Gator softball beat South Carolina today 6-0 behind Natalie Lugo's 4 hitter. Florida hit 2 HR's in a game for the first time this year - Hannah Adams in the 1st, Jamie Hoover in the 2nd and Charla Echols in the 5th. With Arkansas losing to Missouri today, the Gators are only 1 game behind them in the loss column for th4e SEC lead.

Baseball at Auburn postponed due to weather. Doubleheader will be played Sunday.

Well, is has been long enough. We finally have a natty in volleyball.
It was a great match to watch and Kentucky deserved it. But I have mixed feelings because Mary Wise hasn't gotten one. With 23 SEC titles, a bunch of Final 4's and 2 national runners=up, I wanted her to be the first.

Kentucky has a fraction of the success historically that Florida does in volleyball and they win the title first, lol. 8 Final Fours and two runner ups and the friggn’ Cats win the title first. Next thing you know the damn Noles will somehow win one first before our girls do. Florida is by far the best volleyball program in history with out a title. Not even close.

#3 UF softball beat South Carolina today 4-2 to improve their record to 35-7, 14-4 in the SEC. Natalie Lugo (13-1) only gave up a solo HR in 5.2 innings. Katie Chronsiter picked up her 5th save, although allowing a run in the 7th and had the tying runs on base with only1 out before ending the game. Florida only had 4 hits for the game, but walked 6 times while the Gamecocks committed 3 errors, allowing 2 unearned runs. The Gators have a midweek game against FMAU before traveling to Missouri, who is currently in 3rd place in the SEC at 11-5, 33-10 overall. The Tigers are playing Arkansas (37-6, 16-3) tonight and tomorrow and the Gators need them to win at least 1 of those games to tighten up the SEC race.

Meanwhile, UF Lacrosse beat Old Dominion today 17-4 in Norfolk, VA to run their record to 13-2, 10-0 in the AAC. The Gators finish their regular season against Liberty 9-7.

Also, at Auburn in the 1st of a doubleheader in which games will only be 7 innings, the Gators have blow a 6-2 lead and now trail 10-6 in the top of the 6th. Tommy Mace started, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings. Jack Leftwich surrendered 5 runs on 6 hits (all earned) in the bottom of the 5th inning. These 2 guys are supposed to be the aces of the staff and they just got blown up today by 16-19, 2-14 in the SEC Auburn. Defense and pitching have been way below Gator standards so far this year.

Hopefully Sully has some arms coming in next season. Can't afford to lose to horrible Auburn if we expect to make the tourney. With 6 games against the #1 and #2 teams coming up can't afford to drop these.

Gators salvaged the 2nd game of Sunday's doubleheader 6-4 and won the series 2-1. We are now 28-12, 11-7 in the SEC. We're now tied with South Carolina for 3rd in the SEC East, 2 games behind Vandy and a game behind Tennessee. Huge weekend series coming up hosting Vanderbilt. If the Gators are going to make a move to get back into the discussion for an SEC title and/or hosting an NCAA Regional, the time is now.

The gap between us and Vandy is wide....they are really good. Curious to see how they rebound next year when they lost these 2 pitchers. I'm hopeful we can salvage at least 1 game this weekend.....

Meanwhile, UF softball took the opening game of a huge series at Missouri 5-2. Great game to watch. Missouri has the best hitting team in the SEC, Gators have the lowest ERA. Missouri got a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 2nd and their pitcher cruised with a 1 hitter into the 6th inning. But the Gators got a 2 out, 2-run single from freshman Emily Wilkie, followed by a 3-run HR from Jamie Hoover. Elizabeth Hightower picks up the win and Katie Chronister the save as the Gators go to 15-4 in the SEC., 36-7 overall.

Good W for sure!!!

Gators left a ton on base tonight. Pitching a big problem. Now we get to face probably the best pitcher in college ball tomorrow. Umpire had a WIDE strike zone in the 9th...guy was obviously looking to get home.

Baseball team lost 11-7 after falling behind 6-0 in the 2nd inning. Both teams had 13 hits. We stranded 14 base runners and just couldn't get the clutch hit to get us back in the game. Alemon was horrible as a starter and Sully left him in there for 5 innings (9 runs given up) because he didn't want to burn up his bullpen for the rest of the series. Ben Specht was terrible in his 1 inning of relief, giving up the other 2 runs. The other 3 guys shut Vandy down. We scored enough runs to win, but the Gators problem right now is that our top 2 weekend starters simply aren't pitching up to their potential and expectations. Leftwich and Mace are probably the most experienced 1 & 2 guys in the country and Leftwich has lost his slot as a weekend guy, being relegated to the bullpen. And Mace has been inconsistent, yet gets the start tomorrow in a must win situation.

Gator softball just got run-ruled by Missouri, 10-2 in 5 innings. Pitching and defense was terrible today and Florida stranded 2 runners in the 2nd and left the bases loaded in the 3rd when the game was still close. The runner game is at Noon on Sunday and the Gators need to win if they want to keep their hopes alive for catching Arkansas for the SEC title.

Gator baseball roughed up the #1 pitcher in the country, Jack Leiter, and beat Vandy 11-8 tonight. Tommy Mace gave up 6 early runs, 5 earned, but hung in there and pitched 8 innings, picking up the win. Jud Fabian had 2 HR's, Kirby McMullen had another, as UF improved to 12-8 in the SEC, 29-13 overall. The rubber game is at 3 pm Sunday on ESPN2.

Nice win. Would have never thought that in the first 2 games against Vandy we would have 19 runs. Crazy.

UF softball kept their slim chances of winning the SEC title alive by beating Missouri today 3-2 to improve to 37-8, 16-5 with a home series against Texas A&M closing out the season. Arkansas is 18-4 in the SEC with a doubleheader at LSU Monday finishing up their season. After getting run-ruled 10-2 by Missouri Saturday and falling behind 2-0 today, it looked bleak for Florida, especially considering they were no hit through 5 innings. They got singles from Lindaman & Cottril in the 6th, but couldn't get them home. In the 7th, light-hitting SS Sarah Longley hit a 1 out double in the right centerfield gap. Baylee Goddard, pinch hitting for slumping Cheyenne Lindsay, was hit by a pitch. Hannah Adams then slugged a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence to give the Gators a 3-2 lead. Katie Chronister, who relieved Elizabeth Hightower in the 4th inning, shut out the Tigers the rest of the way to pick up her 7th win of the year.

Gator baseball took the series from #2 Vandy, winning Sunday 5-3. Hunter Barco pitched a solid 5.1 innings and Jack Leftwich threw the final 2.2 innings to pick up the save. Florida got a huge 2 out 2 RBI single from Sterlin Thompson, Kris Armstrong had 2 hits and an RBI and the Gators played well on defense to improve to 30-13, 13-8 in the SEC. They play Stetson Tuesday night before heading off to Kentucky for a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series.

Walton has the ladies playing well. 4-2 against two top 10 teams over the last couple of weekends. Getting into postseason form. Mizzou is really good, just took 2 of 3 from arky.

Great series win for baseball. Sully seems like he’s figuring out what works with his pitching. We don’t really have three starters but we’ve got Barco and a bunch of guys who can get you a few innings. Mace was really solid after giving up runs early, so maybe he’ll start pitching like a solid no. 1. Think if we win the rest of our series we’ll be in the mix for a top 8 seed.

UF Men's Tennis is the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament - brackets announced today. The Gators will play South Alabama in their opening match Friday. Duke & USF are, also coming to Gainesville for the opening weekend. Baylor is the #2 seed in the tournament, Tennessee #3 and Texas #4. If Florida advances past this weekend, they would play the winner of Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Depaul & #16 Illinois in the Sweet 16. To get to the Final 4, they would need to beat probably either #8 Texas A&M or #9 UCF in the Elite 8. All matches after the opening weekend will be played in Lake Nona, Fl at the USTA National Campus. They are May 17, May 20-28.

Back to the baseball team. Fabian homering and stomping the plate in response to the Vandy player earlier in Saturdays game was great. Fired the ream up and it carried over into Sunday. UF needed this series win for some confidence going forward.

Did the women make the tourney?

#10 ranked UF baseball beat Stetson for the 3rd time this year in a 3rd slugfest in which their pitching was just a little worse than ours. We won 9-6, as Sterlin Thompson had 3 hits, Hickey & Young had 2 each and Armstrong hit a HR. But Gator starter Timmy Manning gave up 2 HR's in the 1st inning and Christian Scott gave up 2 more in the 9th. Trey Van Der Weide & David Luethje were good in relief, but Ryan Cabarcas gave up 2 hits and a walk to open the 8th. Scott got out of that mess and the Gators ultimately won, improving to 31-13. Next up is Kentucky on the road Thursday night.

Gators down 4-0 after 4 Cat pitcher has been dealing. A couple of bad plays paired with a couple of soft hits and cats plate 4. Need to get the bats going. This cat pitcher was hit hard last week. Let's see if we can rally

Alemon has had some bad luck tonight, but he just can't consistently execute quality pitches with 2 strikes. Hickey is a liability behind the plate. Will be glad when Guscette can get back there. Also, Calilao is a better first baseman than Butler and with Butler not hitting a lick, I would hope to see Kendrick at 1st tomorrow. Amazing how we can hit so well against Vandy's all world pitchers and now can't figure out this average guy from Kentucky. Baseball is a strange game, for sure.

Good comeback to tie the game at 5 with cats coming to bat in b8th. Gators blew a huge opportunity in the 8th with bases loaded and 1 out. No clue how Fabian didn't score from 2nd on that hit. Hopefully it doesn't come back to haunt us.

The cat starter had given up 15 hits in his last 7 innings pitched. But before that slump he was actually pitching pretty well. Need to see if we can steal this game 1. Based on how crappy we play on the road we definitely need a top 16 seed and host a region.

Damn it. 7-5 ky now. Gators will need a rally in the 9th. Still can't find a shut down bullpen guy. Cats stole mo when we couldn't score in the 8th.

Agreed. Should have made some plays, that may not have shown up as errors, but were errors. It was also a mistake in the 8th for Fabian not to score from second on the single.
