Tolerating crap like this in fear of "escalation" only serves to embolden criminal behavior thus escalating violence on the innocent by predatory elements of those communities.

It's the definition of not being able to see the forest through the trees.
"Broken Windows" theory of law enforcement?

Correct...but imo LE posture, and specifically our response to "broken window-esque" behavior from the lawless elements in our culture, is far more important than the conditions of actual structures.

When we (and I mean specifically LE) feed into the narrative and portray criminal behavior as acceptable, the criminals will step it up a notch and push the boundaries.

By not knocking a few skulls together and taking several people to jail in the scenario listed above, that community got more dangerous. And that sort of thing is endemic in Chicago, NYC, LA, ect.

Do they have the problem where a small demographic commits a large percentage of the violent crime?
I don't understand the question.

The demographics in Brazil are very different than here, Whites are 47% and Blacks are 43%. So it's not going to be an apples to apples comparison when you look at crimes committed by race.

I'd assume a majority of the homicides are gang and drug related, but I'm not an expert on Brazilian crime statistics.

This was in Brazil, but it’s still the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
So 2 armed men killed two unarmed men?

@GatorTheo if the other 2 men had guns, would that increase their chances of being alive today?

Would it have decreased the chances that anyone got shot?

Think logically, without an emotional fear of guns, and you know what the answer is.

So, you need more guns to defend yourself from all the people who have guns? You'd love some of the third world countries.

No silly.

You just need to call the magic violence fairy to magically whisk all the guns away.

Then EVERYONE will be safe!

I think all you have to do is piss yourself, go fetal, suck your thumb and rock yourself slowly and he'll show up. Or have you already tried that?

I'm not the one who needs a gun to be a man.

So it seems Theo isn't really fazed by this exchange of gunfire (Note his response to the earlier example involving a DGU, he basically impled that guy was a criminal for defending himself with a gun), but IS worried about the potential of introducing 2 more guns into the scenario, even if it would likely lead to fewer or no gun deaths.

IOW, it seems that Theo just wants fewer guns. Even if fewer guns leads to more gun deaths.

When your politics are based primarily on emotion, logic becomes very clouded.

I get it, I think guns are scary too. I treat them with a ton of respect. The first time I took my boys to the range we spent nearly 45 minutes on gun safety. Several times we had "learning" moments about treating every gun like it's loaded and ready to fire, proper use of the safety, how to check and disarm a weapon, when and where to point the muzzle when carrying the gun, etc.

They were bored but it's way more important than learning how to aim and shoot. I want my kids to be the voice of reason if they are at a friend's house and a gun comes out (which the first lesson there is, if they don't let you take charge GTFO of there).

I think I've finally figured Theo out: He places a priority on fewer guns over fewer deaths.

The rest of us want fewer deaths. We don't care if we need more guns to accomplish that.

But you have to admit, a LOT of your fellow gun lovers do believe a gun makes them more manly.

So let's tackle this, shall we?

Can a gun make one more manly? I'll say yes...and here's how.

If my home is invaded by, let's say, 6 men who intend to steal from me and commit acts of violence on my family...or let's just say 1 man, who is armed, comes to my house to do the same. Is it more manly to...

A. Be the man of the house, be prepared for whatever may come, and defend your family and your home from those that wish to do harm? Even if that means killing the intruder or intruders?

...or

B. Not be prepared, not protect your home or family and instead rely on begging or pleading these men to only steal certain things or only commit certain acts of violence on certain family members?

A. does sound more manly to me. So yes...I guess guns can make you more manly? Go figure, who knew?
