Carry over to Gator 2023-24 Basketball :-)

Another article that's annoying to the iG, this one is from SI's Joe Rondone....

Golden is still looking for another PG, (PG Curtis Givens III 6-2 170), while he's seemingly over-looking a PG that's already on the roster (PG Denzel Aberdeen 6-5 189 So)....
Note: As a HS Sr, Aberdeen went for 27 Pts in the FL 7A State Championship game.

"Givens exemplifies a larger frame which he uses on both ends of the floor effectively. His length presents a string defensive upside, making the likelihood of Florida’s pursuit even greater." (that's compared to a couple of other HS recruits)

Aberdeen 6-5 189
Clayton Jr 6-2 195
Givens III 6-2 170 (I guess he's the largest midget of those 3 recruits)
😉
Do these writers ever consult a current roster before puking out their drivel?

"Ideally, the model is to equip the roster with a dynamic one-two punch in the backcourt similar to Jamarree Bouyea and Khalil Shabazz in the final year of Golden’s tenure at San Francisco."

While Todd already has a PG--SG combination on his roster, and working together they won the FL 7A State Championship. (PG Aberdeen and SG Kuge, both were 4-stars)
To me, recruiting someone new, is secondary to a coaching staff's ability to DEVELOP what they already have on the roster.....

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to have Givens be a Gator, but I'd like him as a developmental depth piece behind Denzel and Clayton III, at least to begin with....

Freshman Newbees, PF/C Alex Condon 6-11 230 is 2" taller,
but PF Thomas Haugh 6-9 200 seems to have longer arms and bigger hands,
just going by the picture in this nice article....

They are part of the much needed rebuild of the Gator front court for 2023-24.

PF EJ Jarvis 6-8 220 Grad-Sr - Yale xfer
PF/C Tyrese Samuel 6-10 235 Grad-Sr - Seton Hall xfer
C Micha Handlogten 7-1 227 So - Marshall xfer
And the returning So PF/C Aleks Szymczyk 6-10 240

Taken on the whole, at least on paper, that looks like the deepest
and the thickest front court that UF has had in a while....

PF EJ Jarvis 6-8 220 Grad-Sr - Yale xfer (Wash DC)
PF Thomas Haugh 6-9 200 Fr - New Oxford, PA
---
PF/C Tyrese Samuel 6-10 235 Grad-Sr - Seton Hall xfer (Canada)
PF/C Aleks Szymczyk 6-10 240 So - Germany
PF/C Alex Condon 6-11 230 Fr - Australia
---
C Micha Handlogten 7-1 227 So - Marshall xfer (Huntsville, NC)

Two of them are only good for 1 season, xfer Grad-Sr's, but that will still leave them with 4 plus any newbees next year.

This is much needed help for a 1st year Golden team that posted some of the worst rebounding numbers — 285th defensively and 320th on the offensive glass — in the country last season.

PLUS - Golden still has 3 open ships to fill.
IF he doesn't fill them, then he should give those 2 loyal WO's a 1 Yr ship imo.

I think Haugh is underrated. I like this kid.

As 'Talking Season' continues along it's merry path.... 😉

Did you know, according to SI, Florida is suffering with a void at the PG position....
(iG) - Why, because Todd's 2 2022 PG xfers are both gonzo.
Lofton Sr, due to eligibility, Bonham Jr, due to WTF-over???

PG Walter Clayton Jr 6-2 195 Jr - Lake Wales, FL - 2023 Iona xfer-in
2023 MAAC Player of the Year
2023 First-Team All-MAAC (unanimous)
2023 NCAA Stat Champion – .953% Free Throws

Totaled 538 Pt's, 136 Rb's, 103 Ast's, 72 3's, 59 Stl's, starting 31 of 32 games.
Led Iona to regular season and conference tournament titles.
Prep: Bartow, FL 2x 6A Champs
His Initial idiots ranking -- NA -- his xfer ranking **** (coaching development)

PG/SG Denzel Averdeen 6-5 190 So **** - SG Kugel's FL 7A Champ teammate.
Saw time in 12 games as a UF Fr while developing behind a pair of 5th-year xfer-in PG's, and the now xfered-out Bonham.
Scored a season-best 6 Pts vs. UCF in an NIT loss, as others departed.
High-IQ, versatile combo guard who wants the ball in big moments.

Prep:
Rated a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals.
2X Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) all-state team.
Scored 27 points in the 2021 7A state championship game,,,
leading Dr. Phillips to its first state championship in program history.

Helped Dr. Phillips return to the state championship game again in 2022.
Averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists his senior season.
At 6-5 190,
he's also a solid defender against opponents 1-2-3.

So, another PG or 2 for depth/development is okay, but putting others in front of Denzel is not, imo.... Otherwise, Todd should be telling Denzel to GTF-out with all the others that have already bailed...
=====

Just the facts ma'am (as I see them), make of it what you will....

PF CJ Felder stayied loyal to UF when Todd failed to retain MW's two PF recruits, but then he got replaced by Todd's LSU xfer-in, Soph. Alex Fudge. Fudge then departed after just 1 year, while Felder has now also decided to GTF outta 16-17 loser Dodge...

Denzel is the only MW recruit to stay loyal to his UF commit.
So Todd brought in PG's Lofton and Bonham and put both over developing Fr Denzel.
1 Yr Eligible Loftin is now gone, while Bonham (a Jr) dumped on Tood and xfered back out for his Sr season. So Todd brings in another xfer PG (Clayton) and continues to look for more PG's in the portal to put over Denzel (thanks a lot, no good deed goes unpunished).. 🙄

Here's a couple of thoughts, pick one:

1. Coach and develop your existing roster and your own chosen recruits.

2. Or if that's beyond your abilities, xfer in players that someone else has already coached up and developed for you....

Goes for 16-17 Golden and 6-7 Napier, both losers their 1st time around at UF...

Insanity -- Doing the same thing over and over, while expecting different results...
(that that might include the AD, UAA, and UF Admin)

Others that have different opinions is fine with me, so have a go, at me or at the thoughts presented, because that's really what 'Talking Season' is all about. 🤓

A question concerning Gator PG void talked about in an SI article,,, becomes yet another chance for the feveredbrain to go off on the UGly coach and what he is or isn't doing at UGly..... So boringly typical of him... 😴

I guess when you're unable or unwilling to answer the questions posed, you can just go after the coach that chose to GTF-outta Woke-U instead...

Feveredbrain Insanity -- Doing the same thing over and over, while expecting different results...

Insta doesn't GAF about the current Georgia coach, he's made that very clear in his multiple posts about him.

CG-1, you and your fevered buddy apparently can't talk intelligently about the current Gator coach or his current players, his recruits or his xfers, while you continue to attempt to divert the conversation back to the coach that chose to leave this circus....
I'm very amused and
😂 at both of you....

Yes, we are not at your high level of intellectual ability. We are but simple jesters here for your amusement.

Rewarding the in-state HS recruits that commit to UF, to me, is the way to go for long term success.

PG/SG Denzel Aberdeen 6-5 189 So
(he scored 27 Pts in winning the FL 7A Championship Game)

Unlike the the 2 PF's, he stayed with his UF commit, even when the coach recruiting him departed.

DA's reward for his loyalty to UF and his work was, and is:
Todd brought in:
PG Lofton Grad-Sr starter (now eligibility gonzo)
and
PG Bonham Jr
backup (1 Yr > portal exit) to put in front of DA for his Fr season..
That was reasonable for his Fr season, so DA stayed and continues to work.
Plus
CG/SF Will Richard 6-4 206 Jr,
the only TG xfer-in guard that remains on the roster.

So now Todd has already brought in:
CG Walter Clayton Jr 6-2 195 Jr to play PG

And he's attempting to bring in a 2nd PG that just dropped off the 2023 NBA Draft list.
PG Zyon Pullin 6-4 195 5th-Yr Sr

Leaving Denzel (and me) to wonder when, if ever, he will get his shot at the starting PG job.
IF DA's good with that, then so am I, but I just hope that this doesn't lead to DA's portal departure.
And does this kind of portal action over recruits affect the HS recruiting?
(current 24 class has only 1 commit, #25 SG Isaiah Brown 6-5 185 ***)

Somehow this sounds familiar, having these two choices that is....
1. Recruit and coach up your own chosen HS players.
2. Xfer-in guys that someone else has already coached up for you....

Listed in contention for Zyon: UF, Gonzaga, LSU, Mich, and Xavier
"If UF were the destination, he'd work in tandem with CG Walter Clayton Jr. in the 2023-24 season." (article's author doesn't even mention DA)

For Reference - Gator Roster Current Guards:

CG/SF Will Richard 6-4 206 Jr

SG Riley Kugel 6-5 207 So
SG Alex Klatsky 6-4 206 rsSr - 5th-Yr WO

Aberdeen not a very good shooter. Or at least not last year in his limited time. 0 for 5 from three but more concerning is just 5 for 9 from the FT line.

Any kid that can score 27 Pts while winning the FL 7A State Championship in his Sr season can shoot.

Signed to
: Florida Gators
Additional Offers: Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, South Florida, St. Bonaventure, Florida Gulf Coast, Drake, Murray State and others.

Denzel Aberdeen
became one of the more highly recruited guards in the Southeast this summer after a strong travel season with Southeast Elite," said Rivals National National Recruiting Analyst Dan McDonald. "Coming off a junior season where he showed great scoring prowess at Dr. Phillips, the 6-foot-4 guard (now 6-5 189) also proved this summer he could run a team as a point guard, which elevated his stock in a big way."

"He's got some really good length at 6-foot-4. He plays for a high-level program there in Orlando and kind of shines as a defender as well as a facilitator. He's a guy who can score; he can shoot it well enough to keep people honest; he gets to the rim. His length has really made him an upside defender, so I don't think he has realized his total potential on that end just yet. He moves his feet well, and being 6-foot-4 and that wingspan kind of helps him jump in passing lanes.

Maybe I should ask what happened to him under Todd's tutelage???

Excellent point! Lord knows that no kid that was highly rated coming out of high school didn't excel at the collegiate level. Todd clearly has screwed this kid.

And who is it CG1, that constantly tries to justify now, with then and MW?
LMFAO
😂

I'm only interested in how Todd's pan out, or don't, or don't even get the chance to do any panning... Soon gonna be calling this place Xfer-U, both in and out....
🙄

Basketball has went very portal heavy. If a kid cant claim a starting spot his 2nd season that is on him.

Still waiting for White to sign all his UF portal guys to make a deep tournament run this season.

I remember how excited I was when White signed Keith Stone. Then he sucked and transferred. I guess White failed to develop him. Long list of highly rated players that don't pan out.
White could recruit pretty good. His player development was terrible.

So feveredbrain, why pay a coach millions if player development is all on the players themselves???
As much sense as usual....
🙄

To the others, very few if any of MW's players agree with your opinions on his player development or coaching, and i'm just guessing here, that they would know more about it than any of you do... 😜
PS
For those too dumb to figure it out, continued dissing on previous coaches (basketball or football) is failing spectacularly, to prop up the new coaches performance....

Dan Mullen is gone, a winning season after taking over a 4-7 loser team.
3rd and Grantham has gone back to coaching in the NFL.
Billy = 6-7, 3-5, 3-30

Mike White is gone, a winning season after taking over a 16-17 loser team.
Todd = 16-17, with a One & Done to UCF at home in the NIT.

The winners are gone, while 'New & Improved' losers have taken over.
Case Closed imoho, but the haters don't seem able to move on..

While talking season continues, with the whining and excuses unabated..... 😉
As a very long time fan still hopes for improvements to eventually happen.

Mullen destroyed the program and was lucky Trask bailed him out in 2019 and 2020 after he kept going with Franks. Was Trask even Mullen's recruit?

I know that it's a nearly impossible task for you feveredbrains, but do at least try to move on....

Sunrise Christian (Wichita, Kan.) 2024 Top-25, #4 C John "Cheat Code"Bol 7-2 190 has set a decision date for the next step of his basketball career for Saturday at noon EST. It was enough to stay in contention when he released his top eight on May 12. But, will it be enough to separate UF from the pack as the final team standing?

He’ll choose from eight suitors he compiled in May, including the Florida Gators alongside Michigan, Missouri, Texas, UConn, USC, Wake Forest and the Overtime Elite League. Florida has vied to be the pick since offering Bol in late October. UF has been battling the likes of finalists Michigan and Missouri in the closing stages of the process, proving to be an uphill battle as the Gators are the only school in that mix not to receive an official visit.

Bol and the No. 4 ranked player in the nation Flory Bidunga have expressed considerable interest in Todd Golden’s program. Both bigs visited Gainesville this year, firmly placing Florida in contention to acquire their services.

seat filler and practice body in my opinion.
SG Rishwain 6-5 190 - 3's = 43% - - GradSr - San-Fran xfer

A native of Los Angeles, Rishwain played 34 games in San Francisco's NCAA Tournament season in 2021-22, shooting 43 percent from 3-point range (55-for-128). He posted a 20-point outing in the 2022 WAC Tournament championship game against top-ranked Gonzaga (3/7/22). Rishwain moved into the starting lineup for 11 of his 20 appearances last season before an injury ended his season in January.

Rishwain has totaled 28 double-figure scoring games and four 20-point outings, including a career-high 25 points at BYU (2/25/21), and has nine games with at least four made 3-point field goals.

I see him and SG Riley Kugel 6-5 207 - 3's = 37.6% So splitting the playing time, hopefully giving the most minutes played in a game, to whichever has the 'Hot Hand' at the time.
