Is it time for the Mike White era to end?

Love these boards. 3 games ago Mike White was one of the most under rated coaches in the country. 2 games later he is one of the most over rated. Go figure.

I didn't see it but it looks like Appleby is still missing his shots. Did they actually let someone else play more PG this game than him? If so who?

Recall what I said at the beginning of the year? We don’t have a PG. We have a bunch of 2 guards trying to play PG. So we don’t have a real PG and we aren’t a good shooting team. Add on to that a coach that doesn’t have a good offensive system and we are going to have some trouble. You can’t win big games on defense alone.

We cut the lead to 8, then had 3 consecutive possessions that were appleby misses a 3, appleby misses a 3, appleby turns the ball over. That was basically the end of the game, as the lead quickly went to 14.

And the defense was not good against Oklahoma and was bad last night. How many back door cuts did they allow for easy buckets? They were overplaying the ball and then not providing help on the back side. And no adjustments were made to fix it. And the offense looked just like last year - perimeter passing, too much dribbling from a couple of the guys, too much one-on-one play and settling for bad shots. And again, no adjustments were made.

Bingo. White isn’t a good X’s and O’s coach. He very rarely makes any adjustments. And again I think his offensive system is “high schoolish” So anytime our defense doesn’t play great or get exposed we are in deep trouble.

About the only adjustment White likes to make is too really slow things down when you have a nice lead to allow opponents to come back and win the games like he did in the tourney last season.

Something tells me Stricklin is pondering some replacement for White in case he does like the Hindenburg.

You love these boards so much that you’ve only ever posted 8 times since 2009?

Yeah well Stricklin just gave the guy an extension for some reason. I was hoping we were going to fire him. So I was thinking fire the guy and Stricklin was thinking extension. I really do like Mike White. Really like able guy with a good personality and friendly, etc. but at some point you just have look past that and realize the guy can’t coach.
Like FSU and their Cornrows coach, we are stuck with Mike White for several more years as he signed an extension which lasts till 2027. If he is canned after this season, White is looking to pocket around $9 million if I read it correctly.

Name one single person here that said anything like that, besides maybe insta(and I don't even think he's said something like that).

People were complimenting the scrappiness of the team to play hard.

If you gotta lie in order to make it a "snappy" post, .....don't bother.

Felder played great in the first half today, so he gets rewarded by sitting the second. Another loss to a crappy team. Maryland has lost 3 in a row coming in. Very odd his personnel decisions in the 2nd half.
Maryland just let their BB coach go last week after giving him a 3-year contract in April. They had not only lost 3 in a row, but is a program in disarray. But the Gators did just enough to lose the game. Bad shots throughout the game, defense allowed 49% shooting. Looks like reality is once again setting in. Another Mike White team that will be middle of the pack in the SEC and be a marginal NCAA tournament team. Too bad, but this is wash, rinse, repeat, isn't it?

Bizarre. We cut their 9 point lead down to 1, then White goes with a new 5 and leaves them in there while for the last 5 minutes, makes not changes until Castleton fouls out. Again, I can only assume Felder got hurt, because he kept us in the game in the first half.

Yes. I have pretty much been saying this since year 3-4. Nothing is changing.

I said it after the FSU game that I didn’t think FSU was very good & they are not. They are bad. We have beaten 1 good team in Ohio St and it was a last second shot & in the state of Florida. The SEC is actually really good in basketball now. We will probably make the NCAA tournament somewhere between an 8-11 seed and lose in the first weekend. Same ol same ol.

SEC is deep. KY, Ala, Tenn, Lsu, Auburn, Arky and MSU are all really good. Will be another sweat it out on selection Sunday year....

Are you serious??? It's our boys on the hardwood so hellz yeah we care.

I never quite understood the mentality of not caring about a sport in your school. For some sports there may be barely existant caring. I don't expect the caring for volleyball or golf to be comparable to football.....or even close. However, the desire and welcoming of success in any sport shows some care.

Uf is a football school, but basketball is right on that level on the national scene and demand. If football represents cookies, then basketball represents milk.

This! I want UF to do great in every sport.

Those who ONLY care about football are kinda missing the point.

The gators are competitive at the national level in most all sports (even women’s basketball is showing signs of life). Top ten academically and athletically. If you’re not competing for championships your tenure will be short.

If we don't Sweet 16 this season, we need a change,

7 years, an Elite 8 in year 2.

Since that....NOTHING.
Agreed there. We've had talented teams in the past capable of reaching the FF. White simply effs himself in big games with bad coaching decisions. I think the enormity of it all gets to him in the moment. Coaches are like that. Their anxieties get the best of them in big moments.
