NIT, here we come

Senior center John Egbunu took part in pregame warmups before Florida’s game against South Carolina. “He was excited,” White said. “He had a little sweat. It was fun in the locker room there for 10 seconds.” The 6-foot-11 Egbunu, though, is still dealing with swelling in his surgically repaired knee following non-contact workouts and won’t be cleared for contact until he can make it through a workout without swelling. …

Nice win today. Baylor’s got athletes and Drew can coach. Unbelievable win for UK. I’m pretty sure Calipari is wearing a windbreaker to go at Huggins. I wonder if they hate each other?

On the topic of Gator hoops, good weekend for David Lee’s wife. She won 1.8 million in australia. And she takes pics like this:

Nice work David Lee!

Losing to three shitty teams, two at home, does not a good RPI make.
Losing at home to Loyola of Chicago was embarrassing. The losses to Clemson & South Carolina don't help either, but they've beaten some really good teams as well. Tough schedule down the stretch and they need to win more than half to get in the Dance, IMO. But it would be nice if they could win most or all to get a higher seed.

Agree with all of this. Ten SEC regular games left.

Unless we can get our act together, this is going to be another pissed away game against a lower end SEC team

That was about as bad a last five minutes of basketball as I have ever seen.

Back on the NCAA bubble

They absolutely SUCKED against Georgia. The last 1/2 of the 2nd half was probably the worst they've played all year. Dominated inside all game, missed a ton of easy, wide open shots and took a whole lot of bad shots. Pitiful. Looking at the remaining schedule, we have Kentucky, South Carolina, Auburn Tennessee, Alabama twice, LSU, Vandy and Georgia again. If we can't beat a lower tier Georgia team, how are we going to win half or more of the games left?

We are not. Oh, the guys will win some games. And lose some more. Bubble team the rest of the season. At best. And then an early out in both tournaments.

The real problem is our backhalf of the schedule is very difficult. We are 6-3 in conf and need 11 wins to make tourney. Hard to see 5 wins in the last 9 games. These bad losses keep piling up. It will be bubble watch the rest of the season. Im thinking 4-5 in last 9 meaning we will need some wins in sect

I think a top 4 seed is probably out of the question with this team now. At least we should be in the tourney however.

It is going to take a 5-4 finish to get even a 7 or 8 seed. Do you see five more wins, with the way this team is playing?

Weren't you on here a year ago, at about this point in the season last year, telling everyone how our bad guard play was going to make it impossible to make a tournament run? And don't try to respond laying it all off on Kasey Hill. You were on here bitching about both pgs.

Who put a bee in your bonnet? You that upset about the loss to the point that you want to lay into me?

What a childish little ass.

I hope you are right. But as I look at the rest of the schedule, I am having a hard time naming five sure wins.
That's the problem. I see no sure wins, but no sure losses either. This team has such a slim margin for error that they can beat anybody and also lose to almost anybody.

I just don’t get where you get your confidence to make all these categorical statements, given that you’ve made them in the past and been dead wrong.

Buddy, if you want to relive the Kasey Hill days, from last year, have at it.

Me, I am going with Chris Chiozza of this year. Who is having one of the best seasons by a Florida point guard. Ever.

I’m not arguing who’s better. You were right that Chiozza turned out better (even last year, this year there’s no comparison, although you did say that Hill wasn’t one of the best 10 pgs in the SEC and he ended up 2nd team all league). I’m saying that you had abandoned that by mid season last year and were on here saying that both of them were not good enough to get us deep into the tourney. You don’t remember bitching on here about their lack of assists in a game where we shot like 20 percent as a team and they scored about half of our baskets? My point is that your categorical statements are based on speculation. You might end up correct. But you could be correct in a prediction that it will be cloudy next Thursday and it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything but guessing.

Just why are you reliving last year? I don't get it.

This team is usually very good offensively. Probably one of the best ever at Florida. One big reason the the PG play.

On defense we struggle. Last year Devin Robinson, Justin Leon and Kasey Hill were all excellent defenders. They were not that consistent on offense. This year we are much better on offense, but not nearly consistent enough on defense.

I'm much more comfortable with Chiozza at point than Hill. But we do miss Robinson and Leon on defense, especially the boards. You would think with all the great shooters we have on this team we wouldn't have so many nights where almost all of them are off. But we rely so much on the outside shot, that's where we're living and dying. And when teams get in our face and make us take difficult shots, most times they refuse to drive by the defenders and take it to the basket.

Agreed. Was just talking to my dad about that earlier.

It’s tough for us to be physical because we don’t have the size right now in the post and we go through weird streaks. Sometimes Egor is on fire and when he’s not he’s ice cold.

And Chiozza gets beaten up so much in some of these games that he’s worn out by the last 5-7 minutes, then our offense is done (usually).

And I feel like we don’t commit to a real style of play. Sure, every team these days runs the P&R but then they use it to set up their offense.

Like the motion. And billy used to like to use the P&R to get to big guys in the post...but White? I’m not sure. It feels like Duke’s motion sometimes and other times it feels like street ball.

I’d also like to see some 3/4 court press sometimes. I think we have the talent and speed.

I would love to see us press some. Cheeze would be incredibly disruptive.

Right? But again, I feel like physically so much is out on him now that it would wear him down even more.

But man I’d love to see us press more.

Do we ever run a 1-3-1?

Either someone has hacked his account, he’s PUI, he’s been mind-melded by Instas Grey aliens, or the one of the 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse has started riding

We don’t have the bodies to press. Many of our starters are already having to play too many minutes due to lack of depth.

It gets better.

A friend of mine hired me as his assistant coach. I’m kind of like the Jerry West to his Pat Riley.

Also, if it’s pst 4pm CST, I’m p obablu at least somewhat inhebroated.

FWIW ESPN Bracketology has us as a #6 seed right now, which to me seems very generous.
