2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

Ugly game today, but that's the way Vols want it. They imposed their will on the defensive end of the floor. Took away our guards, and candidly our bigs aren't the type of offensive threats needed in a game like this. Might want to consider playing Micah. This will be the strategy of teams moving forward.
Watched yesterday and easily the worst game I've seen us play in about 2 years. Nothing was going down, even seemed like we got out rebounded by a slacker assed rebounding team. Didn't look at the stats, but shooting 25% will get you beat all day long and twice on Sunday. Nothing was in synch. This crap happens on the road for all teams, just hope it doesn't happen on a regular basis.

I'm not labeling the Vols as world beaters but they've always played great defense, even in Gainesville when we won by 30. The score was 9-0 for the first 7-8 minutes of the game. It's just the postseason where they suck, hence the coach's name, regular season Rick.

It’s an outlier I believe.

Completely forgot about tonight's game. Glad I missed it. Looks like we toughed one out at home with 2 hobbled guards. Gonna be a rough stretch for the next week and a half.

I'm glad I watched it. Vanderbilt is a very good team with wins over Tennessee & Kentucky. To win by 11 without Clayton was huge. Will Richard came up big in the 2nd half, Condon had a great game, Aberdeen played well in his role as a starter, Haugh was solid and Ailjah Martin came back from a bad start and an injured hip to have a really good 2nd half. Great game to watch and an excellent, hard fought win over a good team. Every SEC game this year is going to be a batlle.

It was good for them to have a game like that, unless Clayton remains out which I think he'll be back Saturday.. you saw rotations and him trying the find the right combinations with young guys and starting Aberdeen, that Euro ball kid finally got to play and actually pretty much put the nail in Vandy with those two huge shots in about 20 seconds.. Also in the game we needed Chinyelu the most this year with the other injuries he had four fouls with 18 minutes left in the game and had to overcome that.. It's games like this where you need the other guys to have a night and Richard did that again. Martin never even took a shot until like mid 2nd half and all his attempts were either lay ups or dunks with like a quiet 8 points. At some point with all the guys we play, you're gonna have to get them to chip in offensively and still scored in mid 80's in an ugly ass game with new guys all over the place filling new roles. I like Golden but the way we use bigs in two man game at top of key teams have caught onto and just hammering them and know we are lazy with the ball because our bigs are turnover prone out there.. I still think Martin, Clayton and Richard just flat out haven't been selfish enough this year, we need them to win games.. It's great when Condon and Haugh get like 13 in games but the guards need to be less passive, I mean they are so good at taking it to the hoop.. when they do especially Martin and Richard they throw it down with ease and you're like where the hell is this all the time? Clayton is also crafty and makes a lot of his points actually on lay ups from teams over playing his shooting ability

Great insight, but at times Clayton can be a ball hog. The first few minutes of the Tennesse game he hardly passed the ball and took several bad shots, missing them all. He's an excellent player but sometimes forgets that as the point guard he's supoosed to be the distributor and let the game come to him.

Aberdeen is the only ball hog I notice on the floor all year
Aberdeen just dribbles too much. Clayton, however, will go through spurts where he feels the need to try to score every time he has the ball in his hands. Sometimes he gets hot and goes on a scoring spree. Other times he misses a bunch and puts the team in a funk. Again, excellent player, just not distributing like he should at times. Plus he turns the ball over way too much for a point guard. For example, last year Zion Pullin had 162 assists to 42 turnovers, roughly a 4 to 1 ratio. This year Walter has 79 assists to 51 turnovers, roughly a 1.5 to 1 ratio. He, also, has the lowest FG % of the starting 5 at .450 and only the 3rd best 3 point % at .359. I'm not saying he's not a great player. He's the obvious leader of the team and we're 19-3. I'm just pointing out that there are areas where he could play better and help the team more.

oh he's def too lazy with the ball too often.. sometimes he looks like he doesn't care at all, but he seems like a guy that can make the big time shot in March when we need it the most.

Need to win one of these next 2 road games to stay on track for a possible 2 seed in the tournament. Auburn will be a tough one on the road.
eh I don't see it, we haven't really played well in awhile and just keep getting even more banged up like a football team.. Miss State has lost all their big home games and are bound to get one, we seem to be the SEC's perfect little sacrificial cow when SEC teams need a win.. Playing prison rules at Auburn on Saturday evening we should just be lucky to get out of there without someone on our team getting their leg broken again.

Guys, this is what a true PG looks like and how the job is done.
Some of the assists are full court passes like the Bird used to do.
Single season 40 games with 337 assists
. 😲

And it not because this PG can't shoot the ball from deep, average distance of the 122 3's was 48' (S.Curry average is 47'), and can also drive to the basket so fast it looks like super-cruise...

(I think someone might have watched this when I posted it on the other board because I do see some of these moves/passes now being tried by our guys lately)

Probably need MS State game to have a chance at a 2 seed. It looks like TN is the only team to give Auburn trouble on their court. Would be a big win if we could pull it off though.

Maybe we can call White for some pointers.
I'm betting Mike is a lot less interested in what you like or want, than you seem to be in him. And who's this WE that you refer to? You got a rat in your pocket???
He's long ago moved on, while you continue to attempt to swing on his jockstrap....

Well Coach White seemed to be so interested in what I had to say on the internet that it made him willingly abandon his players and the University of Florida and become coach of the leghumpers.

Blah, blah, blah,,,,,

Probably. The sweating pig Pearl has them playing really well. To challenge, them our guys have to step their game up quite a bit from the way they've played the last couple of games. But we're still 19-3 and tough, so I'm not counting them out.
ocala, the ole iG has a loose guess/prediction on the rest of the Gator's season.

Not going to win the SEC Reg Season title, likely the Pearley barners again.
They are also unlikely to win the SEC Tourney either,,,, NBD imo.
They will make the Dance with a decent seed, somewhere in the 5>10 range.
They can make the 32 and maybe even the 16 with a little luck on the opponent draw, but doubtful to go any further.

Proving that scenario wrong would be just fine wid-me....

Reasonable prediction. The SEC is brutal this year, but looking at their remaining schedule I can see them going 12-6 in the SEC, 25-6 overall, which would probably get them a 3 or 4 seed. The NCAA tournament is all about match-ups and having to squeek out 1 game along the way where you should probably have lost. It's a crap shoot, but I honestly think they could make the Final 4, but more likely the Elite 8. Anything less than Sweet 16 to me would be disappointing considering the experience, talent and depth that they have. But we'll see. I am enjoying watching this team play, though.

A #2 to a #3 seed with a Final Four appearance I think. Not sure about the SEC tournament. Would need to see the SEC bracket to guess their chances.

uh... what? We are projected as a 2 seed at 19-3 against not only the best conference in NCAA this year, the toughest Conference arguably ever at this point.. not making a run in the tournament this year would be very problematic.. This is a veteran led and deep team, this is the year to give it a run.. We have some talent coming in and coming back, but just look how scary it was to watch the first half of this team without Clayton AND Martin against Vandy.. If it wasn't for our conference any other year we might be a 1 seed and be a favorable pick to make Final Four..

Opinions vary, always, and as they should at this point in the season.
Some of us here took a poke at the crystal ball with nothing won or lost by any of the guesses.

As I said.... >>> "Proving that scenario wrong would be just fine wid-me...."

PS - Anyone watch that Caitlin Clark vid, and if so whaddayathink?
