Ky Game Thread

I doubt it myself as I think they have quite a few losses this season. I don't think that was a top team that beat us tonight.
Of course not. Gators beat themselves with plentiful mistakes. Like I said, these things take time to develop. Sad thing is, we've gone through 3 coaches in 10 years and now this is our 4th. There was a time when something like this was unheard of in Gainesville.

I like that Napier is taking ownership. Not pointing fingers only blaming himself.

Yep I am not worried about Napier even if this season fell apart. I think he has a good plan for getting this team where it needs to be the next few years. As long as this recruiting class holds up he will be fine.

It’s going to take really good recruiting to get out of the hole that UF football has found themselves in. If he can do that he has a chance. If he can’t then we are back to square one in 3-4 years.

We are on the edge of a top 5 class. Been some years since that has happened.

The highlights. Not one play in there where you could tell the QB actually read the field and went to a secondary option unless I missed it. On the pick 6 even if their was miscommunication how do you throw that ball when the DB is staring right into your eyes and sitting on things to step in front. Even the plays where the coverage was good by KY Richardson seemed to be locked in whatever the primary option was in the play.

I am going to watch the Utah game highlights again to see if he mostly just got away with the primary option being open on his completions because if that is the case we may be in some real trouble. Even when I used to watch Jones mess he at least made it look like he was processing the field sometimes even though he was just locking in on the primary target in reality most times.

Well here is the Utah stuff and just like the KY game there is nothing on there to suggest he can read a defense good and hit secondary targets when he needs to. Maybe twice the whole game he does the obligatory look down the middle early then he goes to the clear primary receiving target for the play. I would say the only passing play on that tape a completion wasn't to the primary target for the play called was when he had to juke the guy on the 2 point play and hit Fraziers who was standing uncovered in the end zone. So unless I am missing it or its one of the very few passes not in the highlights we have a QB that in 2 games hasn't shown the abilty to make things happen passing wise when he can't hit the primary target of the play called.

Times…change. How much time do you need? Take all the time you need. lol.
Last two games at the “swamp.”

Enjoy the gloating. After 31 straight years of misery against the Gators, you deserve a little bit of pleasure in your life.

2 injuries reported today. RT Michael Tarquin went out in the 2nd quarter. LB Ventrell Miller went out in the 2nd half. Both have lower leg injuries.

Just how I see it. You beat us though. This KY team doesn't seem to be nearly as strong as last season and I wouldn't be surprised if you lose to both MS schools.

The Offensive Line is brand new and will gradually improve. I’m honestly a little surprised we endured the protection issues last night - but our defense had a spectacular game.

Also, the belief (not confirmed yet, but it’s likely) that we will have Chris Rodriguez back for Ole Miss. That is completely game changing. We had to roll with RB3 and RB5 at the Swamp.

Your line issues will persist all year. Your D was lights out last night and should keep you in most games.

Our line issues aren’t talent related, but a matter of youth. I don’t think that unit will become elite by any means; but it won’t remain as bad as it has been either. Even over the course of the game Saturday it improved.

Well, when your football program has suffered 4 decades of being owned by the entire conference I can understand why you'd gloat. Enjoy it while you can, as you said "times change."

Trying to look at it from a neutral point of view I just don't think your offense is good enough for the same season as last season. Without a dominant running game O line I think it will be tough against those MS schools and would really be surprised you went 2-0 in those games. I think 0-2 is more likely than 2-0 in those games but a 1-1 split and maybe 9-3 is possible.

I think most of us are still in shock; these are strange times for those of us who have endured the last 4 decades. No gloating at all from sensible UK fans.
Same here. Certainly not going to apologize for winning, but no need to talk trash on this board. I save my trash talking for the Vols and the Gamecock fans (many of whom are still in denial that we’ve beaten them 7 out of the last 8 times)

I picked Utah & Florida, so am 0-2 and that's why I NEVER bet on the Gators, or any other sports. Everybody knew going in to the season this was a rebuilding project. People got too high after last week and will overreact and be too low after tonight. I say just chill and see how the season plays out. We got outcoached and outplayed tonight.
Ocala,

Right there with you !

As William Jefferson Clinton said - "I feel your pain !"

LOL

You are not wrong. If what we saw this past Saturday was locked in, 10-2 or 9-3 would likely be the ceiling, and even that would require some things to go our way.

I just don't think that is the case, though. It was announced officially today that Rodriguez will be back for Ole Miss. Having our star All-SEC RB is a game changer for our running game. We will also get JuTahn McClain, another talented rotation piece, back from injury soon too. The RB situation was so dire in Gainesville we had to use receivers in the backfield at times. That's obviously not going to be the case long-term.

And again, regarding the O-Line... UK has two returning players that saw action last season...Cox and Horsey. Cox moved from Guard to Center, Horsey moved from Guard to Left Tackle. Everyone else was a sparingly used backup behind the likes of Fortner, Kinnard, and Dare Rosenthal last year, a Redshirt, or is new to the program. This was game 2 of a complete revamp. Our OL room, in terms of raw talent and size, is better than it has ever been at UK. It's just young and full of learning curves right now. I think the OL will be respectable as we get deeper into the season. The next two games are tuneups and will be big in that regard.

All of this barring injury issues, of course.

I appreciate the dialogue by the way. I have so much respect for the Florida program and The Swamp, it's nice to be finally be able to have a relevant football discussion with a Gator fan.

I will say UK football fans have shown their support before and during the Bill Curry era, no matter their records well below .500. It even showed when they filled their stadium at every home game. I see a few on this board are among those from those misery filled years of UK football.

I'm just glad K State and Kansas ended their losing streaks to Nebraska well before UF ended their winning streak vs UK.

Smoke isn't a bad RB though he isn't the bruiser Rodriguez is. I am looking forward to that Ole Miss game and seeing what the teams look like. Not sure if its just easy competition so far but Miss State with the transfers looks like their rushing defense has improved and that offense is hard to stop at times.

I sincerely hope UK takes the east this year. They've got good fans when it comes to the football program (we will leave hoops out of the conversation). UT and UGA games are the only 2 I think Cats are a bit overmatched. UGA for obvious reasons and UT because I think they are a bad matchup for KY. We shall see.

Yeah, that UT game worries me a bunch. Hooker burned our corners like a fine cigar, and I don’t see how we’ve upgraded our talent there from last year......if anything our CB talent has taken a step back

Pocket passers that spread the field and can work the mid to long routes will be problematic for Cats. Run oriented teams play to the Cats strength on defense.

It’s been announced that C-Rod will be available to play vs Ole Miss on Oct 1. Not predicting he will dominate, but it’s definitely a huge lift. Hopefully the OL stays healthy and continues to improve.

The secondary as a whole, even with the injuries to Tisdale and Geiger, is definitely improved. Deeper and more aggressive than a year ago. In terms of the corners, Valentine has really stepped up, Keidron Smith was a huge addition (obviously), and we have serviceable backup rotation pieces on both sides. With all due respect, I just don't agree with your assessment there.

I do agree that UT will be a tough out. Despite the improvement in the secondary, any team with that play style and lineup configuration will present some big challenges.

Last year we didn't have Oxendine, McCall, or Jordan Wright against UT...we will have to get some pressure on Hooker to have a chance to win....we couldn't do that last season.
