What I think should happen, almost guaranteeing that it won't happen, is this:
Lagway should be benched and redshirted for 2024.
Mertz should be the full time starter going forward.
One or some of the other QB's should play and/or backup Mertz as needed.
Lagway should be brought in for his 4th (redshirting) game as the starter for the FSU game. That will give him a good start to getting ready for starting in 2025 for his rsFr season.
That way the new HC will have a chance to have Lagway for 4 years,,,, IF HE STAYS...

Napier & staff have twice proven that they can't defend a QB-dt (scUM/aTm),,, proving that they don';t know how a QB-dt plays (i.e. bench DJ to save him).
Going forward, I only see one possible win and that's the next game @ starkvegas cowbell MsSt, and I won't bet on that one.
Gator's are now looking at a real possibility of going 2-10 (or even 1-11) in Napier's 3rd season.
All of the coaches and players are now of Napier's choosing and it's gotten worse every year that he's been here, with the worst being NOW!
Both Mullen and Grantham are now LTFAO at the Socialist-U chumps running this place into the ground right now, while the true long time Gator fans sit in total disgust at the situation.
The iG is now looking forward to the start of Basketball season, even more than I was at this time last season. Here's to earnestly hoping that Goldie doesn't also 'Screw the Pooch.'

This is actually I think a hidden dynamic of the Napier era. Both his offense and defense are so incompetent that somehow both units come away from practice way overconfident.
Excellent point BG. The sad thing has there been NO improvement to any phase of our game in the last 3 years. Kickers are solid, but that's about it. Trenches are still horrible, lots of good skill players but discipline is bad, execution is bad, play calling is bad, defensive schemes are bad, tackling is bad and we are a soft team with no identity. Very, very sad.

So far this season the ST's are the best units on the field, and yes, they hired a good ST's coach.

Our recruiting class was like # 13 that # 7 mess comes from them giving us a good portal number because we stacked up on a lot of non-SEC ready portal guys. Miami's portal class is somehow ranked # 10 behind our # 6 despite anyone with a brain being able to look at that class and seeing Miami got way more proven difference makers than we did. We got many cheaper NIL ones that it was a crapshoot on how they would actually play like Slackman. Badger and Howard the 2 that look like they can actually play are about the only 2 that most people would have said they were real good bets to play at a decent SEC level here. A lot of reaches besides them. 247 is also bad imo for rating many portal guys. They will have players that havent shown top notch ability in power 5 already ranked up there with players that have. Slackman and Douglas I think were way overranked by 247.
