Gator Baseball

What a series coming up. I wonder if ESPN will televise it, or if we'll be pre-empted by more women's softball. JJ appears to be starting his kill-crazy rampage that we've all been waiting for. All the damage he's doing is coming in big spots too. Go

The Thursday night game is on ESPN, Friday night on SEC Network, Saturday afternoon only on SEC+.

That is true about JJ. As well as the rest of the team. In the last six SEC games, 24 runs have come with two outs. That is half the 48 total runs.

That is championship baseball.

So, stopped with the worries yet??? :D

Stick together Gators, and no worries mates...
I'm excited about the progress the team has made as the season has moved along. I'm very much looking forward to this weekend, the SEC tournament and the NCAA's. However, my nature is to always be concerned as we compete for championships. Watching as much Gator sports as I do, I always see areas where we could be better and what needs to be done to beat certain teams. Doesn't mean I don't bleed orange and blue, which I've done since the mid 60's. Just want our student athletes and coaches to succeed so bad.

Me too ocala, it's just that maybe we define success differently.
I see the successful Student/athletes doing well and being happy as the goal, (cake).
And the Championships as being the icing if it happens.

Some others, (not necessarily you) as seeing anything less than a championship as failure, and that's just to much to put on the kids imo. It's like the Lacrosse girls. They made a beautiful season and Big East Conf. cake, but missed out on the icing. That doesn't take away from the cake at all imoho.

We both can have our place at the Gator table. And it's not like I won't occasionally point out a deficiency on a team, (limp sticks) too. Or poor choices concerning QB's. Or players letting perfect 1st pitch strikes always go by, or not playing a larger portion of the roster in games, (stars & scrubs)... ;)

I try not to harp on one subject too long though, because it seems to me that it can become counter-productive if carried to far. I scratched my head along with everyone else about JJ, but I wasn't going to ride on him about it, or on Hill's turnovers when driving inside, etc...

I was at the airport to welcome back the team from the 1995 Neb NC debacle.
And I was in the SWAMP the next season to really welcome them back from stompin' the snot outta reFSUcks... :D Both were successful teams to me.

Can't argue with any of that. We're on the same side.

Are pitchers missing their spots with him because I know the conference wise scouting report was to pitch him out so he can't pull anything like he likes to and tries to pull everything, the bomb I saw was to left center in a middle in pitch, I think I saw him hit one to right center though this week sometime or last and he started going with some pitches, gonna need him to continue for sure...

the worries with baseball start with this team around now and post season play, that's when in the past it's been suspect and playing well below their potential, this year is different because no one is quite sure what the potential and level of expected play is, don't know if they are playing the way they are supposed to right now with the bats or if it's above themselves and not expected to continue...

JJ is going the other way with the outside pitch. That and he is not jumping at the first pitch. He gets in trouble when he tries to pull everything and when he gets behind in the count and starts guessing. He doesn't need to get pull happy to do damage. He's got power everywhere. You have to give him credit for sticking with it and putting this approach together, because he was completely lost. It can't be easy for someone with early success like he had to struggle like that. I really wonder if it has something to do with him catching again. He was our primary catcher his freshman year. It sounds like Rivera will be healthy enough to catch in a couple weeks and is too good defensively not to play. But I hope Sully lets JJ get some run there, because I do think it helps his offense.

Most projections have us as a #4 National Seed. I will take that in a heart beat.

Yep. Any seed that keeps us at home for a Super Regional is good with me. Miami has a losing record and may not reach the post season for the 1st time in 44 years! Baseball America has us as the #3 seed with UCF, Mercer and Navy in our Regional and hosting a Super against the Wake Forest Regional that includes USF, South Carolina & Liberty. They have FSU as a #3 seed in Kentucky's regional with Michigan & Wright St., with the winner going against the Louisville (#5 seed) regional winner in the Supers, which has West Virginia, UConn & Fairfield.

To add to the above post, College Sports Bracketology projects UF as the #4 seed, but with UCF, Jacksonville & UConn there, hosting the winner of the Arizona Regional that includes Baylor, Auburn & BYU. They have FSU as a #3 seed in the Miss. St. (#16) Regional with Southern Miss & Binghamton, with the winner going against the Oregon St. (#1) Regional winner that includes Cal St. Fullerton, New Mex. & New Mex. St.

I will be shocked, SHOCKED if two of the following teams do not flow into our regional or super regional; FSU, FGCU, USF, UCF.

None of those teams is likely to host a Region, so if they flow inot our super, they will have to win on the road.

I think FSU and/or FGCU will be in our region.

Yeah, I've had this feeling the NCAA will stick FSU and/or UCF in our region as well. Not fair to them or us IMO. How about pairing us and them with teams we've not played yet?

Big series starting tomorrow - UK @UF with the SEC regular season championship in the line, and big implications in NCAA tournament seeding

Going to be some good games I expect

I expect so. How long has it been since UK baseball was relevant?

Relevant ? Several years ago we had a couple of good teams when Miss States coach was our coach. But relevancy has been rare for us in baseball

But we got a helluva coach now - his 1st year, and we might host a super regional

Sully's teams have been pretty good in home regional and super series, regardless of who's in them. We've run into some teams that had some magic going in Omaha. This team is kind of playing like the teams we ran into.

Sully generally changes up things once the team gets to Omaha. If he is relaxed with the players about things like facial hair, interviews and the like in the regular seaons, the regions and the super regions, according to what I have read he clamps down when they get to Omaha. I think that approach in part that has lead to a lot of under performance.

He has been pretty positive and relaxed this year thus far and the players have responded.

Let's see what happens when/if he gets this team to Omaha.

I love Sully but I would love him even more if we can finally win the whole thing.

Won the series vs the Gators 4 years in a row, pretty relevant in that regard. But have been a middle of the SEC team past 5,6 years, not this season tho, thank goodness !

The Florida-Kentucky series is as close as it gets over the past 10 seasons -- tied 16-16 with both teams winning five series. Neither team has swept the other and the average score in that span is UF 6.4, UK 6.2. Overall, Florida leads the series 136-66-1.

Florida holds a one-game lead in the SEC standings entering the weekend. In 8 of the last 9 years, the Gators have entered the final weekend with a chance to win the league title. UF has won its final series of the reg. season in 7 of 9 years under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan.

sounds like we are due to drop one of these last series of the season

Simply getting pounded tonight. When our starters get chased this early we're in deep trouble because there's no reliable middle bullpen. We left 5 runners stranded in the first 2 innnings, had their pitcher on the ropes and couldn't get a couple more hits to pad the lead and get him out. I've never seen Faedo get hit that hard in his entire career at UF and I don't think he pitched that bad. They just squared up the ball throughout their lineup. Hopefully tomorrow night will be different, but when they do that to our ace, it scares me.

UK certainly getting some hits tonight, but that grand slam in the 4th really was what changed the complection of the game

That is what changed the game. We had them on the ropes with a 3-0 lead, bases loaded and two outs. Did not do anything.

Conversely, the next inning Faedo had two outs, no one on, and proceeded to load the bases. Unusual for him.

Then they hit a grand slam. That changed the whole game.

Congrats UK. You guys hit in the critical spots and we did not.

Now lets go to game two.
