Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

But even when down 30-0, they refused to play him for a series in the Las Vegas Bowl !
Why ?
Was Miller going to ignite some record breaking comeback ?
Why wouldn't you check Brown out in a game situation; you already knew Miller was a dud !

But we don't know do we - no open practices.
Two days of L V Bowl practice & Miller named the starter - & Gators got embarrassed !

Ocala,

I think that you are missing the point - Brown has "thrown in the towel" on Napier & it doesn't look he will be in Spring Football Practice.
If Napier didn't think Brown was ready for live action, why would he throw him in a bowl game against a superior opponent? To further damage his confidence about not being ready? Besides, Miller didn't play terribly and he needed the experience himself. Changing QB's wasn't going to change the outcome of the game. How many other position players for Florida were playing poorly in the bowl game and weren't replaced by other guys who haven't played all year? None! What evidence do you have that Brown has given up on Napier? Just because he's on the baseball roster doesn't prove that. I haven't read anything that he's said that indicates he's given up on playing QB for Florida. It's speculation on your part.

I think @instaGATOR said Brown should or could have given up on Napier but I might have that wrong. Speculation of course. The baseball stuff makes me wonder how serious is he though unless football practice overrides the baseball stuff most times. If he is serious he should be at least 3rd in the order at the end of the spring. If not I don't have much hope he will ever be a starting QB here.

Ocala,

don't think we watched the same game; Miller played every offensive snap & Gators only scored 3 points !
That wasn't on Miller. He was 13-22 for 180 yards. No interceptions, no fumbles. He was forced to run out of the pocket a lot, carrying the ball 13 times for 45 yards and was sacked 4 times. The O-line was terrible and the entire team didn't match Oregon State's intensity. Changing QB's would have made zero difference.

Agree !
Changing QB's would have made zero difference.
We will never know if that is true.

With the product that we put out on the field, I'm not so sure that Bryce Young or CJ Stroud would have made a huge difference.

I will eat my words if Milller excels here but he screams blue chip bust to me in his 2 appearances in game conditions. A good one can make stuff happen and not be so off with his passes and trying to give it to the defense multiple times. Just hope Mertz clearly beats him out or we are in even bigger trouble.

Mind of Mike: Jaden Rashada, Cormani McClain, and NIL Demands

So I’ve been told Florida and 2023 QB Jaden Rashada have parted ways as they came to an impasse when it comes to NIL money. Now of course all this could change.

And as of right now 2023 CB Cormani McClain is in Boulder visiting Colorado and Deion Sanders after refusing to sign with Miami in the Early Signing Period due to NIL and other demands.

And for Miami and Florida fans, say good luck and wish them well. You don’t want these guys.

I'm not saying these are bad kids or bad families.

But there comes a time when the demands of a family and agents are just too much to meet and deal with.

And that’s what’s happening here. I’ve been told Miami bent and bent for McClain, and they could bend even more who knows, but the demands kept coming.

And with the Gators Collective and Rashada I’ve been told a ridiculous ask from Rashada’s agent forced Florida to simply say no thanks.

About the only school that will accept Cormani McClains high school credits. I'm sure that's the reason Bama told him to piss off. Now he has Deion to save him from going to any of his classes.

Three Potential Transfer Destinations for LSU QB Walker Howard

https://www.si.com/college/lsu/foot...ransfer-destinations-for-lsu-qb-walker-howard

LSU freshman quarterback Walker Howard has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal and will surely have a running list of potential suitors. Who will win the Howard sweepstakes?

Here we dove into three potential landing spots for Howard and why they could be a fit:
Good article, Jeff. I would like to get Howard, but at this point don't have my hopes up.

Fever,
Look at AR & Miller - with no QB Coach; napier only coaches & plays 1 QB.

That was me thinking if he hasn't been put in front of Engel by the end of spring I doubt he ever becomes a starter here.

Hopefully if they aren't going after Howard much they take a ittle money and get one of these fast ready to go WRs in the portal before its too late.

Top-ranked 2023 CB Cormani McClain visiting with CU Buffs

On Friday, college football analyst Mike Farrell sent out a tweet saying McClain is “visiting the Buffs.” The specifics of his visit weren’t made clear, but the Lakeland High School (Florida) five-star appears interested in Colorado and Deion Sanders.

It was also reported by On3’s Josh Newberg that the entire Miami coaching staff was at McClain’s Lakeland High School on Friday. McClain, however, was not present, the report stated. This would suggest to me, at least, that Farrell’s info is likely true.

During the Under Armour All-America Game earlier this month, McClain said he plans to sign somewhere on Jan. 15.

Paco,

I have been guilty of trashing Mertz even though I know nothing about him.

AR was mobile, when he wanted to be, which seemed to lessen as the season progressed. If we can rebuild our OL & have a decent run game, Mertz doesn't have to be lightning in a bottle like FSU's Jordan Travis.

LSU Transfer QB Walker Howard isn't coming to UF, so we will basically have Miller & Mertz competing for QB1. Brown better off to stick with Baseball, as Napier has no ability or desire to develop him.

You stated that Ricky Pearsall was coming back & WR, IMO, is one of the positions where a True FR (Mizell, Jean, & Wilson) can contribute, especially if they are Early Entry & work hard over the summer developing rapport with whoever plays QB.

Even if our passing game is no better than last year's, that, along with our run game, will give us at least some sort of offense.
So Napier has no ability or desire to develop Brown? Hmmm. You sound like you "think" you are an expert on this topic. I'd suggest sending in your resume to UF athletic dept and let them take a look.

Just a FYI....

Napier's 2023 (7) Transfers, so far:

2019 #3 QB-pp Graham Mertz 6-3 216 **** - Wis *** xfer - Madison, KS
2022 P - 164 of 288, 57.3% for 2,136 Yds, 7.5 Ave, 19 TD's, 10 Ints, QBR 52.5
2022 R - 50 for -40 Yds, -0.8 YPC, 2 TD's, ?? LPF's -- 23 Sacks
#13 UF 2022 SoS
#35 Wis 2022 SoS
But Graham will surely do much better against the weak/slow SEC Defenses, right??? 🙄

2020 #54 OG Micah Muzzccua 6-5 335 *** - Baylor - Baltimore, MD
2020 #31 OT Damieon George Jr - 6-5.5 348 *** - UA - Houston TX
-----
2018 #2 LB Teradja Mitchell 6-2 232 **** - tOSU - VaBch, VA
2022 #91 LB Deuce Spurlock 6-2 200 *** - Mich - Madison, AL
2020 #56 DT Cam'Ron Jackson 6-5 271 *** - Mem - Haynesville, LA
2021 #117 DL/DE Caleb Banks 6-6 255 *** - UL - Southfield, MI

The 2022 stats for the #50 WR per ESPN Top 50 Stats:

#50 Matt Landers - Ark - 47 for 901 Yds, 19.2 Yds/Rec, L-59, 8 TD's

#127 Ricky Pearsall - UF - 33 for 661, 20.0 Yds/Rec, L-52, 5 TD's (13 Games) AzSt xfer
Ricky's stats went up markedly AFTER Justin was injured out.

#177 Justin Shorter - UF - 29 for 577, 19.9 Yds/Rec, L-75, 2 TD's (9 Games injured out)

But all receivers were dependent on the BN offense / play-calling, and the QB's choices on his throws.

Those 2 items it seems to me, affected Shorters ED/NFL choice, Whittemore's & Reynolds Portal choice, and the Wittemore recruit brother's flip to MsSt.

Renolds - 11 for 244 Yds, 22.2 Yds/Rec, L-74, 2 TD's. (8 Games)
Whittemore - 4 for 87 Yds, 21.75 Yds/Rec, L-33, 0 TD's. (7 Games)
IMO - Both of those Gator recruits were chitted by bringing in a xfer WR, and feeding him the ball.

But opinions will vary, and I'm just fine with that, but at least I include some stats with my opinions....

Looks like Pearsall ran some receivers off. I wonder how that happened?

Former Baylor interior offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua, & all the other transfers have been announced by the University of Florida and are in town ready for the spring semester.

Former Alabama OT Damieon George not on that list, but who knows ?

As one poster on this board pointed out, maybe there's some magic in the Gainesville air & George will be eligible for the Spring Semester.

He should be. I think portal transfers have until this Friday to get here unlike high school recruits where it was Friday last week to be enrolled but they could write things up where a high school recruit could be here tomorrow.

George was One of Five Bama OL to Enter the Portal

Quick thoughts on George entering the portal:
At one time, George was considered one of Alabama’s most promising young offensive linemen. In 2021, he saw 268 snaps at right tackle while playing in 12 games, three of which were starts. Unfortunately, struggles in pass protection in the Iron Bowl led to his benching, and we didn’t see him again that season.

The 6-foot-6, 333-pound mauler moved inside to guard last spring and ran with the first-team offense while starting right guard Emil Ekiyor Jr. was out, but that didn’t translate to playing time in the fall. He only played in the first two games, and we hadn’t seen him on offense since the 20 snaps he played against Utah State back in the season opener.

With a lot of interior linemen at this level it comes down to work ethic and desire. All these guys are big, strong and started out highly rated. But the ones that stand out are those who put in the work. O'Cyrus Torrence is a perfect example. 3-star with few offers who worked himself into a first team AA. Hopefully George, and other guys transferring in, will have a chip on their shoulders to prove they are big-time worthy. That could be said of any player on our roster who went through this past season, IMO.

Supposedly, Auburn has also jumped on the Walker Howard bandwagon.

Auburn football: Is another LSU transfer QB in the cards?

Walker Howard entered the portal last week after spending one year in Baton Rouge as a member of the class of 2022.

He was a 4-star recruit out of high school and had offers from multiple big programs, including several around the SEC like Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Howard visited both Ole Miss and TCU this weekend according to 247 Sports.

Rumor has it that Howard was supposed to visit a third school this weekend, though it hasn’t been named.

Has Hugh Freeze and co. decided to go after the former LSU quarterback? With only three days left to enroll in classes and become eligible for spring practice on the Plains, we’ll get our answer soon enough.
https://flywareagle.com/2023/01/15/auburn-football-lsu-qb-transfer-cards/

Multiple outlets saying Walker Howard visited TCU Saturday after leaving Ole Miss.

Why is everyone calling an undersized 4* QB who didn't get off the bench while at LSU an Elite QB ?

Damn, did he win a Nattie or an SEC title or a Heisman & I didn't even notice ?

IMO, if Gators were in the mix, we would get a visit from Howard.

None of the other Transfer Portal Players hid, & Howard announced his visits to Ole Miss & TCU, so don't see a reason to keep a Howard visit to UF anonymous - if he made one.

Why would he commit to a school without looking the head coach in the eye & sitting down with the QB Coach & the OC ?

Oh, he might want to talk to someone about NIL$$$, too.

Since we didn't give it to Rashada, maybe we're signing a $13MM NIL$$$ deal with Howard.

I don't live in G'ville so I don't know for sure if he's on Campus.

But I don't think that any of that has happened so far.

One of the top players in the transfer portal is officially on TCU’s campus, sources confirmed to HornedFrogBlitz on Saturday. LSU transfer quarterback Walker Howard officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Friday and TCU immediately became a favorite for the former four-star.

Howard visited Ole Miss on Friday and left Oxford on Saturday morning. Howard is expected to visit with TCU this afternoon and leave early Sunday morning.

TCU’s quarterback room is also in need of a boost after the departure of Max Duggan to the NFL and Sam Jackson to the transfer portal – he ultimately committed to California. Chandler Morris, the team’s Week 1 starter, does return. Aiding TCU in its pursuit of Howard is former LSU tight end Jack Bech, who transferred to Fort Worth earlier this offseason.
