Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

I think Doering may have jumped the gun on this. Sounds like his dad is going to be coaching at that high school also.

I guess the obvious destination would be Bama if they really don't like their options at QB. It would be nice if we somehow got involved but I doubt we do. Its probably Bama and then Auburn next as far as where he ends up if he did leave.

Fever,

After reading article & seeing that Tommy Rees, his former OC, is now at Bama, I get your thoughts on him going to Bama.
But since Buchner is from California, I don't understand why you would consider Auburn to be next ?
What connection do you see that a hefty slice of NIL$$$ wouldn't wash away ?

I think Auburn might be willing to offer a little more NIL than us if Bama doesn't get him and he still wants to leave. He needs to be polished up some but appears to have nice upside potential.

Fever,

the article you posted listed TCU and Stanford as schools that have shown interest in portal quarterbacks this spring.

"...Buchner, from La Mesa, California, had offers out of high school from multiple programs, including Alabama, TCU, Georgia, USC and Michigan."

If I'm from California, I would check out Stanford & USCw, before I even thought about Auburn or UF.

I doubt he wants to sit this year at USC and no telling what Auburn is doing but with their situation I think they would offer him a better deal than a school like Stanford.

Fever,

Who was that 6th round pick from Michigan who ended up with the New England Patriots; Tom somebody or other.

Getting as bad as @instaGATOR with the every 3 star or lower QB is going to be another Trask. Bennett can't dream of being a QB like that. 2 years and he is cut is my guess because he doesn't have the physical traits for them to give him any longer than that before cutting him.

College Football's Best Quarterbacks in Transfer Portal

Bunch of names listed. We have already bounced around some of these names; but a few new ones have appeared.

A new old face that I would take for depth -

Emory Jones, Cincinnati (from Arizona State)
The next stop in Jones' career will be his third program after stints at Florida and Arizona State. He's been up-and-down as a passer (7.7 yards per attempt and 18 career interceptions over 631 attempts). However, Jones is an effective runner (1,304 yards and 14 scores) and can bring starting experience from two different Power 5 conferences (Pac-12 and SEC) to his next team.

So Emery Jones beat out that Cincy QB that declared for the portal? If he did I want no part of that QB. Jones didnt improve much at all at AZ State I think.

We don't know how many will commit; but it looks like CBN & Entire staff are out making contacts & recruiting extremely hard.

Hopefully, our NIL situation has been improved as well - that will be necessary for recruiting success as well.

Hope we get a good group.

Our QB situation is what it is; hoping for a pleasant surprise there as well.

Now they are down to 19 scholarship players from last season remaining. How many has he signed? Might be hard to field a team with any depth even with the portal.

They were 1-11 with several blowout losses. Would you want to keep anyone off a 1-11 team?

You still need to be able to field a team with some depth. Curious to see their portal pickups. Might take a quick look at that.

Edit: He has got quite a few transfers with a few being high level and most being average 3 star type starters in college. Still looks like its going to be tough there. When USC and UCLA leave that conference gets easier though.

It was crazy Matthews was able to stay in the league that long as a backup QB.
Yes…he hung around a long time. Jeff Driskel and Alex Anzalone are still hanging around in the NFL as well. Anzalone is actually doing really well. Driskel may end up as a similar path as Matthews and make it in the league for a long time as a backup QB. I think Driskel is like on his 6th team in 7 years.

Driskel I dont understand as even though they got the crazy turnovers out of his system he isnt good at pushing the ball down the field but once you get some starts they are more likely to keep you it seems later. I dont really remember what Matthews looked like when he got to play. I thought he filled in for Flutie a few times and won some games but I guess that was a different QB that season at Buffalo.

Jacoby Brissett making it a long time as well, even though he didn't finish as a Gator. I thought he should have been the starter at UF over Driskel anyway.

Yep Brissett has shown he can play a little. The Driskel - Muschamp deal reminded me of the Mullen - Franks deal.

Matthew’s best years was when he was with the Bears. That is where he got his most starts and most of his TD passes. And then he got some starts and threw like 10 TDs when he played for Spurrier with the Skins.

Nation's top EDGE receives visit from Florida coaches

CBN & his Gator staff all over the country on recruiting visits.
Our QB situation does not appear to be very good for next season
BUT
The games are played on the field; not on websites.

Even if we have lackluster QB play; we will win some games.

Both Saban & Smart started off by building the defense first, then adding talented QBs to a good running game.

Hopefully we are starting the same way.
If we could just develop & keep a good OL together for more than 1 season !

Our recruiting efforts are starting to come together; once we start winning some games, it will take off.

In UGA's case, Stetson Bennett refused to admit Transfer J T Daniels & the other QBs ahead of him were better, then, after going 29-1 with 2 Natties, he proved it.

Carsen Beck, UGA's apparent QB1 for next season, was one of Kirby's 1st strong HS QB recruit. Stetson keep him on the bench for 2 years.

Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson was in Duncanville, Texas, on Wednesday to see five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons, according to Swamp247.

Simmons was on campus recently to see Florida’s Orange and Blue Game and has held an offer from the Gators since last summer. 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong reported that Simmons is set to return on the weekend of June 23 for another visit.

Joe Milton III, who is set to start in Knoxville after the departure of Hendon Hooker to the NFL.

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray thinks the Tennessee Volunteers have America’s most talented quarterback entering the 2023 college football season.

“He is the most gifted QB in America, he is,” Murray said of Milton. “He has the best arm. He is extremely athletic. The dude can dunk a basketball like it’s nothing. … He’s a great athlete, and he’s a gigantic human being and can throw the ball 80-plus yards.”

The next AR ?

Little known CFB recruiting fact -

3-Star QB Joe Milton Commits to Michigan over Georgia, Florida

Another Stste of Florida QB, we missed out on.

The 6'4 ½" and 222-pound Milton is a 3-star prospect, per Scout, and No. 29 overall player, No. 10 quarterback in the South region and No. 3 quarterback from the state of Florida in the 2018 recruiting class.

Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press (h/t USA Today) noted he also considered the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs and made trips to visit all three schools.

Ya think?
Mullen got MSU to a one week #1 ranking. He just got his contract at UF and stopped caring. Dont think he ever really wanted to be there.

Both Saban and Smart both had O lines and D lines etc to make them pretty good in year 2. We dont have that level of talent there yet to have seasons like that.

The difference between me and you feveredbrains, is that I look at a kids history, stats, and film, and then I make my own judgments (guesses) on how he might perform as the Gator's QB, at that time and with the coaches and personal on the team.

While you look at the recruiting stars and are guided by what some biased commentator, that fits in with your own bias, tells you to believe.... 😝

As to Bennett, I couldn't care any less about him, one way or the other... 🙄

Nonsense. I said Trasks high school tape showed good potential and King being the starter affected his ranking. Trask's tape showed the stuff you want to see for a college QB.

Nice dodge attempt, but I'm not buying it feveredbrains.
The dunnygoater was the biggest Trask detractor, but he was certainly not the only one.
And Trask is past history, this is now about Max Brown and his better than Trask film, which you are now attempting to bypass in the QB discussion.

Just like you were all about
'Miller Time,' right up until he stunk on ice in the bowl game. And then you switched to 5-star Mertz or 5-star DJ, or even 4-star Simmons, or whoever your favorite biased commentator tells you is the QB flavor of the day.... 🙄

For the record, I was never a Trask "detractor." I just got tired of you lauding him because he had a big arm and was an Eagle Scout.

I certainly wasn't a Frank's fan, that's for sure.

You talking about Matthews or Rex Grossman?
