Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

Ben Bryant is very mid. He’s not any better than Mertz (& Mertz not any good) Why would you waste a scholly on a QB that isn’t any better than what we already have?

UF is not pursuing Bear Alexander. He couldn’t play this year for UF.
Paco,

FWIW
Bryant did lead Cincy to CFP berth as a RS JR; more than any of our other QBs have EVER done.

You could, be right - I'm not a QB coach or analyst.
So If Bryant isn't that good - why sign him or ANY OTHER portal QB now and waste a scholarship.

CBN the one whining about another scholarship QB for depth - & said it while Mertz was still unpacking his bags.

Why did CBN sign Mertz & Miller ?

Neither one of them is an SEC caliber QB !

Three open scholarships last I read - I would get an OL & a healthy TE, & a stretch the field WR or a DL.

What would your choices be Paco ?

Luke Fickell became the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers in Nov 2022.
Graham Mertz entered the portal Dec 5, 2022 & eventually left Wisconsin & came to G'ville.

Wonder why Fickell made no effort to keep his starting QB ?

These are quotes from Wisconsin Football: Transfer portal tracker
They are not even lukewarm; it sounds more like Fickell told him to move on.

"Speaking with reporters on a conference call, head coach Luke Fickell acknowledged that he preferred for Mertz to stay, but respected his decision, per 247’s Evan Flood.

Luke Fickell said he spoke with Graham Mertz before his decision to transfer:

"We want nothing more than the best for him. I encouraged him to stick around here and see how the changes go.

"That's not what I wanted him to do, but I respect that."

Fever,

DAMN - you are right - I screwed up !!!

I checked teams stats for Cincy's record & when I checked individual stats I blew right past the reference to Eastern Michigan in 2021.

Now I see why Paco didn't think much of him as a QB transfer target.

Paco
IOU an apology ! LOL

I think he left so he could start. If he is better than Mertz it wouldnt be by much probably. Have any good starters entered the portal?

After Nappy brougjt in Miller so he could let Max rot on the bench last season,
and then did nothing to improve AR,
and then brought in Mertz to again let Max rot,
and is now wanting to bring in yet another xfeer QB,
I have lost all faith in him as the OC/QB's coach.

I'm totally disgusted and will now leave up to all of the football genius types here to decide what needs to happen at the Gator QB position going forward.
Bye now.....

Well @instaGATOR if we are as bad at QB as that Sportsbook thinks we are dont be surprised if Brown starts a game in the 2nd half of the season. Its going to turn ugly fast if we somehow lost to Utah, Tenn and KY and I have no faith throwing Miller in there would change much if that happens.

Paco,
As I have stated many times in the past, I respect your eyes & ears - your behind the scenes information which you are kind enough to share on this board.

The site I footnoted in my original post seemed to think that we would pursue him heavily.
https://hailfloridahail.com/2023/04/21/florida-football-gators-transfer-portal-bear-alexander/

Are your comfortable sharing why you say that we will not pursue Bear Alexander ?

Are there SEC transfer rules which would prohibit him from transferring to UF & playing immediately ?

Yes SEC transfer rules

I think the rules now say to play on another SEC team that coming season they had to have been in the portal in that window prior to Spring practice starting.

Its strange more SEC QBs that didnt win the job arent trying to go to a team outside the SEC though. The number will be very large at the end of the season.

The 1st TD throw in the O&B game by rsSo Miller,

looks almost exactly like the TD throw in the twittet cliip by HS Sr Brown.

Taken from the Gator Country article on HS recruit Max last year....

"Something doesn’t add up when you look at Max Brown’s recruiting profile. In his junior and senior seasons at Lincoln Christian School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he completed a combined 71.6 percent of his passes for 4,416 yards with 68 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also added 2,335 yards and 33 more scores on the ground. He produced a sparkling 41-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio as a senior.
He led the Bulldogs to consecutive undefeated regular seasons and appearances in the state championship game."

“Max is just a tremendous athlete,” Lincoln Christian head coach Jerry Ricke said. “He’s definitely your dual-threat type quarterback. He’s got a big arm, a live arm. A kid that understands what it takes to win, just great leadership skills, and he’s a guy that wants the ball in his hands in crucial moments in big games.”
==========

So keep on wasting coaches time on a bevy of failed xfer QB's, instead of putting in the time and effort to develop the under-rated 'diamond in the rough' HS recruit that you went to the trouble to flip away from a place where he'd likely already be the starter....

In the iG's opinion, at this point and looking at how he's been USED, Max needs to xfer away if he wants to play football, or leave football behind for baseball if he's gonna stay at UF, because I've seen nothing here so far that would suggest that the current staff knows how to develop or use QB's....

Per the article Ocala Posted

Henderson is the third Florida player to enter the NCAA transfer portal during the spring window, joining offensive lineman David Conner and edge rusher Antwaun Powell-Ryland, who announced his decision to look for a new opportunity on Friday.

The Gators have five open scholarship roster spots as of April 22.

Obviously, How we use them is critical.

CBS Sports ranks Florida's Graham Mertz, other transfer quarterbacks

https://gatorswire.usatoday.com/202...am-mertz-transfer-quarterback-rankings-tiers/

CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah recently took a look at how the transfer portal quarterback class grades out heading into the 2023 season, ordering each cohort into tiers tied to their expectations. Here is what Jeyarajah had to offer on Florida’s Graham Mertz, who is listed in the fourth and final tier of players who are looking to take the next step.

Billy Napier’s program is in desperate need of a reliable signal-caller under center and it is yet to be determined if Mertz is capable of living up to the lofty expectations the Gator Nation holds on its starting quarterback. While it is still possible to bolster the QB room through the portal, it seems very unlikely at this point.

College football transfer quarterback tiers: Playoff hopefuls, breakout candidates and more in 2023 season

Sam Hartman, Notre Dame: Without question, Hartman is the biggest QB transfer of the offseason. The senior ranks as the ACC's all-time leader in passing touchdowns after throwing 110 scores at Wake Forest, including 77 in the past two seasons. Now, he has the potential to completely revitalize Notre Dame's inconsistent offense.

I wont miss all those screen passes for 2 yard gains. I wonder if we get a speedster in the portal or will a true freshman step in there.

WTF are you babbling about feveredbrains??? 😵

WR Xzavier Henderson 2022: --
#1 in total receptions, (38)
#3 on the team in receiving yards, (410)

GP 11 - 38 for 410 yds, 10.79 Ave, 2 TD's, L-78, Ave/Gm 37.3

With Shorter now gone on to the NFL, Henderson would have been #2 among the returning receivers....

He must have had some long ones to jack the number up because I remember a bunch of screens to him only going for 2 or 3 yards a pop.

I hope you realize that I don't go by what is remembered by a feveredbrain.... 😉 (likely a primary reason why player stats are recorded...)

Yep I wasnt far off as he had 3 games where he had 13 catches for 220 yards. In the rest it was 25 catches for 190 yards and in 2 of those games he averaged less than 4 yards a catch.

Hate losing Henderson. He was our 2nd best receiver last year. Would have been nice having our top 2 guys back. Curious as to why, but with NIL who the heck really knows.

3rd I think in yards but freshman pushing him is my guess. Could be wrong but I doubt he can get more NIL from another school than us. Some think its due to our QB situation but not sure if I buy that or not.

Doubt has to do with QB. But I agree he may have been pushed by younger guys.

Country,

These comments from CBN may be appropriate -

IMO, Burke about the same size as Henderson, a bit faster with better moves.

During Florida's April 13 spring scrimmage, Marcus Burke looked like he was 'next up' after an up-and-down redshirt freshman season last fall.

Head coach Billy Napier admitted steps have been taken both on and off the field during his time around the Jacksonville native that put him in a position to make plays in spring camp and push for playing time this season.

"He is a guy that's always been one of the more talented guys, and I think he has grown up this offseason in particular," Napier said after the spring game. "He has taken some steps forward just in terms of being dependable, being accountable, being a guy that not only the staff can respect, but also his teammates, his consistency."

I wonder if he'll end up at Arizona State or Colorado.
I'm sure Insta will miss his killer punt returns.
I don't know chit, you should go after the professionals with this....

I wish you football gunius types would finally decide, and then stick to your decisions.

1. Florida has no quality in the WR room.
2. Florida is so loaded at WR that Henderson leaving is a good thing, even a bonus....
Oh - my comment early that Henderson was a slow-fast guy doesn't imply I don't want him. It's just an observation - truth is this hurts bad.
