Gator Spring sports beginning soon...

#FIRETIMWALTON #FIREKEVINOSULLIVAN

Unprepared. Outcoached. Baseball had no business being in the tournament and Softball was given a cake walk to the CWS. Just clean house...they can take Mike White with them as well.

Well, the two homo's (homo-sassie & choke-la-homo) agree, so I guess it's a sure thing to happen.....

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin June 5 in Austin, Texas. https://floridagators.com/schedule.aspx?path=trackfield

Brady McConnell taken with the 44th pick in the MLB draft by the KC Royals. That's the 3rd pick in the 2nd round. KC took a SS as the 2nd overall pick as well. Our top high school prospect, Riley Greene, was the 5th overall pick by the Tigers. However, LHP Hunter Barco, a projected Top 15 pick from Jax Bolles, had not been picked yet through the 2nd round. Maybe he got the word out that he's going to college?!

I couldn't find anything, but how does the incoming baseball recruiting class stack up?

More info. on Gator baseball recruiting & the draft.

If Matthew Allan & Hunter Barco end up at UF, our pitching staff gets considerably better immediately.

Saw McConnell was the first Gator to go, in the second round. Definitely be nice to bring in a couple high school arms capable of contributing to next year’s staff.

Matthew Allen was just drafted with the 89th pick, middle of Round 3, by the Mets. Pick value is $667,900. Apparently his family set a $4 million base for his contract, so let's see what happens? They're in Round 4 now and Barco is still undrafted.

Wil Dalton drafted at the end of the 8th Round, pick #257 by the Red Sox, value $159,700. Hunter Barco still undrafted, meaning he's probably told them he's going to college>

We may come out of this not as damaged as originally thought.
Yep. Langworthy back as a senior Captain. Dalton should come back, but it depends on how much he likes school or wants a degree, or whether he needs the money of going pro. Barco almost assuredly will be coming to UF, as a big time left handed starter, which we haven't had in a while. There are several other good pitchers in this recruiting class, along with 2 catchers and 4 infielders.

Excited for my next step and to be a part of @GatorsBB !! Road to Omaha starts now #GatorNation – at University Of Florida 6/4/19

2019 baseball commit Tyler Owens of Ocala Trinity Catholic was drafted by the Braves in the 13th round with pick #397. No monetary value assigned. He's a 5'10" RHP/SS. Also, 3B/SS Joshua Rivera from IMG Academy & Avon Park, was drafted by the Padres in the 22nd round with Pick #653, no monetary value. More than likely, both will end up at UF.
What is the timeframe on these kids signing or staying in school?
August 15th or when the kid actually enrolls in class, whichever comes first.

Two stud high school pitchers, right-hander Matthew Allan and left-hander Hunter Barco 6-4 208 were both expected to be drafted on Monday. Neither were. In terms of how good they are as prospects, Perfect Game had Allan rated as the No. 17 overall prospect, while Barco was the No. 42 overall prospect. Both remain among the Top 5 prep prospects left available following the first two rounds of the draft.

Barco has already announced that he's a Gator. :):D:)

==========

Here are the 15 best available prospects for Day 2. Of the group, I would guess that Matthew Allan, Jack Leiter & Hunter Barco are all unsignable at this point. I could see any of the other players being potential overslot picks early on Day 2:
~ That would be massive news for a Florida team that needs an influx of talented pitchers in a major way.

==========

Day 2 of Major League Baseball's 2019 first-year player draft got underway on Tuesday, and it didn't take long for the New York Mets to introduce some drama into the afternoon's proceedings. With the 11th pick of the third round (and the 89th overall), the Mets selected right-handed pitcher Matthew Allan, a well-regarded prep arm who received first-round grades. (slot $667,000)

The reason Allan was available on day two was due to his perceived signability issues. He has the makings of a frontline starter thanks to his size, his arm strength, and his feel for a high-quality breaking ball. It's not surprising that some team decided to make a run at signing him -- it is surprising that the team in question is the Mets. As Mike Axisa noted on Monday, Allan is believed to want $4 million in order to forego his commitment to the University of Florida. Yahoo Sports beat writer Matt Ehalt has since reported Allan's ask is closer to $3 million: (Mets have said publicly that they are confident they can sign him, but they appear to only have about 2.5 M left in their draft signing kitty)

Deadlines approaching:

June 30th Summer B begins @ UF.

Aug 15th MLB deadline to sign.

Ocala should be the baseball and softball teams’ beat writer. He’s my go to source for both.

Just posted on another site that Brad Weitzel is no longer on the baseball staff. Major opening since he's been with O'Sullivan his entire tenure at UF.

Got Legs??? :D

AUSTIN, Texas. – Florida senior Yanis David captured the program's 1st-ever Long Jump National Title with the 10th-farthest mark in collegiate history Thursday night at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

David had far and away the best series of her career, as she topped her personal record three times, with the final of those efforts reaching 6.84 meters (22 feet, 5.25 inches). The jump tied the No. 7 performer on the collegiate all-time top 10, broke Shara Proctor's 10-year-old school record by 13 centimeters (5 inches), and topped her own personal record from last year's SEC Outdoor Championships by 17 centimeters (6.5 inches).

We have representation in 7 of the men's sprint finals tonight, and then we have someone competing in triple and high jumps. We would need some incredible performances to capture another title, but we should snag a top 5 finish.

UF Men finish 2nd behind Texas Tech in the NCAA Track & Field National Championships. Women finish up tomorrow.

No points in the long, triple and high jumps cost us. Based on seedings and PRs we left about 12 points out there with these 3 events. We used to dominate the sand jumps.

I would think the T & F finishes should get UF enough points to move into the Top 10 of the Learfield Director's Cup. Florida has never finished outside the Top 10.

Gator Jr. Track Star Grant Holloway became the first man in NCAA history to sweep the indoor and outdoor high hurdles 3 consecutive seasons. He did so by setting a new collegiate record of 12.98 sec.

He followed that up by running the 3rd leg of the 4x100 Relay and helping his Gator teammates set a new collegiate record for that event at 37.97 sec.

Holloway closed the meet in spectacular fashion by running a 43.74-second split in the 4x400a world-class leg and best in the field – to lift the Gators to a 2nd-place finish with a new UF-record of 2:59.60.

The rematch with UK's Daniel Roberts in the High Hurdles set the stage for Holloway, who departs UF with a school-record 8 national championships, surpassing Marquis Dendy (7) on the program's all-time list.

Back on the baseball front, Justin Alintoff, Roberto Pena and Santino Miozzi have entered the transfer portal, along with former lefty pitcher Andrew Baker, who played at a developmental program in Orlando this year rather than at UF. Pena battled Acton hard for the 3B job over the winter and from what I read, Acton barely beat him out. He was a highly touted recruit. The other 2 were transfers from CC's who just didn't get the PT they thought they would. Best of luck to them all.

UF Women T & F finished 6th at the NCAA Championships. More quality points to help our Director's Cup standing.
