2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

Ugly game today, but that's the way Vols want it. They imposed their will on the defensive end of the floor. Took away our guards, and candidly our bigs aren't the type of offensive threats needed in a game like this. Might want to consider playing Micah. This will be the strategy of teams moving forward.
Watched yesterday and easily the worst game I've seen us play in about 2 years. Nothing was going down, even seemed like we got out rebounded by a slacker assed rebounding team. Didn't look at the stats, but shooting 25% will get you beat all day long and twice on Sunday. Nothing was in synch. This crap happens on the road for all teams, just hope it doesn't happen on a regular basis.

I'm not labeling the Vols as world beaters but they've always played great defense, even in Gainesville when we won by 30. The score was 9-0 for the first 7-8 minutes of the game. It's just the postseason where they suck, hence the coach's name, regular season Rick.

It’s an outlier I believe.

Completely forgot about tonight's game. Glad I missed it. Looks like we toughed one out at home with 2 hobbled guards. Gonna be a rough stretch for the next week and a half.

I'm glad I watched it. Vanderbilt is a very good team with wins over Tennessee & Kentucky. To win by 11 without Clayton was huge. Will Richard came up big in the 2nd half, Condon had a great game, Aberdeen played well in his role as a starter, Haugh was solid and Ailjah Martin came back from a bad start and an injured hip to have a really good 2nd half. Great game to watch and an excellent, hard fought win over a good team. Every SEC game this year is going to be a batlle.

It was good for them to have a game like that, unless Clayton remains out which I think he'll be back Saturday.. you saw rotations and him trying the find the right combinations with young guys and starting Aberdeen, that Euro ball kid finally got to play and actually pretty much put the nail in Vandy with those two huge shots in about 20 seconds.. Also in the game we needed Chinyelu the most this year with the other injuries he had four fouls with 18 minutes left in the game and had to overcome that.. It's games like this where you need the other guys to have a night and Richard did that again. Martin never even took a shot until like mid 2nd half and all his attempts were either lay ups or dunks with like a quiet 8 points. At some point with all the guys we play, you're gonna have to get them to chip in offensively and still scored in mid 80's in an ugly ass game with new guys all over the place filling new roles. I like Golden but the way we use bigs in two man game at top of key teams have caught onto and just hammering them and know we are lazy with the ball because our bigs are turnover prone out there.. I still think Martin, Clayton and Richard just flat out haven't been selfish enough this year, we need them to win games.. It's great when Condon and Haugh get like 13 in games but the guards need to be less passive, I mean they are so good at taking it to the hoop.. when they do especially Martin and Richard they throw it down with ease and you're like where the hell is this all the time? Clayton is also crafty and makes a lot of his points actually on lay ups from teams over playing his shooting ability

Great insight, but at times Clayton can be a ball hog. The first few minutes of the Tennesse game he hardly passed the ball and took several bad shots, missing them all. He's an excellent player but sometimes forgets that as the point guard he's supoosed to be the distributor and let the game come to him.

Aberdeen is the only ball hog I notice on the floor all year
Aberdeen just dribbles too much. Clayton, however, will go through spurts where he feels the need to try to score every time he has the ball in his hands. Sometimes he gets hot and goes on a scoring spree. Other times he misses a bunch and puts the team in a funk. Again, excellent player, just not distributing like he should at times. Plus he turns the ball over way too much for a point guard. For example, last year Zion Pullin had 162 assists to 42 turnovers, roughly a 4 to 1 ratio. This year Walter has 79 assists to 51 turnovers, roughly a 1.5 to 1 ratio. He, also, has the lowest FG % of the starting 5 at .450 and only the 3rd best 3 point % at .359. I'm not saying he's not a great player. He's the obvious leader of the team and we're 19-3. I'm just pointing out that there are areas where he could play better and help the team more.
