Football UCF @ Florida...

Nice win. The defense played their best overall game in a long time. They were aggressive and played with purpose the whole game. Offense was very sharp the first half, but I thought the play calling the 2nd half was very bad. I guess just trying to run out the clock, but didn't do much of anything after halftime. Will be a rough trip to Knoxville next Saturday, I'm afraid. Vols losing to Arkansas will make them want to take it out of us.

What’s up with the weird obsession with “crowd size?”

After decades of making fun of Miami for having no fans, a half full stadium would be a karmic disaster.

Hoping the loss stings so much Arky ends up beating them twice.

Gotta say Arky really has their number, particularly when they think they are good. They always take those losses really hard.

Best our defensive line has played all year. UCF is no power, but they can run the ball and we did an excellent job of shutting them down for most of the game. Good to get that 3rd win. Will be very difficult to get that 4th anytime soon.

Mertz picked up where he left off in Florida’s rout of Mississippi State, completing 19-of-23 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown. In Florida’s past 2 wins, Mertz has tossed just 6 incompletions, completing 38-of-44 passes for 380 yards, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Lagway’s special play continued Saturday. Two weeks after becoming the first freshman quarterback since Jalen Hurts to lead 2 90-plus yard touchdown drives in a SEC road game, Lagway led Florida on 2 scoring drives in the first half

Mertz is good man. And Lagway has been solid in his opportunities. People have sh!t on this team because of the first few weeks, but they’re not as bad as everybody thinks.

And apparently nobody saw Nico inexplicably run out of bounds last night with the game on the line…tellin’ ya…there have been some inaccurate assumptions made…

Florida’s gonna beat Tennessee. sadgator has said it first…and is completely serious. Somebody bookmark this post when everybody expresses complete shock after it happens…

2024 Stats for the 2 Gator QB's:

Lagway - 38 of 55, 69.1% for 667 yds, 17.5 yds/comp, 4 TD's, L-85, 184.05 QBR

Mertz --- 61 of 79, 77.2%, for 666 yds, 10.9 yds/comp, 5 TD's, L-39, 163.85 QBR
=====

Last 2 Games:

Lagway - 11 of 11 for 126 yds.

I'm not saying to bench Mertz, but to shift from the 2 to 1 rotation to a 1 to 1 rotation....

Are we getting better, or are we just playing chumps? And, even if we are improving, looking at the schedule, will it matter?

Methinks reality slaps us in the face starting Saturday night in Knoxville. I will be shocked if we win more than 2 more games and not surprised if we end up 3-9 or 4-8. Brutal schedule for an average team = a losing record.

Whether he wins a few or not, discussions concerning Sling Blades future at UF will continue.

Other than poor play calling, one of our glaring problems are our secondary getting beat on a regular basis. I watched the Jaguars today and thought, OMG!!! Am I watching the Gators? They gave up two easy TDs up by 14 by getting beat deep twice in a span of 5 minutes.

I have to say that the Swamp was on fire last night. Of course we won and that was a bit of a surprise but the crowd was on it all night and one of the best in recent years. I try to come back every year for a game but my kids can't wait for another trip to The Swamp...it was an experience they won't forget! Go Gators!
Swamp has been surprisingly live the last 2 years.

Maybe I'm just too old, but that constant pounding music is just too much for me. You can't even talk to the person next to you without shouting. And it never stops.

Agree. sadgator’s no old fart, but the blaring hip hop and sound effect stuff is a bit manufactured. It is annoying and doesn’t seem organic.

sadgator fondly remembers when we created our own sounds and didn’t need cues for when to cheer.

The 2024 season in review, so far, and putting things in perspective....

Ranked Opponents:
UF 17 - 41 #6 scUM (+24)
UF 20 - 33 #15 aTm (+13)
UF 37 - 74 Ranked Opp's

UF VS Unranked Opponents:
UF 45 - 7 Samford (-38)
UF 45 - 28 MsSt (-17)
UF 24 - 13 UCF (-11)
UF 114 - 48 Chump Opp's

Un-ranked still on the schedule:
UK in SWAMP ---- UK 12 - 13 UGly -- UK 20 - 17 Miss
Does anyone really believe that they beat Kensucky???

@ FSUcks -- Winnable maybe, but certainly not guaranteed @ Talleycrappy...

Ranked still on the schedule:
#8 Tenniso-sea
#5 UGly
#1 Texass
#13 LSUcks
#9 Ole Piss

Even IF they pull off a minor miracle and beat the 2 un-ranked opponents for 5 wins, does anyone think that they can beat any of those ranked teams to get to 6 wins and make a Bluebonnet type bowl???
=====

Back-in-the-Day History for the young wipper-snappers....

The Bluebonnet Bowl was an annual college football bowl game played in Houston, Texas. A civic group was appointed by the Houston Chamber of Commerce Athletics Committee in 1959 to organize the bowl game. It was held at Rice Stadium from 1959 through 1967, and again in 1985 and 1986. The game was played in the Astrodome from 1968 through 1984, as well in 1987. The game was discontinued following the 1987 season due to poor ticket sales and lack of a title sponsor.

1982 #19 UF 24 - 28 #12 Ar-kansas

My very humble opinion is we will win at least 1 more and possibly 2 more. Although our defense played much better against UCF, it's still UCF.
