Our guys are looking a little tired. Glad they have an extra day of rest. Be interested to see how Sully handle the rotation.

if we get past LSU (assuming they beat UT), we probably face MSU, assuming they get past the Alabama/UK winner. Or it might be UK. So, we might have to play and beat two of the three teams that won a series against us.,

Only in the SEC can you be the #1 team in the country and the 4th seed in your conference tourney.

It's weird to me that Puk would pitch 2 innings then come out with an upset stomach in what was effectively a conference championship elimination game. I bet you couldn't have dragged Shore off that mound in the same situation.

Maybe he had the sharts. After Adam Lane, the PR staff probably put his their down.

This could be the case.

As far as our postseason chances, we are one of the best five or six teams, but without Alonso, we'll have to outplay some teams that are as talented as us.

One reason why the team seems to play better behind Shore.

There is a good chance Alonso will be back for the Regionals. Certainly the Supers.

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt on injuries. And Sully did have someone warming up, so maybe he was in really rough shape and Sully just asked him for a few innings, but it was a strange exit. He was throwing 90+ and pitching pretty well. Then, after he got pulled he was over there on the bench smiling, laughing, joking around. It was just odd.

It's pretty disappointing that we dropped all the way from 1st to 4th in the SEC, would have been nice to win the regular season title. We need to get a couple of wins in the SEC tourney to get our mojo back.

There's no dominant team this year, in spite of all the announcers and pundits raving over how loaded Florida is with all the pro prospects on our roster. I just hate to see us getting into the Mike Martin/FSU mold of always having really good teams and never being able to win the WCS. We had loaded teams a few years ago with Zunino, Tucker, Randall, Johnson, Paco, etc. and couldn't get it done. I really don't care about the SEC tournament, but expect the regionals and supers to be very competitive and just hope our guys can rise up to the occasion. New polls today have us still #1 in Coaches/USA Today, but down to #4 in D1.com and #2 in RPI behind Louisville. Texas A & M, Miss. St., Miami and Louisville are all getting votes for #1. Even the group behind the top 5 can get on a hot streak and win it all - Vandy, LSU, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Virginia.

From the Sun:

Junior Logan Shore was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year and is one of eight Florida baseball players to earn recognition, the league announced Monday.

Shore and junior reliever Shaun Anderson were named to the All-SEC First Team. Sophomore shortstop Dalton Guthrie and catcher Mike Rivera and junior first baseman Peter Alonso were named to the second team. Florida and Mississippi State tied for the most selections on the top two teams with five players selected.

Third baseman Jonathan India and second baseman Deacon Liput were recognized as members of the Freshman All-SEC Team while Guthrie, Rivera and junior center fielder Buddy Reed were named to the All-Defensive Team.

Shore ended the regular season with a 10-0 record and 2.33 ERA in 14 starts. He has won a school record 15 straight decisions dating back to May 14, 2015. Shore’s 28 career wins ties for the second most in school history, three behind the all-time record of 31 set by Marc Valdez (1991-93).

Anderson has the third-most appearances in the league (28) and posted a 0.96 ERA with 10 saves in the regular season. In his last 10 outings, Anderson has not allowed a run and he gave up just two runs in 20.2 innings pitched in conference play. On the year, he’s racked up 51 strikeouts to just six walks in 37.2 innings.

Alonso finished the regular season as the Gators’ triple crown leader. He ranks eighth in the SEC with a .352 batting average and leads the team with 47 RBI and nine home runs. Alonso’s slugging percentage of .581 ranks fourth in the league. In SEC action, he led the team with a .319 average. He has missed the last five games due to a fracture in his hand but is expected back for NCAA Regional action.

Guthrie ranks 10th in the conference with 73 hits in the regular season and is second on the Gators with a .329 average. He leads the team with 24 multi-hit games on the year. Guthrie has also played excellent defense in his first season as Florida’s starting shortstop with 149 assists and just five errors. He has not had an error in 24 straight games.

Rivera earned All-SEC Second Team honors for the second straight year after anchoring the Gators both behind the plate and with his bat. His All-Defensive honors were the first of his career. Offensively, Rivera is second on the team with 45 RBI and is tied with Alonso for the team lead with nine home runs. Behind the dish, he has thrown out 12 of 22 runners on the base paths while serving as the primary catcher.

Liput and India stepped in from day one to solidify the Gators infield. Liput finished the season with a .284 average and started 54 of 55 games at second base for the Gators. He had 31 RBI and 17 multi-hit games on the year.

India was consistent at the plate all season for Florida, ranking third on the team with a .301 average. He is tied with Alonso with a team best 14 doubles. In league play, he was second on the team with a .313 average and had a team-best 24 RBI in SEC games.

Reed earned All-Defensive recognition for the second year in a row. He’s started 53 of 55 games in center field for Florida and has not made an error this season.

Alonso, Kowar progressing

O'Sullivan said Alonso (broken hand) and freshman right-handed pitcher Jackson Kowar (collapsed lung) are both progressing from their medical issues.

Kowar has been out since early May, while Alonso has been out since being hit on the hand by a pitch against Vanderbilt on May 13.

“Spoke to Pete last night and this morning,” O'Sullivan said. “(His) swelling has gone down considerably. He feels great. And I could anticipate unless there's any hangups that he would be OK for regionals.”

O'Sullivan said Kowar needs to regain his strength after going through a serious non-baseball related medical issue, “He's gained about 5-6-7 pounds in the last week,” O'Sullivan said. “We would not ask him to do anything before he gets his strength and weight back, and I think he's closer to doing that, maybe another week or two. But we would anticipate, the longer we play, the better the chance that he would have an opportunity to pitch for us.”

This looked like Sully's best team at the start of the year but this team going into the post season probably wouldn't be in his top 3. The starting pitching is good, but our lineup isn't close to last year's. Last year's team was spectacular defensively as well.

Unless Schwarz all of a sudden catches fire, we're going to have to out fight good teams in close games to keep moving on in the post-season. That hasn't really been our strong suit, but maybe this year's team is the one to get it done.

Rumor is Sully to Texas... UT takes their Baseball seriously... They pay their Coach & have a Top-10 Stadium...not to mention Longhorn fans appreciate Baseball, unlike most Gators... It will be really sad if Foley doesn't give Sully a huge raise & a majorly upgraded, or brand new, Baseball stadium...

Ecr, we get it. You want Sully to go to Texas. You have 3 posts on this board all of them about Sully possibly going to your Longhorns. You will have more fun discussing this on your Longhorn Board. Unlike UT fans, gator fans have a Regional to follow right now as the #1 overall seed in the tournament.

Domgator...
I was born in Gainesville, live in Gainesville, & Bleed Orange & Blue...
I was cheering Gator legends Kerwin Bell & Emmitt Smith as a kid, & went to Galen Hall's Football Camp as a youngster. I have the Gator Head Logo tattooed on my back...but yeah moron, I'm a Longhorn...LMAO @ U a-hole...

This team is funny at times. One game they play like a Pro Baseball team then the next day they look like a Juco College team. I don't get it.

One thing I would note to everyone freaking out about the lineup, which includes me, is that we have been facing really good pitching and well coached defense for about a month solid. I would not be shocked to see our lineup break loose in the regionals and even the supers.

Exactly so. Plus we have been playing a lot on the road recently. Getting a home stretch will help

After five Florida players were selected Thursday on the first day of the annual Major League Baseball draft, three more Gators were picked Friday.

Pitcher Shaun Anderson was taken by Boston in the third round at No. 88. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA and 13 saves this season.

Junior left-handed pitcher Scott Moss was picked by Cincinnati in the fourth round (108). Moss is 3-0 this season with a 1.59 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched. Moss was sidelined his first two seasons at Florida by Tommy John surgery.

Pitcher Kirby Snead, a Santa Fe High School grad, was selected in the 10th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. The junior lefty has a 2.78 ERA in 39 appearances this season, with one save and 33 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings of work.

The Florida players selected Thursday: A.J Puk (No. 6 pick of first round by Oakland), Dane Dunning (29th pick by Washington), Logan Shore (47th pick by Oakland), Budy Reed (48th pick by San Diego) and Peter Alonso (64th by the New York Mets).

2016 Baseball Attendence. Remember when some moronic FSU fan (I repeat myself) asserted that Florida does not support baseball enough to deserve to be on the national stage.

O'Sullivan talks possible baseball facility upgrades

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Over the last year a lot has been made about Florida's lack of facility upgrades in baseball. Many analysts, including a few prominent national ones, believed the lack of progress since 2007 could lead coach Kevin O'Sullivan to consider a job elsewhere.

Reports surfaced last year that Clemson was interested. O'Sullivan slammed the door shut on any talk about that opening. This year the Texas job opened up. Again, O'Sullivan brushed off the idea he would be interested.

Part of the reason this time around might just be that Florida has made a commitment to him to upgrade the facilities after Florida earned a national seed in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in the last eight years. While the Gators don't have plans firmly ironed out, baseball is about to get a big facelift.

"It's all preliminary right now. Talked about a bunch of things," O'Sullivan said Wednesday. "We talked about re-doing the locker room, team room, a pro locker room. Talked about a roof, suites up top, a bunch of things. Obviously everything is preliminary right now. I know (athletics director) Jeremy (Foley) is committed to doing what we need to do to be successful and that's all we can ask for."

What would O'Sullivan like to see happen most?

"I haven't gotten that far. I'm going to let (executive associate athletics director) Chip (Howard) kind of handle those things and put it together," O'Sullivan said. "That's his responsibility. I just know they are committed to doing what they need to do, and we're awfully excited about that and they're going to make a huge commitment to us."

Back in Omaha for the second time in as many years, O'Sullivan will look to put one more feather in the cap of his retiring athletics director. A national championship in baseball has proven very elusive for the Gators, who have twice made the championship series.

O'Sullivan can further add to Foley's legacy -- and really establish his own -- with a productive next two weeks in Omaha. Regardless, the commitment Florida is ready to make to improve its facilities has O'Sullivan feeling as bullish about being in Gainesville and coaching the Gators as he has ever been.

"I'm just excited being here and I plan on being here," O'Sullivan said. "My goal all along was to start my career here and end it here. And that's what I intend to do."

Our attendance is ranked higher than I thought it would be, but we're still only 8th in the SEC. With the product that is put on the field every year, the program should be getting better fan support, especially considering how reasonable ticket prices are.

With the size of our stadium, even if we sold out every game we would only move up one spot in the SEC.

But I agree with your point. If I lived in Gainesville, I would be at every night game. I cannot sit too long in the sun, so day games are out.

The attendance figures are very interesting, esp. the first 5 teams are located in "poor" states

"Poor" people usually make bad money decisions. Yes, no excuse to not pack a stadium because one made wise financial decisions. And no, it's not mostly low income or poor decision makers attending games in those states. I'm just saying "poor" people have a tendency to use money poorly. I bet tobacco, alcohol, fast food sales, etc are higher in "poor" states. I also bet if there was a way to record it, illegal drugs are purchased more in poor states. I don't even know why I'm pointing this out but it is what it is.

I would bet that per capita, rich people drink and do as many drugs as poor people. For the most part, I think that poor people aren't poor because they throw their money away on fast food, liquor, cable tv and ballgames. Poor people could deny themselves all of those things and throw that money into interest bearing bonds or a mutual fund, and in 10 years, they still would have squat. Bottom line is that it's hard to keep pace with rising costs (houses, healthcare and education) when your salary sucks. Might as well be drunk or drugging at a ballgame.

One thing that I think is CRAZY is working class people who buy Personal Seat Licenses for NFL season tickets at $10,000/per.

Another thing I think is CRAZY is that Puk was drafted 40 spots higher than Shore. I guess 6'7 lefties that throw 98 are pretty rare, but if I had to bet on who makes an mlb roster first, I'd bet on Shore easy. Maybe a more interesting bet would be who ends up the better mlb pitcher.

It's been said many times here, that Puk was drafted on potential. A lefty that throws 98 mph has a VERY high ceiling. However, if he doesn't significantly improve his control, he will never make it to the show.

I think a lot of his problems are mental.

As much as I like watching him when he was on, I am glad he is moving on.

Shore, Dunning & Faedo have pitched very well in Omaha. It's the bats that have failed big time. Taking too many called 3rd strikes, swinging at too many balls out of the zone. Just not hitting the ball solid.

Agreed. Might need a new hitting coach

Get Coastal Carolina's hitting coach.

That said, I think that the root of the problem is at the top.

Yea. It is terrible that Sully has coached us for nine years, been to the CWS five of those years.

Go talk to FSU fans, or really the fans of just about any other program. They would love to have him.

Speaking of FSU fans, most of them recognize this kind of performance. They had to put up with it from Mike Martin, when Mike Martin was good.

Don't be a nole. Not saying he isn't a good coach. But from what I know about him, he is not going to get us to the promised land without making some changes in himself. He is the only coach in history to go two and a BBQ with the number one team TWICE. There is a reason for that.
