Emmitt is a great analogy.
We were weak-to-average at QB and RB for much of his career.
Emmitt HAD to carry a heavy work load.

Teams arent going to continue being dumb enough to let FSU have 100% success from one play like USF did. They just continued to leave their LB's back 40 yards and let them hit them with that draw over and over again out of shotgun, nothing else in the playbook was working at all. If USF had any QB play at all FSU would have genuinely been in trouble. USF was playing like an FCS team trying not to get blown out on offense and just trying to stay in the game.

Golson was 11-15 for 150+ yds and no sacks the second half and FSU scored on all 5 second half possessions but "nothing else in the playbook was working at all" ? Our definition of working is very different I think.

Oh do you mean after USF was still just trying not to get blown out and were on the field forever? It's like pointing out Driskels numbers being good this year, if you watched the game you know that was a s*** show for the OL and for Golson overall. They looked REALLY average/bad

Funny, I seem to remember that football games have two halves? How did he do in the first half?

FTR, Golson has a #18 ranking in QBR, behind Grier, Driskel and Brissett among others. In YPG, he is ranked #48.

No....you guys are wrong, USF and their high school coach are REALLY good!

Apparently 18th is considered bad and only the performance in the first half is pertinent. Does seem odd though that USF, tied at halftime, made it easy for Golson and the OL thereafter just "trying not to get blown out." BTW whoever claimed that USF was a really good team was not correct.

I did not say it was bad. But please note that one of the two teams where he earned that rating was against a 1-AA team. He had a very respectable 227 rating in that game and was in the top five nationally in the first week. Then came USF.

So, how did he get down to #18? I will tell you how. He did it with a pretty pedestrian 119 rating against USF. To put that in perspective, a cumulative 119 rating would be around #90 nationally. Or to put it even in more perspective, last year Driskel had a rating of 103, not much worse than Golson had against USF.

That does not bode well for the later games, even as pathetic as ACC teams might be.

Texas State is in the Sunbelt. They are bowl subdivision, not 1aa.

They are much much better than NMS also.

It doesn't take much to be better than NMS. Since the beginning of the 2012 season NMS has won a grand total of 5 games. It's actually hard to suck that bad with all the crappy teams out there but they get it done! Easily the worst team in FBS.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Golson and the fsu/USF game Troll.

Don't get it twisted, Texas State is absolutely one of the worst teams in football.

Thank God there's zero chance he can learn the system as the season goes on. And even more fortunate that there's a lesser chance the O-line can improve.

Imagine if everyone would have wrote OSU off after losing at home to a lousy Va Tech team last year...oh wait.

Don't get it twisted, Texas State is absolutely one of the worst teams in football.

True. However, NMS is only bested by one team to truthfully hold that title.

NMS = #127: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/cbs/128

curtailing the rationalization by reminding them what this thread topic is about is futile especially when they've already launched into the irrelevant UF opponent comparisons.

Much better? Don't think so. But who cares. That was not the debate. Why is it that you FSU fans are not able to stay on point?

We weren't trying to compare Florida QB performance with Golson. You tried to change the subject. No, we were trying to show how Golson looked against Texas State vs how he did against USF.

BTW, something that should really worry you is that USF is not ranked a whole lot better than Texas State..

Exactly what does that have to do with the subject at hand. Was anyone comparing the SOS of Florida vs FSU? Was anyone trying to compare the Florida QBs with the FSU QB?

No.

You FSU fans must have ADD probelms

So, now you are predicting that FSU will have the OSU kind of season?

Delusion, thy name is FSU fans

As a lawyer you should recognize this process. It is an old lawyer trick. They can't prove the main point, so they attempt to prove something else and pretend it is the same thing.

High School football. High School swim team. High School surfing team.

All back in the stone age.

I asked because my senior year in HS I played WR and safety. Now my main sport was basketball but that's another story. Anyway, our qb was a kid who transferred in from another County. He struggled mightily the first few games before he settled down and learned the plays(with my help of course) but by the end of the season the offense was on fire. We talk about this all the time now. I bring that up because Golson is new to the city, new playbook, doesn't know which receiver he can trust yet. It's all mental for him right now. He'll be OK. He'll improve and the passing game will become a strength because we have extremely talented young wide outs.

Like I wrote, tap your heels three times and keep repeating that to yourself. You got a player that has competed in college for what, four years? One with turnover problems that was apparently a ND cast-off. He might improve. But history suggests not.

Enjoy.

Lol OK. Smh

You should be shaking your head. That Golson went from damn good in the first game to pretty pedestrian in the span of two games, against similar opponents, should worry all Noles everywhere.

Interesting, UF fans were licking their chops to get Golson a few months ago and now he's a Nole and hot garbage.

Also interesting that FSU has "serious issues" on the OL, while one of the main reasons he did not choose to go Florida was because of you the OL, or lack there of.

Look at both sides of the mouth telling other fan bases how to think about their team. JK

Not true at all. Most UF fans felt we needed to develop the younger guys.

Possibly true, but that's not who makes the decisions for your program.

What does Jim McElwain think of Golson’s visit to Florida? In the SEC teleconference McElwain wouldn’t confirm Golson’s visit but he did hint at some interest in the Notre Dame quarterback.

“We’re always looking to help the organization fill holes where needed,” McElwain said on Wednesday. “Him mentioning us is exciting. If transfers are a fit, we’ll do everything we can to get the balance we want.”

It was down to UF and FSU for EG. UF played it cool publicly, but they rolled out the red carpet behind the scenes.

Is someone suggesting Mac wouldn't have taken Golson if he wanted to go to UF? Pretty sure Mac would have accepted him on the team and put him in the QB mix with the others to find a starter.

I don't think anyone is questioning that. I think we're debating if we Gator fans were drooling over the prospect of getting him, or just wanted added depth to the QB position.

Although trav seems to think we were drooling. I certainly wasn't.

What?

now he's a Nole and hot garbage.

I think he is who we think he is. A QB that has a lot of experience and a QB with a lot of flaws.

One wonders, while playing behind the FSU line, if he is not wondering if he should have gone elsewhere.

Really? And you know this....how?

Not saying we would have turned him down had he wanted to come to Florida. But I am not saying had he come to Florida he would have won the QB competition either.

I wanted Golson here, and I'm sure Mac did too. That wasn't 'drooling' though. We had 2 scholarship QB's and then a bunch of walkon's, he would have been welcomed here if even for depth but that's completely different than thinking he would come be a savior here. I think the general consensus though was that we needed to know what we had in the two young QB's by letting them take their lumps, that's how I remember it.

I work with his cousin.

( no, he's not my manager at Taco Bell).
