The cop was a little quick imo but I can't fault his judgment. Like many people, the subject believed that the charge could be debated on the side of the road instead of in court. Clearly it doesn't work that way.
If you believe that the charges are BS, fight it in court. Otherwise...
I wouldn't fire him for this. I might counsel him to be SLIGHTLY more patient.
Easy for me to armchair for more patience however. Hesitation is dangerous...but imo simply explaining that we aren't debating the charge here on the curb and that court is the proper venue for that debate..maybe 2 to 3 times, depending on the drivers agitation and/or aggressiveness.
This driver seemed calm but he was clearly using passive resistance to attempt to subvert lawful orders. That'll get you arrested and perhaps tased, like in this example.
Tasing is preferred over most other forceful actions btw.
