Gator Baseball

4th best record in the SEC... by a game and ranked 5th in the country and on track to host... again. The World Series is a crapshoot. Line drives at someone, you probably lose. Line drives fall in, you probably win. Pitching and defense is the best way to consistently give yourself a chance. Agree that Hicks has to stay in the lineup. I would move Guthrie down, maybe swap him with Larsen, but I don't argue with Sully. If Hicks keeps hitting and Schwarz keeps coming, we really might have something going with India and Rivera coming back. Schwarz hits better when he catches though. Anyone know how bad Maldonado is hurt? It would suck to lose him.
After the game O'Sullivan said Maldonodo's shoulder didn't seem serious and that he was OK. Haven't read any updates since then.

O-man, I can agree with a lot of what you're saying there, however...

Kinda makes me wonder, if the key really is the bats, then why are the Gators not LAST in the SEC in W/L and in Rankings???

As I said earlier in the season, with the losses from last years team, and with the monster number of incoming freshmen on the team to replace those player losses, I expected all along that they would improve greatly by the end of this season, and they are/have.

I remain positive and hopeful for them,,,, and GooooooooGATORS!

apparently insta hasn't had enough direct examples of why and how this works from our past post seasons

Always stalking and spam attacking every little thing that I say, even when I'm having a decent conversation with someone else. You definitely have a problem that's badly in need of a permanent solution....

i shouldn't respond on topic in threads....

what's the permanent solution to not agreeing with everything you say as if it's against the law?

Unbelievable bottom of the 4th against Ole Miss & their 6'7" pitcher, McArthur. Guy threw 49 pitches in the inning and we scored 7 runs, ALL with 2 outs. It started off with a 15-pitch bases loaded walk by Christian Hicks, who started off in an 0-2 count and fouled off 9 straight pitches before drawing the walk. Ryan Larson followed with a grand slam and they tacked on 2 more with 3 hits and 2 stolen bases before they finally made the 3rd out.

Good Way to start the weekend. Lady Gator softball is winning 7-0.

Oh and UK lost. So we tie with UK, assuming we win tonight.

Baseball is up 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th. This should be a stat-padding weekend for softball with 3 games against North Texas and 1 against Florida A&M.

As of this morning we're tied with KY for 1st in the SEC East. Still behind Auburn & Miss. St. for overall best record in the SEC. Let's see how the weekend plays out. KY is playing lowly Georgia and got upset by them yesterday. We've got 2 games with Ole Miss, who still has a top notch pitching staff despite what we did to them Friday.

Florida (33-13, 14-8 SEC) Baseball moves into a 1st-place tie with Kentucky (31-15, 14-8 SEC) in the SEC East with an 11-2 win over Ole Miss .... :D

Singer off to a rough start. We're down 3-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd. Plus Kentucky is up on Georgia 4-0.

India just tied it up 4-4 with a 2-out single in the bottom of the 7th. Going to the 8th. Horvath now pitching.

Gators get three 2-out runs in the bottom of the 8th on hits by Schwarz and Maldonado to go up 7-4 going to the 9th. Michael Byrne in to try for his 12th save.

Gators win it 7-4 to stay tied with KY for the SEC East lead. great comeback.

JJ is really seeing the ball well of late. Getting India back helped. And getting to the UM bullpen was great. We did not hit the starter very well, but we had disciplined at bats and ran up his pitch count.

With Auburn's shocking losses to Alabama, we could very well be tied for first in the SEC if we win today

Yep, with Miss. St. at 16-8. KY is down 1-0 to Georgia in the 3rd. We need Kowar to have a quality start today.

So far so good. Through 3 innings he has allowed one hit, no runs and has thrown only 39 pitches,.

Another excellent win. The bats did extremely well against that pitching staff and our pitchers were good enough. Have a tough game against USF midweek and then off to Tuscaloosa for, hopefully, another sweep!! They are playing really well.

can't get my hopes up, right on par nearing the post season as usu...

Sully is a great coach. Getting a team to the College World series 5 out of 7 years is an amazing accomplishment and is the real hard thing to do in college baseball. Winning the title is a crapshoot and has to do more with breaks, a big play here & there and who gets hot at the right moment in time. To me, considering the players he lost off last year's team and the injuries that have plagued us, he has done an awesome job this year and I've got a lot of hope for post season success. It has been disappointing many times in the past with some of the loaded teams we've had getting knocked out in Omaha, but maybe we're due to win it.

Agree with ocala.

Also, this team has learned how to win close games. This team has learned how to come from behind and not panic.

The bats are heating up at the right time

well we might have one of those crap shoots since we aren't as good as usual or supposed to win it for once... we just don't ever hit the ball once we get to omaha every time... and the time we got to the final series 6 years ago, we had the f'in bases juiced and no outs and didn't score a single run in the 9th inning of the Championship in Game 1... That extremely pissed me off, much less ALL the 20 choppers sc hit in both games to beat us that you can only get bounces off of with the aluminum bats..

Yeah I remember that South Carolina series very well. That night we lost the game after having the bases loaded, no outs, my Mom (81 at the time) was with us and before the game started she went into a diabetic shock. We had to have EMT's come and inject her with insulin, then take her to the ER for analysis. She made the nurses move her to an observation room with a TV and then had them put the game on, then made the doctor hurry up with his diagnosis and release so she could get back to our house and watch the game on our big screen HDTV. Depressing loss, but I'll never forget my Mom's enthusiasm for the Gators.

Sully has no doubt lost in the CWS with the best team in the country a couple of times, including last year. But the job he does, getting his teams through the regular season in shape to host and then getting to Omaha is just unbelievable. It would be some karmic justice if this team were to win it, because this is a pretty workmanlike team, offensively. They just grind out ABs and pitch and play solid defense.

I'm VERY happy with the coach.
I'm happy with and for the team.
Just like them, I'd like the Gators to win the CWS.
And if they don't, I won't be all disappointed with them, just a little sad that it didn't happen for them or for us fans.

That said, GoooooooooooGATORS!

One midweek game to keep an eye on

(23) South Florida at (7) Florida, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.: South Florida will travel to Gainesville for a matchup of first-place teams from the American Athletic Conference and the SEC. The Bulls have won five straight games, while the Gators are on a nine-game winning streak. Both will be eager to continue their hot streaks in an in-state showdown.
