Bama pitcher was lights out today. She owned us. We will certainly get a national seed, good tournament overall.
UCLA and Oklahoma look to be the cream of the crop.Alabama is playing absolutely great of late. Won 13 in a row. Fouts is tremendous. We missed Julia Cottrill, but that disastrous 1st inning on defense did us in. I predict we'll be the #4 national seed and if that's the way it works out, we will host a Super Regional against either Oregon or Louisiana, assuming the seeds win their regionals. Those 2 teams are ranked 13 & 14.
Agree, although UCLA has played a much tougher schedule.UCLA and Oklahoma look to be the cream of the crop.
Yep. Another typical Franco Aleman start. Has pitched very well since the 2nd inning, but got blasted early. He's either great or terrible and the one or two bad innings kill him every time. And we've blown several chances to score. No clutch hitting with runners in scoring position today, at least through the first 5 innings. Hoping for a comeback.dawgs jumped on us early. Down 4-1 in the 4th.
It's crazy now that Fabian and Rivera have heated it up at the plate, but Hickey is in a terrible slump and Armstrong didn't do much this past week. We need to be clicking on all cylinders to take the series at Arkansas.Loved that Sully pitched Barco in game 2 to get the series win vs. UGA. Would have been nice to get the sweep, but think the series win was sufficient to keep the momentum going. Think a series win at Arky will give us a real strong case for a top 8 seed. I don't know how much of an impact the conference tournaments have on seeds, my sense is not much unless we were to win or at least get to the final. The Thursday night game is enormous.
Would love a shutdown start tonight from Mace. He's pitched pretty well and hung in there and competed, but seems like more often than not when he pitches, we've given up 4-5 runs by the sixth inning. Would love to see him put up some zeroes early. The offense seems to find a way, and I'm really encouraged by the way they grind out abs and put guys on base. Other than that, let's just put up some clean games defensively. We don't have to be spectacular but no extra outs against these guys. It's crazy now that Fabian and Rivera have heated it up at the plate, but Hickey is in a terrible slump and Armstrong didn't do much this past week. Mace is still projected as a 1st round draft choice by MLB. He's got great stuff, but seems let little thing get in his head (like not getting a called third strike) and it throws off his concentration for a few batters that hurt him. Agree that he needs to be at his best tonight. In fact, the whole team does.Would love a shutdown start tonight from Mace. Go gators!
Men's tennis team in a tough spot right now, hopefully they can turn it around. Team tennis seems to have big mo swings. In Men's Tennis, #2 Baylor and #3 Tennessee won their matches today and will meet in the national semifinals. #4 Texas just edged out #13 Southern Cal 4-3 and await the winner of the Florida/Texas A&M match. Texas A&M just won the critical doubles point and put the Gators in the position of needing to win 4 of the 6 singles matches. The Gators won at #3 doubles 6-2, lost #2 at 3-6, came from 5-2 down at #1 doubles to tie it 6-6, forcing a tiebreaker. The Gators were up 4-1, but ended up losing the tiebreak and the doubles point. Florida had easily beaten the Aggies early in the year 5-2,, but barely squeaked out a 4-3 win in the SEC tournament. This could be a nailbiter tonight and it's on the Tennis channel right now.
Gator tennis team showed a lot of grit tonight. Losing that doubles point put them in a bind, but they battled back and pulled it out. Much tighter match than the 4-1 score indicates. Next up is Texas, who gave us one of our 2 losses on the season. Revenge, baby!Gators get the W 4-1. Closer than the score indicated. Off the the final 4.
I followed that on the live ticker. A solid performance. Hope we can finish it off.UF Men's Tennis beat Texas tonight 4-0 to move to the national title match against Baylor. The Gators won the doubles point and then won easily at #5 singles 6-3, 6-0. They then won a closer match at #4 singles 6-1. 7-5, then closed it out with a win at #3 singles, 6-3, 7-5. When the match ended #1 singles was in UF's favor at 6-4, 5-6, we were losing at # 2 singles 6-7, 2-3 and at #6 singles 2-6, 6-4, 3-4. The Gators have 6 national titles in women's tennis, but none in men's tennis.
I watched a lot of it on the Tennis channel, 400 on DISH.I followed that on the live ticker. A solid performance. Hope we can finish it off.
All that good momentum has evaporated this weekend. Maybe they can get it back in the SEC tournament.Baseball team sucks right now and may not even get to host a Regional. #6 Lacrosse lost in the Elite 8 today to #3 Syracuse 16-11. Gator softball moves on to the Regional finals with a 10-0 win over South Alabama. Natalie Lugo threw a 1 hitter, as Gator pitching has allowed 2 hits in 2 games. Somebody will have to beat them wtice Sunday to keep us out of the Super Regionals. Florida Men's Tennis goes for a national title tonight against baylor.
Unless they get some miracles from the pitching staff, they won't last long in Hoover. They play Kentucky at 10:30 am Tuesday. Who's gonna pitch? My guess is Brandon Sproat. If they lose, they're done. Win and they play Miss. St. Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Mace then, probably. All that good momentum has evaporated this weekend. Maybe they can get it back in the SEC tournament.
