If ANYONE has problems with the meaning of DEI...THIS is EXACTLY what it is right here, and what happens when you hire people to be equal, instead of giving the BEST candidate the job. It is a democrat thingy.

In Alabama...

Section 13A-6-23
Menacing
(a) A person commits the crime of menacing if, by physical action, he intentionally places or attempts to place another person in fear of imminent serious physical injury.

Intent is the key. If you're scared because a dude is walking around with a sword, probably not a crime.

If the guy points the sword at you or says, "I'll cut your head off," bingo.

Same goes for a gun.

These two laws aren't the same btw. Ours requires intent. Florida's does not necessarily require intent.

Meh. I've sold guns to people in the arbys parking lot in lake city and had law enforcement called out. Just told him I was making a private sale and letting him thoroughly examine the weapon prior to purchase. Nothing's come of it yet.

Nor should it.

I've been called to situations where people were walking through a neighborhood carrying an AR15 in their hands, not slung (bringing it home from a friend's house) or the whacko I mentioned with a sword.

The sword whacko also had meth so he went to jail for that. The AR guy went about his way.

Maybe I'm just a coward but there were too many spectators and too many potential combatants for that scene to be controlled by two officers.

I suspect both officers know the neighborhood, residents or both well and allowed that knowledge to underestimate the situation or complacency overwhelmed their judgement and situational awareness. Also never have I seen two officers take that long to gain control of a subject and then not place that individual in restraints.

Remedial training is advised, with a quickness.

100% agree with everything you said.

And sometimes those are the numbers and the odds but if that's the case, you do NOT walk away from your partner or your vehicle until help arrives.

If all of the above fails and violence is inevitable, you become the aggressor and you pray to God that shock and awe does the trick.
