Rep Bob Good (R-VA) says a surprise America First candidate will be on the ballot for House Speaker tomorrow

I’m not the biggest fan of McCarthy …but he’s not a RINO. These idiots who keep nominating Jim Jordan, after Jordan nominated McCarthy are fools,.. that’s includes my wife Boebert.
We are weakening the speakership with this BS. We already need to be underway going after the Biden regime and the DOJ. McCarthy has already given his blessing to open up all investigations.

After appearing to back away from McCarthy last night, our President Trump comes out with a statement this morning saying he met with House republicans last night and wants everyone to get behind McCarthy.

Meh. I'd rather burn it all down, but this is probably the smarter play.

McCarthy loses first ballot bid to be Speaker.

Meanwhile....
BTW the Twitters is claiming that multiple pubs, mostly in the Jordan camp I believe, were seen talking to AOC. Apparently they were asking her if any dems would consider not voting in order to lower the threshold that McCarthy would need to meet in order to win a vote yesterday. She apparently told them no, they would all vote and yesterday, they did.

Read an article that MC met with freedom caucus before the vote and rejected ALL their requests They apparently asked for votes on things like term limits and the fair tax. Seems reasonable to me and would have secured their votes on first ballot.

1.)The things they wanted would be good for America.
2.) these votes will go nowhere but this is good PR for the GOP
3.) any hope for future passage will require a long term PR campaign of these popular ideas that either help the GOP get bigger majorities or forces dems to vote for them.
4.) That MC totally blew them off is of concern that he isnt the man for the job.

"On the other hand, Democrats are fine with coronating leaders without critical thinking, but the sign that conservatives insist on having a lengthy process is welcoming.

It means there are critical thinkers on the Right, something that the Left lacks."

I love gridlock

House in session.

McCarthy nominated. Jefferies/Jeffries nominated.

Chip Roy then nominates Byron Donalds

Then adds 'We judge people not on the color of their skin, but the content of their character".

Vote totals for 4th vote:

Jeffries - 212
McCarthy - 201
Donalds - 20
Present - 1

Massive. Donalds kept all of Jordan's votes AND one pub voted Present instead of for McCarthy LOL

We'll see what happens, they should totally adjourn, no sense having another vote now.

I love

They have got 98% of what they want. Levin read the list last night.

Levin is spot on about this.

And the 5% they didn't get was term limits and fair tax? If so, that's a pretty big 5%.

This is how government works, folks. Politicians compromise with each other. The only difference here is the compromise is happening IN PUBLIC. Normally all these deals are made behind the scenes and then we have the vote and that's it.

Seems the Freedom Caucus isn't budging on this one. From what I've seen, I'm good with that.

McCarthy will end up being speaker. What is unknown is how much the Freedom Caucus gets in exchange for their votes.

Yikes. Lauren Boebert nominates Byron Donalds, closes with saying her favorite President (Trump) told them to vote for McCarthy, but adds he should have told McCarthy to give it up (looking at McCarthy) cause 'he doesn't have the votes'.

I think we are gonna be here for a while, folks.

Nominate Donald's again and give the speech to dems: You have no chance at speaker but you do have chance to make history by voting for the first Black speaker and making it a reality. It's the Houses Obama moment and dema can claim that they made it happen by making Donald's speaker

Dems feel if a black votes pub, he's no longer black.

BTW the vote is being shown live on CSPAN if anyone wants to watch. Or it's also on their Twitter feed.

They go to start the 7th vote, first order is they call to adjourn till 8pm.

The clerk says all those in favor say I, they do. All those against say Nay.

The Nays are clearly louder than the Is.

But the clerk says the Is have it LOL The Nays boo loudly and now they will vote LOL

26 or27 of the 45 freedom caucus members voted for McCarthy.

Again,McCarthy would not be my first choice but he’s nothing like the real enemy of the GOP the rat bastard McConnell. This POS is with Biden today rubbing one out over the disastrous infrastructure bill. These 2 are enemies of the people.

These Kamakze republicans have no end game and are proving nothing. Gaetz who backed Ryan for speaker is a real cuck. I have no use for this creep.

I want investigations on Biden and his Stasi and McCarthy has given his blessing. Let’s get going

McCarthy could cut a deal in 5 mins and the investigations could start tomorrow.

It looks like McCarthy needs to put his ego aside and make a deal, otherwise it may actually reach a point where the pubs pick someone else to avoid further 'embarrassment'.

Totally agree on the turtle.

Gaetz is now trashing Trump. He’s the ring leader and he’s not even apart if the freedom caucus.

They all have a meeting @ 8pm. Tonight. Hopefully they can come to a resolution and claim victory for getting a lot done. Vote for Mcarthy and let’s get going. Remember all these-blowhards voted for McCarthy for minority leader.

Gaetz is part of the Freedom Caucus. And I'm not his biggest fan, but even I have said I don't understand why Trump has always supported McCarthy.

This is the problem: You have about 4-5 guys (McCarthy and a few from the FC) that all want their way, and they aren't gonna budge an inch.

At some point, someone has to be the bigger person and give something up. McCarthy obviously thinks he's earned the right to not budge an inch.

We'll see if that strategy works out for him.

This is big. club for growth to back McCarthy after rule changes. CFG is the most conservative of all organizations.

McCarthy-backed PAC agrees to less spending, “open rules” in exchange for Speakership backing

Greg Nash
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is seen during the second day of the 118th session of Congress on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Allies of Republican leader Kevin McCarthy made a big concession on Wednesday night as the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a PAC that helps fund Republican House candidates, will not spend in any open-seat primaries in safe GOP districts, opening the door for a key conservative group to back him for Speaker.
CLF, which is endorsed by McCarthy, struck the deal with the Club for Growth, which is expected to support McCarthy for the top job assuming an agreeable rules package is struck including provisions the Club asked for originally. Included in that is a call for “open rules” on all major rules bills, such as appropriations, that would allow rank-and-file lawmakers to have amendments brought to the floor.

To everyone laughing, the only reason I was awake and on here is my lady is visiting family in Ohio and I was at work.

I've received "the opportunity" to work 6p to 6a over the last several months so I feel your pain.

Honestly I haven't hated it as much as I thought I might. The calls are certainly a lot more interesting than day shift calls (my neighbors bumper is hanging over my property line 🙄).

I don't hate it all. There hasn't been power the last few days so I'm basically playing with the dog and sitting on my ass in the dark for 20 bucks an hour and there's no people to deal with.

It's actually like I changed careers working night shift. It's that different.

I'm older than the rest of the team so I can't see sh1t but if you pretend like vision is overrated, it's awesome.

"Over the past decade, the House has grown increasingly autocratic. Rank and file members are routinely denied a chance to participate in the legislative process, committees are ignored, deals and loopholes for interests abound, and there is virtually no amendment process for any bills, large or small," the group continued.

"The outcome reflects the process: bills that cater to a handful of members in leadership and K Street lobbyists, but ignore the priorities of the voters," they added.

The group noted that the House members rejecting McCarthy had "made public a series of proposed reforms designed to democratize the House – to engage the broader membership in legislating, and bring accountability back to the People’s House," but McCarthy rejected those proposals.

"Rather than engage them in a good faith negotiation, Rep. Kevin McCarthy has instead maligned both the requests and the messengers," the group claimed. "He has publicly and through proxies leveled attacks against members of his own party, including threatening to deny committee assignments for those who continue to oppose him."

Ginni Thomas, Ed Meese and others out with the long knives.
