2021-22 Basketball Primer

Off ignore to see which dweeb is running his mouth on my thread....

Ahhh, it the dunnygoater spouting off again.
I know a lot more about basketball than you'll ever know about how to treat women, or raise children...
The woman left your sorry ass and now some other man is raising your daughter. What a total loser.
BTW, so happy that you left my state to lower the property values elsewhere.

How's that dunnygoater?
Now, why don't you go be a housefly somewhere else, (buzz around, eat shit, bother people).
Back on ignore....

I actually don't think that's true.

But let's pretend you had me on ignore.

also, you keep using the big ore button but turning it off every time someone on ignore responds to you?

Weird.

How've you enjoyed being 70 for 20 years?

or are you just a sad little boy who has to act this way to get attention your whole life? Which is why you pretend to have a wife of 70 years and have watched everything for 70 years and know everything about everything for 70 years? Or using childish nicknames for everything for 70 years?

just asking.

I SEE you Nick... 😉

Nick, in that Oral Roberts game, the officials stuck it to the Gators imo.
OR came in as one of the best FT shooting teams in the nation.
Go check the fouls called on UF vs those called on OR, and you will come away with the key to that game.

Side note: What do you call 2 gays named Bob?
Oral Roberts...
😁
-----

Does being called a poor shooting team make any sense, or really matter this season?

Of UF's 6 consecutive wins to begin the season:
5 have been by double digits;
4 by 20+,
and 2 by 36+.
While half (3) of those 6 wins have come vs Power-5 Teams:
FSU/ACC -- Cal/Pac12 -- tOSU/Big-10/12, with @ Okla/Big-12 up next....
Mike White's OoC SoS's are annually, the toughest in the SEC, and in UF history.

Some fans gloss over, or totally ignore that fact when judging Mike's HC'ing performance. And they usually do the same when considering the long injuries list he's had to deal with in previous years....
Mike is a much better HC than he's been given credit for being so far imo.

=====

On recruiting for the coming season, I'm hoping that he can again use the xfer's to fill the 4 open ship slots, with guys like the last 4-5 he's taken, instead of rolling the dice on all HS recruits. The 3 that he's already signed for this class + 4 xfers would fill out next season's roster with young quality & older experience.

#30 CG Dezel Aberdeen 6-4 175 *** Natl 193 - Orlando, FL (underrated imo)
#17 PF Jalen Reed 6-10 220 **** Natl 89 - Castaic, CA
#3 PF Malik Reneau 6-8 210 ***** Natl 25 - Montverde, FL

Wish List on iG's xfer's: A true C, a SF, and a couple more CG's....
There’s little doubt Mike White is amazing at evaluating talent. Both on the recruiting trail and the transfer portal. And let’s give him credit for bringing these guys together having never played together. You would think they could only get better.

It sucks that the UF/Oklahoma game is only being televised on Bally Sports, which used to be the regional FoxSports networks. The only people who can get access to the game are those whose TV provider is DirecTV, Spectrum, Xfinity, U-Verse, Cox, SuddenLink or Optimum and then you have to have the package that includes the Bally Sport networks programming. As a DISH customer, even with a ROKU box and access to SEC+ and all the other extra channels, I'm out of luck. To me this should be a big enough game to be on one of the ESPN channels. Oh, well.

Totally agree

A suffocating defense was a stated goal during preseason practices, and has carried over through the first 6 games of the regular-season, with the Gators equaling the 5th-best unbeaten start in program history, as well as the best in 9 years. This group is wired and wound differently. Not only do the Gators embrace playing defense, they love playing hard and being the ones that beat the other guy to the spot, to the glass and to 50-50 balls. Of the top 12 defensive categories in the KenPom.com rankings, Florida sits in the top 30 in seven of them and the top 20 in five.

If the home court officials don't bone them with unfair/uneven calls, the Gators should have a good chance at beating the swooner's high quality offense.

This is the best expression of the team's attitude so far in the iG's opinion:

"We all want to see how we handle this next (OU) challenge," Felder said. "The rankings and stuff, that's new to a lot of us. We're grateful for it, but we take it with a grain of salt. Whatever the number is right now, the goal is always to be No. 1. So, we just need to keep doing what we do, and keeping trying to do it better."

Note: After getting beat by the Gators, tOSU unset #1 Ranked Dukie on Friday night....

Note #2: I dumped Dish for Direct TV and I've never looked back.
Not only do I get the game, but I also get OANN for a double-good wammy....

Gators off to a slow start with 1 assist to 7 turnovers in the first 9 minutes. Down 14-10.

ocala, just a suggestion do as you want, but start a game thread, keeping this for comments pre & post games. iG

Nah - Gators down 21-20 with 6:14 left in the half. Shooting 50%, Fleming already with 10 points.

37-36 at halftime, Oklahoma. Gators 0-9 shooting 3's, Appleby only has 3 free throws and Jones hasn't scored. Fleming has 14, Castleton 10, but 4 turnovers. Guards need to play better and we'll win, IMO.

Not playing with the same energy we've seen in the past. Really surprised White has only used 7 players, especially with how we've been struggling.

This 7 player thing has been brought up a lot lately across basketball.

Not like a major talking point, but coaches talking about "oh yeah I mean I only use 7 players."

It feels like a group think thing. We just pretend it's always been the case but it hasn't.

No basket in over 6 min but we keep the same 5 on the floor. Odd we wouldn't see if someone off the bench could give us a spark.

We are 2 for 20 from three. Now granted, we aren't a very good shooting team, but I have to believe some of that is a product of fatigue from only using 7 players.

Their big guy, Groves, has outplayed Castleton, who has 6 turnovers, but the real difference is assist to turnover ratio and 3 point shooting. We're 2-20 shooting 3's, they're 4-13, but getting a lot of dunks and layups and we've missed a bunch of shots at the rim. We have only 7 assists to 15 turnovers, they have 15 assists to 13 turnovers. Appleby has had a horrible job shooting. Yet with 2 minutes+ left we're only down 5.

Defense was poor tonight, allowing a ton of inside easy shots. And the guards , except for Fleming, just didn't shoot it well. Ih well. Good learning experience.

OU is a good team, so not a bad loss especially on the road. Lots of teaching opportunities tonight. For White he has to play more than 7. We need to understand that defense and energy is how we win, not offense.

Road wins aren't easy but still think we wont know until SEC play what we have with this team as far as being a true contender. Ohio State should be a nice win at the end but not so sure about FSU but the ACC is weaker than normal this season.

Agree. Nobody will go undefeated, and this won't be the last time we lose. All about getting into the tourney, good seed, and making a deep run.

Appleby has to play with more control and the guards have to shoot it better if we are to be able to beat the really good teams. Oklahoma shredded our defense tonight, the first time that's happened this year. A lot of new guys playing together. They have to learn from this game. But teams with a strong inside game will give us trouble. Their big guy was great.

Yep Appleby reverted to last year a little bit this game. I don't even think this Oklahoma team is that good looking at their other games but maybe they just started slow. I guess Maryland on a neutral court will be a little test but they have been underachieving so far this season. Well one good thing is we have that Ohio State win to help with seeding.

#20 6-1 Gators host 0-7 Texas Southern tonight at 6 pm on SEC+. Shouldn't be a contest, but still have to watch.

Holy smokes, I just looked at the box score. They are shooting 58%....goodness. Well let's hope we get it turned around. This would be an ugly ugly loss. They are 0-7 and been getting killed. I also see we are getting outrebounded by 10...wtf??

Duruji & Fleming got into early foul trouble. The defense has given up 6-7 back door cuts for easy baskets and nobody but Castleton is hitting the boards. We're jacking up 3's without trying to work the ball inside. Terrible 1st half.

This team has lost to Oregon by 17, St. Mary's by 9, Washington by 7, Air Force by 4, NC St. by 8, BYU by 17 and Louisiana Tech by 27.

Damn, down 15 now. It's like they are just simply the better team. We can't get any rebounds. Being a poor shooting team is going to cost us this year.

Back to back turnovers by Southern and Appleby misses two threes. How about we take no more threes the rest of the game??
