2021-22 Basketball Primer

The 'entitled fans' don't deserve a coach of the quality of Mike White....

The rest of us, and more importantly his players, are very glad that he's here.

Yesterday you were saying he needed to be fired, today he's the best thing since sliced bread.

You were right yesterday. Today the dementia has kicked back in.

How to win vs Florida?
Just knocking out 1-2 of their best players improves your chances.

UGly does so on a regular basis in football, Davis/Pitts.
While the dollies worked them over on the court.
I'm an Old Testament kind of guy, so I'd be returning those favors in kind.

The only rules in war, are kill or be killed.
Everything else is just smoke & mirrors.

For those that hold winning as the only goal, they should be going at it the same way that their enemies do it. Right and wrong go out the window.

The choice is to play fair and equitable while losing.
Or if winning is all that matters, then learn how to subvert the rules as much as possible to win. Cheat, steal, lie, and buy off the officials.....

For an oh BTW....
With Billy getting 38 off the field staffers to aid the football program, I'm just wondering how many new/extra off court staffers Stricklin is buying to help Mike's program moving forward? At least 1-2,,, maybe?

Excellent comeback today vs. Oklahoma St. trailing 45-32 at the half, the Gators outscored the Cowboys 49-27 the 2nd half and won 81-72. Mike White benched some starters to begin the 2nd half and it seemed to light a fire under the team, as they played much better the 2nd half, moving the ball around better, forcing the issue and getting to the foul line a lot and then playing tenacious defense. Florida still struggled shooting 3's, hitting 10-31, but they won the game at the free throw line, making 33-41. Four Gators scored in double figures, led by Appleby with 21 and Fleming with 14. Nice win.

Really nice adjustments by White at halftime. Glad we hit our free throws, definitely the difference down the stretch. Defense intensity really picked up in the second half.

UF 81 - 72 OkSt -- The iG is still enjoying the season, one game at a time.... 🤓
(reading less here, helps with that enjoyment immensely)

"But we always talk to these guys about there’s no such thing as garbage time." -- Mike White

For the B-Ball Genius types that came out in force to DISS on Tuon....
SF Tuongthach Gatkek
22 Min, 2-2 FG, 4/6 FT, 3 RB, 3 Blk, 1 TO, 1 Stl, 8 Pts

Seems to the iG that they would have been in trouble if he DIDN'T play....
😛

Also, for the PG that some claimed 'ain't no real PG'...
PG Tyree Appleby
(the iG says he's a PG, the rest can say whatever you like)
32 Min, 5-10 FG, 3-8 3's, 8-9 FT, 3 RB, 4 Ast, 2 TO, 3 Stl, 21 Pts

Proving once again, that no matter that he's down 4 key players, and 2 that are All SEC quality, (SF KJ, PF/C CC, C JJ, PF CJ-F),,, Mike still can't coach a lick....
🙄

And that will remain the attitude with the 'entitled' fans that only judge a coach by his current W/L record, while ignoring the many other team factors.
No Championships, while ignoring the fact that while suffering multiple injuries, especially to his Big's, he has still made a tourney every year, never gone one & done, and he's never had a losing season.

I'm outta-here, so yawl can have at it again....

Gatkek is awful. He just sucked a little less yesterday. 1 out of 4 games not sucking horribly doesn't make a trend. Appleby on the other hand played extremely well yesterday. I just wish he wasn't so inconsistent.

You gotta play with what you got. Can’t sign any free agents. Mike White’s coaching will certainly be tested.

Gator Women's Basketball was brought down to reality today, dropping to 15-6, 5-3 in the SEC. After beating 3 ranked teams in their last 5 games, they hosted #1 South Carolina today. UF played terrible the 1st half, making only 4 of 30 shots, scoring on 3 points in the first quarter and 10 in the second quarter, trailing 33-13 at halftime. They played much better the 2nd half, but the deficit was too much to overcome and the Gators fell 62-50. Still the interim coach has her team playing very hard and together, as they are the surprise of the league so far. Next game is Thursday, as they host Tennessee.

Seems that others besides me don't agree with your 'he sucks' assessment....

Agreed. OK St not very good. We will have much more difficult games. White did an excellent job yesterday making adjustments.
Yeah, OkSt is not good at all, but they did beat the Defending National Champions Baylor earlier in the season, but I'm sure that means nothing to the B-Ball genius types posting here....

Late in the first half, the Gators were down by 16 points. The Cowboys were on the way to shooting 63 percent from the floor and (wait for it) 70.0 from the 3-point line.

And to as if Mike White can coach or not...
it was the trio of Lane, Kennedy and Gatkek that altered the game more than anyone else.

"Whatever Mike White said to his team at halftime was about 10 times better than what I said to mine," Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton Jr. offered afterward.

White did a great job getting his team fired up to make an excellent comeback against a 10-10 team. Sure they beat Baylor. We beat Ohio State. Doesn't make either team a true contender. I try to be objective and give the coach credit when he does good things. And I know the players like him. I just don't think he's the guy that is going to get the Florida program back to national prominence. I'm not an "entitled" fan as you like to call anyone who disagrees with you. I just want White to be held to the same standard as other Gator coaches. Win SOMETHING at least once every 7 years.

As the Goal-Post move....
I said nothing about being a contender, I was talking about specific players and coaches.

That's a lie ocala. I just call the ones that ONLY hold Championships as their coaching criteria 'entitled.'
If that includes you, then that's your's by your own choice, not mine.

I have a rather longer list of criteria for deciding on whether a coach should be retained or not.

Ok St is 10-10 and headed for the NIT. So no, they are not very good. 1 game does not make a team good. Remember, Texas Southern rolled into Gainesville and put a beat down on us. So does that make them good?

OkSt is tied with OK and IoSt for 6th in the Big 12, so they are an average Big 12 this year so far.
Having beating Baylor shows that on a good day, they have a shot against anybody.

The SWC leader is 6-2, TxSo is one game out at 6-3
But by NCAA Dance standards, they are little chumps that should just go ahead and fire their coach because he can't win a NC...

With a loss to TxSo, that proves that no other team in D1 but Mike White's has ever lost to someone that they shouldn't have lost to....

So, now any college player that isn't making the NBA rounds sucks. Gottacha...
Means that there's a whole lot of sucking going on in college B-Ball....

Stupid crap postings,,,
I should prolly go back to my nap instead of responding to it.... 😴

But I'll just throw this out there before going....

Per Mike White: Gatkek proved to be a plus defensively (and had 8 Pts).

He was 3rd on the team in +/- with Florida +10 when he was on the court.
In his 22 minutes, Gatkek flashed the potential to be more than a plug-and-play piece during his career in the orange and blue. Showing skills as a serviceable rim protector, Gatkek recorded three blocks on the day and held his own better than many would expect, according to White. They found the spark they needed off the bench to fight back against the Cowboys

When the Gators play with high energy defensively, they’re borderline elite. The Gators totaled 11 steals — with 8 players recording one — and 6 blocks on the day, with Gatkek getting half (3) of the blocks.

Their scoring was also spread out well, and they were killer at the line:
Appleby 21 - FT 8-9
Fleming 14 - FT 6-6
Reeves 11 -- FT 2-2
Duruji 10 ---- FT 2-4
Gatkek 8 ---- FT 4-6
McKissic 8 -- FT 5-6
Jones 8 ------ FT 5-6
Kennedy 1 -- FT 1-2
Team FT's = 33-41 - 80.5%

Wait, are you trying to convince someone that texas southern is good? Seriously? They were 0-7 when we played them, at home, and lost by 16. No way to spin that one Dorothy. As to OSU, they are 10-10 and most likely NIT bound if they can pull together some wins down the stretch. White did a great job with adjustments, now hopefully CC and Felder can get fully healthy.

You always miss the point, not surprising.

"With a loss to TxSo, that proves that no other team in D1 but Mike White's has ever lost to someone that they shouldn't have lost to...."

This season could have been much different for Mike IF.....
KJ had been cleared to play.
CC had not gone out indefinitely injured.
JJ had not gone out for the season injured.
CJ Felder had not gotten very sick missing games at a critical time.
But hey, that's all on Mike's poor coaching.

When he get wins against higher rated teams, the 'entitled' are mostly silent, or they say that the other team was crappy.
But when he loses to ANYONE, then he's a crappy coach.

Please explain to me why players continue to come here with him as the coach?
And why has this team continued to like him and play for him?
Maybe they see what you fail to see....

Instafool logic:

It's ok that Mike White had the worst, most embarrassing loss of the year, because he doesn't have all the embarrassing losses of every year.

Mike White deserves credit for beating the 70th best team in the country because we are the 110th best team in the country, and therefore he beat someone more highly rated.

Recruits are only coming here because Mike White is the coach, not because of the free education, room and board, and opportunity to play TV games 20 times a year. As long as any recruit is willing to come to UF, Mike White is doing a great job.

CC nor Felder have been hurt all year? No, they both played when we lost to crappy texas southern, maryland, etc etc etc....you act like the season was going awesome until CC got hurt....uhhh, no it wasn't.

More solid proof that Mike White can't coach a lick....

23 Non-league wins for the Gators over power conference opponents since White arrived for the 2015-16 season. That's the most of any SEC program, with Kentucky the next-closest at 20.

And that's with him having to play/coach around injuries to his Bigs constantly.

Yep - he needs a raise and extension

Due to bad weather, the Missouri/Florida game has been moved to 3 pm Wednesday. Still supposed to be on the SEC Network.

Funny, you say "solid proof", without actually providing any actual proof, just a statement with no documentation. I call shenanigans.

Gators up 33-31 at the half. Jones with 15. We were hot from behind the arc. Lane played well defensively. Feels like we outplayed them but somehow it's only 2. Had some turnovers that hurt.

Mizzou starting to open it up. Feels like Ole Miss. Mike White has a great halftime adjustment against OKS and then comes out and lays an egg this game.
