will ole miss make a run at Mike White?

That’s fine but he still has to play them three times a year and losses won’t come with asterisks. When you were complaining about finishing as the ninth seed, I don’t recall you giving him a pass for games lost to cheaters.
Not giving him a pass at all. I'm just saying I don't wanted convicted cheaters coaching at the University of Florida. I'm still not sold on White as a title contending coach. And losses do count no matter who the opposing coach is. 16 losses this year raised a lot of questions in the minds of a lot of people, myself included. I've never called for his firing like some - I've simply moved from the category of totally supportive to skeptic. The next 2 years should tell a lot and I'm hoping he IS the winner we're all hoping for.

For the skeptics.
1. Who is available - that wants the job to replace coach White?
2. Would the AD/UAA/UF want them as a Gator coach?

List all of the coaches that fit the above 2 requirements and have done better than this...

UF's coach, Mike White, is 1 of just 10 teams in the country to win at least 1 NCAA Tournament game each of the last 3 seasons, and 1 of only 2 SEC teams to reach the tournament all 3 of those years. The goal for next season, of course, is to make a deeper run at the NCAA..

~ Coach White took over a 16-17 team, and he has 20+ wins in all 4 of his seasons at UF. -- WAC CoY - C-USA CoY
SEC CoY., already with a trip to an Elite-8.

As to winning a NC. Coach Izzo and I have known for a long time that you have to be 'good enough' to make it to the Sweet-16,,, then 'LUCKY enough' to win the NC.
Because once you get down to the best 16 teams out of 350+ D1 teams, ANY one of them can beat you on a given day... o_O

I'm guessing that list of coaches would be somewhere between 'very short, to non-existent'... o_O

Up next, UF vs Ark in SEC tourney.
Beat Ark and they get to play a rubber game vs SEC #1 LSU....
Then on to the Big Apple and the NIT :D:D

UF finished 9-9 in the power house SEC. (again with 7-8 teams in the Dance)
Powerhouse? :rolleyes::rolleyes:

14 teams you have 3 good teams?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Where did your Chokers finish in the has-been Big 12/10/whatever??

I heard that it was 7-11,,, -- is that correct? If so, then enjoy the NIT,,, IF they give you an invite that is... (chokers finished 7th in a crappy 10 team has-been conference) Ans -- As usual, crickets...

You are correct. Which is embarrassing as heck if your a Vol fan.

Not if you are a Vol fan who realizes that you have a second rate POS athletic program that sucks hind teat no matter the sport. If you are like some on here, with delusions of grandeur, then yeah, you're embarrased.

Congrats to your choker coach Rick Barnes. He and UT are perfect for each other.

Still kicks Mike White's ass with nothing but 2* & 3* recruits. Instadouche and his Imaginary Recruiting National Championship Award not withstanding.

Tell us again, what round did the Mighty White's get put out in THIS YEAR ?

Congrats on winning nothing. Even Mike White has gotten to the Elite 8.

Good luck with the choker Rick Barnes but he’s a good fit for the choker UT basketball program.

'Regular Season Rick' strikes yet again... :D:p:D
And Mad-Doggie, shouldn't you be on a rubber-dollie board, patting each other on the back for your great season and coach? o_O --
==========

Moving right along...

Cliff notes on Gator Basketball to end the season:

The Florida coach, was open about a wide variety of subjects during the mass interview with local media.

Team roster turnover will be severe this coming season.
7 Ships gone, plus the 2 walk-ons. It will be a very different team out on the court next season. ;)

Newbees in the post will include these two freshmen, a 4-5 star and a 3-4 star.
C/PF Omar Payne 6-10 225
~ Both should load up their dinner plates,,, then switch! :D
C Jason Jitoboh 6-11 270

“We now have plenty of size, guys we just gotta get better up front. We’ve gotta get healthy up front. I can’t imagine anybody in the country has had more injuries than us up front. I’m not making excuses, but we have to get healthy up front.”

On the 4 who transferred out,,, “None of them (this week) were a surprise." (playing time became an issue, and with the incoming class, it was only going to worsen for them next season)

White made it clear he’s looking for certain personalities as much as anything. “Transfers, high school guys, we’re open to any type of guy out there who is a good fit,” he said. “You hope they would accept the role, hope they would put winning above any personal aspirations. Character guys who fit our (Gator-Team) culture.” o_O

“Our culture wasn’t as good this year as it has been the last two years, especially two years ago (Elite-8) ” he said. “We had some unhappiness in the locker room. It’s typical of college basketball, guys on the bench are frustrated. ~~~ But off the court, zero issues.”

On Florida’s style of play.
Florida was one of the slowest teams in the country after starting out the season looking like a pressing, running team. White figured out that this team couldn’t play fast and there was a better answer, even if it wasn’t as much fun to watch. “We figured out how to play finally and that’s on me,” he said. “There are so many different ways to do it,” White said. “Just look at the teams in our league and how different they are. When I first got here, I had a style of play I would have liked to have played. Faster, up tempo. This year, I’ve never even been on a staff that played nearly this slow.
~ “We were like 4 or 5 different teams this year,” White said. He’d like to be just one next season. o_O

With the new roster it will be -- but if you're over-weight and/or out of shape, don't expect to see the floor much... Next season I expect them back to Mike's usual up-tempo style of offense, mixed in with his usual high pressure defense. -- iG

Rick Barnes has won a lot of games at George Mason (1 year), Providence (6 years), Clemson (4 years), Texas (17 years) and Tennessee (4 years) - 692-364 (.655). He's taken 24 teams to the Big Dance and his record in the tournament is 24-24. 11 of his teams lost their 1st game, 6 more lost in the Round of 32, 4 lost in the Sweet 16. Only 2 made the Elite 8 and only 1 made the Final 4. Those best 3 teams were at Texas during a 6-year span from 2002-2008. In 32 seasons he has only won 4 conference championships, 3 at Texas (1 outright, 2 as co-champ) and 1 as a co-champ at Tennessee. To me he's a very good coach, but not a championship coach. He's 64 years old and nearing the end of his career. He is what he is and will maintain the Tennessee standard. Win a bunch of games, but never any titles.

Y'all's hit of a coach only made it ONE game further than UF when they had everything set up. Everything.

Didn't win the regular season. Got punked my Bruce Pearl in the SEC tournament. Choked to Purdue.

Mike White still has as many Elite 8's as the UT hoops program does in it's entire history.

Regular season Ricky!
Yep. He’s a good coach but not a championship caliber coach.

In college basketball your success is measured on how you do in the “big dance”. It is what everybody remembers.

Rick Barnes is a choker just like the UT basketball program. They are perfect for each other with nearly identical tournament success or non success should I say.

He's much like Leonard Hamilton. They could swap jobs and get the same results - lots of regular season wins and fizzle out in the post season.

Should big things be expected in 2019-2020? Sure. With the return of a freshmen core that looks special and another elite recruiting class coming in, people should be excited to see the Gators play next season. But expectations are always high at Florida.

Just ask Billy Donovan’s Dad, Bill Sr., who remains a program staple who frequently attends Gators home games and often travels with the team on road trips. If you run into Bill Sr., you’ll be greeted with his warm smile and if you ask him, you can count him among those that remains strongly in White’s camp. It isn’t easy to replace a legend, but “Mike’s doing a heckuva job,” Bill Sr mentioned at a game in March. “Just has to keep at it, stay the course.”

Florida fans should do the same. o_O

I guess that 'Regular Season Rick' didn't want him or need him, right Mad-Doggie???

Offers: (13 including Yale - He can replace 3 star PG Okauru in a back-up & practice floor roll to begin with. Explosive - and his shooting accuracy looks really good!
Per/Gm -- Pts 21.1, Ast 3.6, Rbs 2.8, Stl 1.4 --- FG 56%, 3's 44%, FT's 85%

"We’d like front-court help, but we’d also like to shoot it better," White said. "We’d like to add back-court guys, we’d like to add character guys... open to anything. We’d just like to piece it together any way we can."

With 2 ships left to fill....

I, and quite a few other Noles, have been critical of Hamilton in the past. However, we went further in the tournament than expected last year, and this year, we went as far as expected. We are happy with Hamilton and the way he runs a clean program and expects the players to behave properly and graduate. Plus, he has a nice winning streak going against you guys. :)

Ham has always seemed like a decent enough guy, especially with him being a criminole... ;)
BTW, his streak vs UF is not nearly as good as the one O'Sull has against you guys & Martin. o_O (10 consecutive and 15 of 16) :p

2 Ships remain open for now.

PS

If the 3 returning big guys don't want to see their minutes fall to near nothing, then they'd better be working their butts (lard) off this off season... o_Oo_O

He does seem like a good guy. Very unlikely he ever gets you a title, but he strings together 2-3 decent seasons and keeps the fan base satisfied.

Just a little FYI... o_O

Under ole Cal-cheat:

First 6 seasons:
Final-4's -- 4
National Titles - 1
Weeks in the AP #1 -- 32
Win % -- .833

Last 4 seasons:
Final-4's -- 0
National Titles - 0
Weeks in the AP #1 -- 4
Win % -- .777

That is all....

4 whole years without a final four after going every other year for 6 years. Every post about mike white, insta references the elite 8 like it’s the promised land and Cal’s there every year. Cal’s a greaseball and all that, but he’s an animal.

dudlygoater, I've asked before with no answers from you genius types.

Who is available, that wants the job, that has a better record than Mike?
I'm still waiting....

While you focus on only one item, ignoring the rest.
The SEC is a lot tougher than it was 20 years ago.
Mike came here after being the WAC CoY and C-USA CoY
He got 29 wins and that E-8 in just his 2nd year and named SEC CoY.
He's had 20+ wins all 4 seasons with 1 NIT and 3 trips to the NCAA.
And now that he's established himself as a credible SEC/UF coach, how is his recruiting coming along? o_O

We believe we have the better basketball program and can't understand your winning streak, you believe you have the better baseball program and can't understand our winning streak. It all evens out.

They don’t have a national title in baseball or basketball. We have at least 1 in both. They are probably trying to figure out why we have so many more national titles then them.

Some Gator nay-sayers and the rival trolls think/claim that lowly 3-star C Jason is injured and over weight so he won't be available to play next season. Let me just put that bs to rest for ya.... o_O

Big man Jason Jitoboh 6-11 270 **** - Chattanooga, TN commits to Mike White and UF.
For the past few months Jason Jitoboh has had his ups and his downs. He faced an ankle injury that kept him out for months and it came at a time when he was landing offers on a regular basis. Jitoboh was landing offers from schools such as Louisville, Illinois, Florida, Wake Forest, and many others. But, he’s found his new home. Jitoboh tells Stockrisers that he has committed to Mike White and the Florida Gators.

Some of the errant claims: The 'current' 3-star prospect is coming off injuries to his foot and ankle, making it likely the Gators will opt to sit Jitoboh for a season as he recovers and develops. (not true, Jason recently tweeted that his foot is fine now and he's ready to get to work, so IF he red shirts, it won't be because of past injury or over weight.

Note: The injured foot & ankle caused or encouraged his weight gain, but Jason says that his foot is fine now. UF's S&C will help get his body corrected between now and next Fall.

“Florida was actually my first offer and they have been recruiting me hard and I have built a relationship with the coaching staff,” Jitoboh said. Me and Coach Mike have a great relationship because he saw something in me that I didn’t see and I think he can help develop me to the player I know I can be.”

As I previously said, Jitoboh faced a setback when he injured his ankle towards the end of last summer. Many schools went another direction, (no AAU so he dropped from a 4 star to a 3 star) but some schools stayed, including Florida. “After my injury a lot of schools looked the other way but Florida still kept checking on me and still believed in me.”

C Jitoboh will join SF/CG Scottie Lewis, CG Tre Mann, PF/C Omar Payne, CG Ques Glover, and SG Alex Klatzky in the Rivals #7 ranked class. o_O
