Embarrassing College Football Spring Game Crowd Goes Viral

Spring game hasn’t been a spectacle for years for the Huskies, and they’re essentially playing a simulated scrimmage," he tweeted.

It's hardly front-page news that spring games don't intrigue most fans. It's a topic that prompted Auburn coach Hugh Freeze in early April to propose a replacement for the annual game.

"The solution is, allow us to scrimmage somebody...another team. Everybody would get out of it what they want. Let’s adopt a charity to give all the proceeds too," Freeze said.

If put into place, Freeze's proposition would surely generate more interest than lightly attended exhibitions like the one displayed above.

Not the first time this NFL scrimmage format has been proposed for CFB.

A year or so ago, someone brought up the idea of a spring scrimmage matchup with either UF-UGA or UF-FSU with a 2 year contract - home & home.

Might be too much blood & injuries on the field if we adapted that; but it would definitely be interesting !

https://athlonsports.com/college-football/embarrassing-college-football-crowd-washington-huskies

Jeff, the Spring scrimmage is not supposed to be for the fans. It's for the new coming season's players to get a little on the field game day experience. Being against their fellow teammates helps to reduce the chance of an injury. It's also to get new EE freshmen a preseason look at the speed change from HS to college, and let them see where they are in comparison to their fellow roster position competition.

For the fans, they get to see the new, and some older players that are unlikely to be in the playing rotations in the coming fall. The deep depth and developmental guys.

Just say NO to it becoming a 'counts for nothing' way to get players hurt before the season even starts.... As always, JMOHO....

Jeff, the Spring scrimmage is not supposed to be for the fans.
Then why do they sell tickets to the O&B game ?

Make the O&B game free for everyone & open up all practices the same way.

agree
I said that in my original post, by pointing out the increased injury, that would result from playing spring games against other teams.

"Might be too much blood & injuries on the field if we adapted that; but it would definitely be interesting !"
it's also to get new EE freshmen a preseason look at the speed change from HS to college, and let them see where they are in comparison to their fellow roster position competition.
don't think EE need a game type format to figure that out
For the fans, they get to see the new, and some older players that are unlikely to be in the playing rotations in the coming fall. The deep depth and developmental guys.
Don't know about anyone else; but I don't need to see the older players who are NOT in the rotation; they will be in Transfer Portal shortly anyway.

New players - if they make the depth chart - fine; if not wait till next year.
Just say NO to it becoming a 'counts for nothing' way to get players hurt before the season even starts.... As always, JMOHO....

I stopped going to the O&B game when they began to charge for it.
Total Socialist-U money grubber elitist BS imoho....
A free O&B game was when working families that can almost never make an over-priced season game, get a chance to go and bring all of the neighborhood kids to the SWAMP.

We agree on the injury potential.

Then EE's can just practice with no officials and no simulated game day experience, fine with me, but you might want to ask the EE's opinions on that....

Depth and developmental are now down the xfer protal drain in your opinion?
Well maybe, and certainly for a few. I still think that most remain, and I'd like a chance to see them before they make the regular season rotation list.

How Florida's Edge Rush Changes Without Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr.

Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr.'s transfer portal entry appears concerning for Florida on the surface, but the newly-shaped depth of his position should soften the blow of his departure.

The idea that Florida lost a projected starting edge rusher to the transfer portal on Friday isn't untrue, but it deserves further context.

There could be some growing pains along the way as the Gators look to fill his reps, but Florida's edge rushing position may not be as damaged by Powell-Ryland's departure as advertised.

Good, Detailed article; didn't want to cut & paste - read the rest below.

4-star WR Dre'lon Miller names top schools — and Florida Gators make the cut

Touted 4-star receiver target Dre’lon Miller of Silsbee (Texas) revealed his top schools Sunday — and Florida made the cut.

Miller, a top-100 national recruit, has a top group of Florida, Duke, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Penn State, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas A&M.

He is the No. 16 receiver and No. 77 overall prospect in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The Gators hope to get him on campus in June.

The Florida staff is getting help in this recruitment from the program’s 5-star QB commit

Per On3’s Sam Spiegelman, 5-star Florida quarterback commit DJ Lagway, also of Texas, “is working alongside Gators coach Billy Napier and new receivers coach Billy Gonzales to recruit Miller to the Swamp. The Gators are trending for an official visit from Miller, who will likely be joined by the prized quarterback on the trip.”

Lagway’s efforts seem to be having an impact on Miller. How much of one, though, remains to be seen.

“DJ is always talking to me,” Miller told On3. “DJ and JJ (Jeremiah Smith) left me and went, so I need to get up there with DJ and see what it’s all about. I’ve been waiting to go with him and he told me I’m not gonna go home when I get there, so I can’t wait to see it.”

Bear Alexander, a former Georgia defensive tackle and 247Sports' No. 1 available player in the transfer portal, reportedly committed to USC on Sunday.

According to 247Sports, Alexander is the highest-rated prospect in USC's transfer class. He also becomes the fourth defensive lineman to land with the Trojans this offseason after USC added Anthony Lucas (Texas A&M), Kyon Barrs (Arizona) and Jack Sullivan (Purdue) earlier this spring.

Alexander, a four-star recruit in Georgia's 2022 class, reportedly chose to transfer to USC over Texas, Colorado, Oregon, Miami and Penn State.

The State of Football in Florida

The past and future of Florida's Flagship teams

The third biggest state in America by population is also one of the biggest states for College Football. Florida is the only state to have three national championship-winning teams since 2000, each of whom has a massive fanbase, claims a different part of the Sunshine State, and bitterly hates each other. Everything, from landing a recruit, or a bad loss is brought up in frequent arguments. With so much to talk about from Florida, Florida State, and Miami, let’s talk about the state of football in Florida.

--->

However, there is a new wrinkle for the 2023 season, a fourth-power conference team in Florida. Central Florida will be joining the Big 12, and while they are still a step behind the three powers, they will only make the Florida power dynamics more interesting.

Good Read

ENOUGH OF THIS REDUNDANT NON SENSE , YOU headline current news, but the articles continuously contain reruns of old news as fillers , this is TOO much - even FURMAN BISHER couldn’t get away with that method of reporting.

How top QBs in 2023 NFL draft performed vs. Georgia

Georgia played one of the top five 2023 NFL draft quarterbacks nine times over the past two seasons and won eight.

Oct. 30, 2021: Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson

Georgia 34, Florida 7

Richardson’s stats:
12 of 20 for 82 passing yards and two interceptions with one lost fumble; 12 carries for 26 yards

Anthony Richardson started against Georgia in 2021, but did not finish the game. Three of his turnovers contributed to Georgia building a healthy 24-0 lead before halftime.

He improved his performance against the Dawgs in 2022.

Oct. 29, 2022: Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson

Georgia 42, Florida 20

Richardson’s stats:
18 of 37 for 271 passing yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions; 11 carries for 19 yards

Anthony Richardson played much better in his second game against Georgia. He connected on a long touchdown pass to cut Georgia’s advantage to 28-20 in the third quarter. It was all Georgia after that.

Will Stetson Bennett get drafted? Betting odds not looking good.

According to FanDuel, prospects are not looking great for the 25-year-old quarterback. The the odds of Bennett going undrafted are plus-100.

Odds of being a 7th round pick: plus-300
Odds of being a 6th round pick: plus-350
Odds of being a 5th round pick: plus-500
Odds of being a 4th round pick: plus-1,400
Odds of being a 3rd round pick: plus-4,000
Odds of being a 2nd round pick: plus-10,000
Odds of being a 1st round pick: plus-10,000

Seriously,
All Stetson did in the two years he was UGA's Starting QB was go 29-1 & win TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

I mean, really, what is the big deal here ?

He was just a product of the system; with UGA's Defense (5 NFL 1st Round Picks) & Running game any other QB could have done what Bennett did - Right ?

"...You can call me crazy, biased, a homer or whatever you want. But if I’m an NFL general manager, I’m taking the the two-time title winner and quarterback who was named MVP of every College Football Playoff game he played in."
Joe Vitale

The best he could do in 2022 -
4,127 yards, 27 TDs and 7 INTs. He rushed for an additional 10 touchdowns.

As an Undrafted Free Agent; you could probably sign Stetson Bennett for a couple bucks & some used jerseys.

But, who needs a WINNER like that ?

I doubt Stetson Bennett would have thrived here with our roster. I look for him to be on an NFL roster for maybe 2 years and then out of the league.

Sounds about right.

I am trying to think who in the SEC might have a worse QB situation than we do. Just Auburn? Vandy I would call a push at least but if their QB had the same players I think he might possibly be better than ours. As far as our schedule we likely have more overall talent than teams like Tenn, KY, Arkansas, SC and Utah but with this QB situation and having a below SEC average set of WRs until the true freshman get some experience makes all those game very dangerous for us.

11. "Unfortunately, things still are not looking great for Billy Napier’s Gators."

"The good vibes can be hard to find heading into coach Billy Napier’s second year after a disappointing 6-7 debut and an offseason fraught with recruiting drama, namely in the addition and then quick transfer of five-star quarterback Jaden Rashada amid an NIL dispute. Looking for a reason for optimism? Maybe new defensive coordinator Scott Armstrong can rally the Gators after doing great work last season at (power-house) Southern Mississippi."

We all realize how much you miss your beloved 3rd and Grantham. I'm not comparing Armstrong to Bob Stoops but Stoops was at KSU before he arrived at UF. He looks much more of an upgrade to Grantham and Toney.

Is Weall what you've named that rat in your pocket, the one that you're now speaking for?

And have both of you and your rat now bailed out on the Toney replacement DC that yawl were sniffing the jock of just a few months ago?

WOW! Gators ranked #11 in SEC power rankings after spring practice.
Who is Scott Armstrong? Maybe they could at least get the name of our DC correct.

If we are judging teams by just their spring game then Bama could be in some serious trouble as well. Our QBs looked better than theirs did.

I like Sarkisian's statement - if you put yourself in the T Portal; you aren't coming back to Texas !

Doubt the announcer in the tape really knows what's up with Murphy. He isn't in the portal at present & I don't think CBN would illegally contact another team's player.

That is the guy who the fans say looked better than Manning at this point. My guess is he doesnt leave before the season ends and then only if he thinks they are just going to annoint Manning for 2024 no matter who wins the job.

Florida Gators' scheduled official visits

Beginning this year, football recruits now can officially visit as many schools as they want, but the colleges themselves can host only 56 officials in a given year. So they must remain selective.

Because of this, it’s generally a given there is mutual interest between a player and school if an official is taken.
It’s going to be a busy summer in Gainesville for the Gators.

Already, several high-level prospects have scheduled official visits with Billy Napier’s program and they will kick off in June — right after the evaluation period ends May 31.

WEEKEND OF JUNE 2 Florida Gators official visitors

-5-star QB DJ Lagway, Willis (Texas): FLORIDA COMMIT. The Gators staff will visit Lagway this week.

I am hoping that Lagway will bring 4* WR Dre'lon Miller with him.

-4-star LB Adarius Hayes, Largo (Fla.): FLORIDA COMMIT.

-4-star CB Jalyn Crawford, Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview: Florida, Auburn, LSU are his top three. Optimism is highest at Auburn.

-4-star LB Kris Jones, Stafford (Va.) Mountain View: Gators-Georgia battle could be emerging.

-4-star DL D’antre Robinson, Orlando (Fla.) Jones: Gators, Texas are among his favorites.

-4-star edge Jamonta Waller, Picayune Memorial (Miss.): Ole Miss is the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favorite.

-4-star DL Dealyn Evans, Longview (Texas) Pine Tree: Gators working to flip Texas A&M commit.

-3-star S Josiah Davis, Nashville (Ga.) Berrien: FLORIDA COMMIT.

WEEKEND OF JUNE 16 official visitors

-4-star CB Wardell Mack, Marrero (La.): Has known officials scheduled with the Gators and Texas.

WEEKEND OF JUNE 23 Florida Gators official visitors

-3-star IOL Jake Guarnera, Ponte Vedra (Fla.): Michigan is the overwhelming favorite in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine; recently attended the Gators’ spring game.

If we are judging teams by just their spring game then Bama could be in some serious trouble as well. Our QBs looked better than theirs did.

Not sure what to think of Bama. I think they have at least 2 losses and miss the playoff again though. The problem with us and Auburn is the QBs have looked really pedestrian when given a chance to play. With Mertz I think we might not totally fall apart and go 5-7 and with Miller I think 5-7 would be a real possibilty with a 6-6 cap.

Colorado decommit Ju’Juan Johnson set to visit Gators

Florida football has a second chance to land a guy that they just missed out on earlier in his recruitment.

Ever since Colorado’s spring game, Deion Sanders has had to deal with a lot of roster turnover with plenty of decommitments and guys entering into the transfer portal.

One of those guys is Ju’Juan Johnson, a former 4-star recruit out of Lafayette, Louisiana. When his recruitment came to a close (we thought) he was deciding between Florida, Colorado, and LSU, before pledging to go play for Coach Prime and the Buffs.

Now, in search of a new home, it figures to be either Florida or LSU for the elite athlete.

NFL executive has awesome, honest review of Stetson Bennett

It's no secret - I like Stetson Bennett & admire what he's done in CFB.

Despite winning back-to-back national championships and being a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett faces the possibility of going undrafted in the upcoming NFL draft.

According to FanDuel, prospects are not looking great for the 25-year-old quarterback. The the odds of Bennett going undrafted are +100.

Bennett checks in at 5 feet, 11 inches and 192 pounds. That’s not ideal for an NFL quarterback, but as this executive said…it’s bigger than Bryce Young.
