when it counts the most.. :)

SWEET,,, so GoooooooooGATORS!

There has never been an SEC team make the NCAA tournament with less that 13 regular season conference wins. And only 58% of the time has 13 wins gotten a team into the tourney. And that's not counting wins in the SEC tournament. From all that the announcers have been saying and from what I \'ve been reading, today is a must win to even have a chance at getting in, short of winning the SEC tournament.

UF's Men's Tennis team lost in the national semifinals today to Texas 4-2. They lost a close doubles point and had to win 4 of 6 singles matches, but were unable to do so. This year's run to the final 4 was only the 3rd time in history the men's tennis team has gotten this far. They've never played for a national title. But great season.

We got our 13th conference win 4-3 over Missouri, with Christian Scott striking out the side with a runner on 2nd base in the bottom of the 9th. We're probably now in the NCAA tournament based on our SOS and RPI, but it would be nice to win a couple games in the SEC tournament to make sure. Gooo Gators. They had only won 1 SEC road game until this weekend when they swept #22 Missouri. Huge, huge.

UF softball got 6 runs in the 1st and 2 more in the 2nd, while Kelly Barnhill (2 innings) and Natalie Lugo (3 innings) combined on a no hitter as the Gators cruised to an 8-0 win over Boise State to stay in the winners bracket of their regional. The bottom of the batting order continues to be crucial for the Gators as Jade Caraway went 2-2 with 3 RBI's, Hannah Sipos had an RBI hit as did Alex Voss and Jamie Hoover. All 8 runs were scored with 2 outs. Looking more and more like a UF/Tennessee Super Regional, as UT is 2-0 in their regional in Knoxville.

Just an FYI - The SEC baseball tournament is quirky in that the 1st round games on Tuesday are single elimination, with the top 4 seeds getting a bye and not starting play until Wednesday. After day 1, it's double elimination until the semifinals, which goes back to single elimination and the championship is 1 game next Sunday. Here's a link to the bracket. https://www.secsports.com/bracket/baseball
So the Gators play the 1st game on Tuesday at 10:30 AM against Texas A&M. If they lose, they're done. If they win, they play Georgia on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Tough draw.

#5 seed Gator softball advanced to their 7th straight Super Regional by beating Boise St. today 5-0. UF outscored their regional opponents 16-0 this weekend and have only given up 1 run in their last 6 games. Kelly Barnhill threw 6 innings and improved her record to 32-11, while the team went to 47-15. Amanda Lorenz went 3-4, but the RBI's were from Roberts, Reynoso, Hoover (HR) and Lindsay. When all the team contributes, this team is really hard to beat and the Gators head into next week's Super Regionals against either North Carolina or Tennessee (winner-take-all game starting at 2:30 in Knoxville) playing their best ball of the season. Not bad for a "down" year for Tim Walton's club. :)

If they win the SEC tourney do they get into a regional? Mace looking good so far.

I just finished presenting at a conference in Atlantic City, walking out to my car and I get a twitter alert that the Gator aTm game is on and now I’m in the parking lot of the Borgata pounding Guinness in my car and watching the SEC tournament on my phone. Modern life...Great!

Ok. Never mind on Mace. Keep fighting young man! And the aTM lefty looks like Randy Johnson. Sully looks super pissed.

Sullys pissed they’re swinging at breaking balls. Mace was dealing again. Announcers are talking like this is a play in game for UF.

aTm’s staff is sick. They said their no. 2 hasn’t given up more than 2 earned runs in any game this year. We usually put up those kind of numbers.

Incredible that aTm is in a playin game for the SECT. Shows you how good the league is and why UF may get in with 13 league wins. It is hard to say you’re not regional worthy when you go on the road and win the last series of the year against a national seed.

How in the hell do you get caught overrunning third base and give up the third out when it would have been bases loaded!? Are you going to score from 2nd on an infield single!? Wtf!?

Scored two runs at least. McConnell is a boss.

The bullpen blew it again. Gators up 5-3 bottom of the 8th and Christian Scott gives up a solo HR and is relieved by Jordan Butler, who proceeds to give up a 3-run HR to a .243 hitter. Bullpen absolutely SUCKS.

Pretty much sums up our season.

Our hitters and Texas A&M's poor defense gave us every opportunity to win this game. Tommy Mace pitched a solid 6.2 innings, giving up 3 runs, 2 earned (Smith throwing error). But Scott and Roberts gave up 2 runs each and a home run each in the bottom of the 8th to put us behind 7-5. Our guys rallied to tie it in the top of the 9th. But Nolan Crisp allowed a walk and a 2 out RBI hit in the bottom of the 10th to get the loss.

We still may get in the NCAA tournament (projected in as of now), but it won't take many upsets in the numerous conference tournaments around the country to knock us off that bubble. Selection show is Monday at Noon on ESPNU. Would be nice to get in, just for the experience the young guys would get and as a reward to the older guys leaving the program. But nobody can complain if we get left out.

Charla Echols from Michigan State is transferring to Florida. She is a part of Team USA and a BIG 10 All-freshmen. As mentioned, she was a freshman this year, so not exactly sure why she's transferring. From Georgia and her sister was a senior at MSU, so looks like she most likely just wants to move closer to home.

Anyways, 3B player with a 0.344 BA.

Walton has done well with his xfer-ins so far... :D

So welcome to Gator Nation Charla. :)
True - The best one so far was Stephanie Tofft, who came in from Northern Illinois, played 3rd and helped us win our 1st national title in 2014.

UF softball opened Super Regionals with a 3-0 win over Tennessee, as Kelly Barnhill continued her post season dominance, throwing a 2-hitter. She was not as sharp as normal, falling behind batters and having 8 3-2 counts, walking 3 and hitting 2 more. But when she needed an out or a big pitch, she came through, as the Vols didn't hit the ball hard all night. Meanwhile the Gators got 7 hits, including 2 from Alex Voss, plus RBI's from Lindaman, Reynoso and Hoover. The Gators improved to 48-15 on the year, Barnhill to 33-11. Game 2 is Saturday at 6 pm where it's expected to be 98 degrees in Gainesville.

Barnhill Post Season:
Sr Kelly Barnhill picked up her 14th shutout of the season, which ties her for the nation's lead in the category.
In the 2019 Post-season, Barnhill (5-0) has thrown 42 innings, allowed just 1 run on 13 hits, fanned 45, walked 14, and pitched to a 0.16 ERA. -- Career W/L 103-19 .844

Senior Amanda Lorenz is the NCAA active career leader with 235 walks after she drew 3 tonight against the Lady Vols and is now tied for the SEC career record of 235 set by Arkansas' Devon Wallace (2012-'15).
