I just read it’s a ruptured testicle after getting hit in the balls by a pitch. Is that true? If so, it is very very terrible. Supposed to make a full recovery though.

In other baseball news, and I once thought this only happened in little league.

"Oh, my gosh! Wow! He got rung up on ball two!" UNO radio play-by-play announcer Emmanuel Pepis exclaimed during the broadcast. "That is horrific! ... Drummer just wanted to go home."

I saw that play and it was ridiculous. Ump was rightfully suspended.

Langford is out 3-6 weeks after groin surgery and Luke Heyman is day to day with a hamstring issue. Gators swept Siena this weekend to improve to 15-3. He had a pitch count for all his starters because of the way the upcoming series with Alabama is shaping up. They are scheduled to play a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series, but since rain is expected Saturday, Sully anticipates a Friday doubleheader and didn't want his weekend starters to get overextended against Siena. The bullpen finally pitched well and after Friday's lackluster performance, the offense cranked it up the last 2 days. Jac Caglionone and Josh Rivera are both playing like superstars. Gators host North Florida Tuesday night at 6 pm on SEC+ before getting it on with currently 15-2 Alabama at 7 pm Thursday on a game on the regular SEC Network. Bama's schedule has been pretty easy, having gone 14-0 before losing 2 out of 3 in Tuscaloosa this weekend to Columbia. They play South Alabama Tuesday night in Mobile. Mac Guscette is their primary catcher, having played 12 games with a .412 BA, 5 HR and 16 RBI.

Meanwhile, Gator softball (19-4) answered a gut check by run-ruling #24 Louisiana Sunday 11-2 and then run-ruling 17-7 Rutgers 10-1 on a no-hitter from Lexie Delbrey. Gator hitters looked more focused today and even though they started Game 1 against the same pitcher who shut them down yesterday, they made much better contact and were more patient in making her thrown in the zone. Great adjustments after what happened yesterday. Emily Wilkie started behind the plate and went 2-3 with a HR. Pal Egan got the start in RF and went 1-2 with a HR, while DH Olivia Gigante hit a grand slam. Elizabeth Hightower went 3.2 inning to improve to 9-2, with Rylee Trlicek finishing out the game by shutting down the Rajun' Cajuns. In the 2nd game, Skylar Wallace slugged a 2-run HR in the first inning, Avery Goelz went 2-3 with 3 RBI and Pal Egan went 0-3 but drove in 4 runs. Delbrey only threw 51 pitches with 4 K's and a walk, theo only Knights run scoring on the walk, a HBP, sac. bunt and ground out.
Having thrown 2 complete games on back-to-back days, it appears Delbrey is fully back. So far her command of the strike zone is much improved over last year and she will head in to the upcoming SEC schedule as the Gator ace, probably Starting the first and third games of our weekend series. Rylee Trlicek looked very good this weekend as well and I think she will be called on to relieve Delbrey when necessary and split game #2, plus the midweek games with Hightower. That's my educated guess anyway.

UF baseball didn't have a base runner until the 5th inning and they were down 2-0 and it could have been worse. But they rallied for 4 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th and got great relief pitching, especially from Nic Ficarotta, to get the 7-2 win and go to 16-3 with Alabama coming in Thursday for a 3-game series to open the SEC schedule.

Dominant pitching performance tonight from Brandon Sproat in a 3-0 win over Alabama. Complete game 1 hitter with 11 K's. Gators only got 3 hits, 2 singles from Josh Rivera and a 2-out 2 run HR in the bottom of the 6th from Cade Kurland. Rivera manufactured the 3rd run after his single in the 7th. He took 2nd on a wild pitch, stole third and came home on an infield chopper. Great opening SEC win. Probable doubleheader Friday due to rain Saturday.

Oooweeee....that ump won't even be able to pretend that he thought the call was right later on.

And if he did try to pretend he wasnt making an emotional call......I don't think that's any better.

He would be fortunate if the max penalty was not working for the rest of the year, imo. The dude doesn't have MLB umpire association type of protection. His position is a dime a dozen at the level he's at.

They finally announced a baseball doubleheader Friday, with the first game at 3:30 and Game 2 one hour after Game 1 finishes. Both are on SEC+.

Softball and baseball both split Friday doubleheaders.

Bama is a very experienced team. Good opening weekend series against a very good opponent. Bullpen actually pitched pretty well today. It was the starters that struggled early. Gave up 3 runs in the first in both games. Can't do that. 3 errors in the 2nd game today hurt.

Softball concerns me. No dominant pitcher and our lineup struggles again the really good pitchers, with the exception of Skylar Wallace.

Gators score 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to pull out the rubber game against Missouri Sunday 4-3. Florida is now 22-5, 2-1 in the SEC, with a game at Stetson Wednesday night and then a road trip to Arkansas next weekend.

Struggling with a below average Mizzou team not a good sign...

Baseball entering a tough stretch. Games with FSU wrapped around an away series at Ole Miss. I’d like to see 3-2.

I also read Brady Singer might be starting for team USA in the baseball classic final tonight.

FSU's 12-8, 3-3 in the ACC and have lost 5 out of their last 6 games. They got pounded by UCF twice last week and then dropped 2 of 3 to Boston College over the weekend. FSU's pitcher tonight is a freshman, was highly recruited but has only thrown 5.2 innings so far this year.

Noles smacking our rump at the moment. 5-1 and they are looking for more. Probably one of the weakest nolie teams in some time, but they have it going tonight.

Not sure how good or bad this FSU baseball team is as it is still early on in the season but they just recently had some pretty bad teams with Mike Martin Jr. hence the reason he was fired.

I could be totally wrong but I think FSU brought in their normal Friday starter in for relief tonight.

Good point. I believe they are 12-9 now and have a couple of pretty bad losses. But it's a long season and I do think their coach will turn out to be good.

Good win on the road. You know they have some talent and we’re all in to win that game at home.

I thought it was a pretty good win. Tough environment, defense kicked it around a little bit, sketchy starting pitching but bullpen was lights out and the lineup just kept on coming. Worked a bunch of favorable counts and hit the ball hard. Sully was getting guys some playing time too, so it wasn't our A team.

No. 8 Florida Travels for Midweek Showdown with Stetson
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Florida softball team hits the road for a solo midweek contest against Stetson at Patricia Wilson Field this Wednesday, March 22, at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Gators (22-5) and the Hatters (17-12) share a rich history between the two programs as Stetson was the first ever competitive collegiate game for the Orange & Blue. UF took both games of a doubleheader, 8-0 & 3-2, February 8, 1997 and since then holds an all-time record of 16-2 against the Hatters.

Last season the two programs met in home and away midweek affairs with Florida defeating Stetson, 7-0, in DeLand, Fla. and, 5-0, in Gainesville.

This year Florida enters the matchup looking to build off a successful start to Southeastern Conference play. UF took the series, 2-1, over Missouri for its first SEC series victory of the season, which also landed redshirt-junior infielder Skylar Wallace her second SEC Player of the Week award of the season.

Wallace batted .545 (6-for-11) with six runs scored, six RBI, a double, a triple, a pair of home runs and four stolen bases between a midweek game against Bucknell and the series with the Tigers.

Overall, the Gators rank nationally in batting average (.358 – 5th), on base percentage (.467 – 2nd), scoring (8.04 runs per game – 4th), slugging percentage (.598 – 5th) and walks (122 – 3rd).

Along with Wallace, Charla Echols & Kendra Falby continue to be the main catalysts to the Florida offense as the trio all rank nationally in batting average. Wallace (.455 – 25th), Echols (.429 – 50th) and Falby (.425 – 54th) are each batting over .400 at the top of the lineup and not to mention Avery Goelz (.380), Reagan Walsh (.343), Kaila Pollard (.341), Katie Kistler (.333) and Sam Roe (.327) all batting over .300 in the lineup.

The Hatters have produced a successful season so far themselves as they have racked up wins over then ranked No. 23 UCF, 4-3, No. 16 Georgia, 2-1, and South Carolina, 4-3, behind the arm of Lauren Hobbs (7-3, 1.81 ERA). In addition to Hobbs, Stetson has relied on Hannah Marien (7-4, 0.88 ERA) as the duo has over 70 innings of work each this season.

Following tomorrow's midweek is a three-game series at No. 12/17 Arkansas this upcoming Friday, March 24, through Saturday, March 26, at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Ark.
