FSU just lost their third straight game @ Duke.

Alonso's hand looked bad. Hope he's ok. He's been our best hitter by a mile. Shore's greatness continues. Good to see the young guys coming up with the big hits.
I didnt get why we were stealing and bunting with 1 out in the 8th with their starter struggling. The steal worked out, even though he should have been out. But why give away the second out to get the guy from second to third?

Sully said he had the bullpen warming up in the 8th but he walked by Shore in the dugout and Shore told him "I'm finishing it." Love that kid.
Yeah they have lost to JU, Florida Gulf Coast and Duke all in a row. Not exactly a murder's row of teams but based on how the pollsters have treated a very mediocre FSU team all year they will probably move up in the polls. They have been way overrated all year long. They have played themselves out of a Super Regional host spot but they will get a Regional.
Right now their RPI is @ # 15. If they lose the series to both Duke and Miami, they will drop out of the top 20 RPI. That will lessen thier chances to host a regional considerably, even with the ACC bias we see in the selection committee.
Alonso has a small fracture in his hand. They're putting a splint on it and they hope to have him back for the regional.
Vandy was unhittable. Our batters looked foolish. And they figured out every single one of our pitchers.

They lost the series to Duke. They have now lost 4 straight. They might need a win today against Duke and to win the series against Miami just to host a Regional.
Brutal injury to Alonso. He's probably our most important player. I wonder if Hicks is going to get all his abs, or f we have anyone else that can play first base? Schwarz maybe? Then Vasquez could dh. Hicks is good defensively but he hasn't hit at all.
That's good. This lineup can't afford a hole at 1b. Maldonado's been coming on. Young guys are going to have to keep hitting. How does vandy get all this pitching? Their guys come from everywhere, New England, southeast, California. They are tough.
The coach, Tim Corbin is a great pitching recruiter. As good as Sully imo.
During the broadcast yesterday, the announcers went through all the first round Vandy pitchers has started on the mound since Tim Corbin became in coach in 2003. Like Sully, Corbin was a Clemson assistant under Jack Leggett. Tim and Kevin are close friends. Corbin has had something like 10 first round draft choice pitchers, all doing well in the majors.
After being a doormat in baseball, Corbin has turned Vandy into a baseball powerhouse.
Great win today. Faedo had 2 bad innings but the bats came through. With Carolina beating Texas A&M, we maintain a game lead over the Gamecocks and 1/2 game over the Aggies.

Florida is the only team that controls its destiny. Sweep the Tigers and the Gators would win the regular-season title. To win the league title, LSU needs to sweep Florida, for South Carolina to lose a game and Texas A&M and Mississippi State to each lose twice.

It will be interesting to see if Puk takes advantage of his opportunity at being the Friday night starter. He might make himself the first pick in the draft.
I think the pressure of being #1 with such high expectations is getting to these guys. The atmosphere at LSU is great, as they support baseball way better than we do. But maybe if we don't win the SEC and drop from #1, the team can relax and start playing the kind of baseball they're capable of.
That was a disappointing performance last night. Errors, poor pitching, two blown bases loaded opportunities. Just about everything went wrong. Yet we still lose by one run.

If they get swept by LSU, they could finish 5th in the overall SEC standings. They looked terrible last night and again so far today. I think there's no doubt they will drop from #1 rankings, but still should be a top 8 national seed. But if they expect to make it to Omaha they've got to figure some things out. Too passive at the plate and pitching is showing inconsistencies.
I expected to lose at least 2 in this series but Faedo is pitching against some bum for them in the last game, there's no excuse to lose all 3.
Ill never trust this team in the post season anyway until they show me why to. They underachieve this time of year time after time, but I don't think this series has anything to do with it.

Florida scored two runs in the top of the first. Faedo promptly gave up a home run in the bottom
We are the fourth seed in Hoover. We play the winner of the LSU/Goobe...errr..Tennessee game from Tuesday.
Like I said earlier, no excuse to lose all 3 and we probably wouldn't have if the weather didn't help LSU and take out our starter. It took all that and the worst defensive inning maybe in the 9 years of Sully being there to lose by just one run. The thing that will be interesting is to see how serious we take the SEC Tournament to get on a roll to help with seeding. I figured a few weeks ago we would just get out of there fast on purpose holding a top seed but now there is a reason to win some games and get going
LSU was hot and they certainly caught a break getting to see a grand total of 4 innings from Shore and Puk. Glad to get the last game.
