Some of my forbears were relegated to the "trail of tears". My brothers and sisters are part Choctaw. As i understand it, historically, the seat of Choctaw nation was Ridge, Mississippi or Red Bay, Alabama. What i recall from reading the history, congress and Jackson decided to sell the Indian lands of the five civilized tribes in the southeast and swap them lands the US claimed but didn't necessarily own in Oklahoma. I think the Indians were suppose to get monies from the sale of the net proceeds but I think the Indians got swindled. I believe the only indians who got any "net proceeds" were some chiefs who got some whiskey whenever they were asking were's our money, nevertheless although some of our people were treated poorly the settlers also brought some good things to their lives (such as Jesus) and so times change and we are proud to be Americans.
