It seems like that's now the accepted measure of success for Florida basketball - win 20 games and make the NCAA tournament. Never mind winning the SEC title or being a Top 10 team or making the Sweet 16. Pretty low bar. We used to bash Leonard Hamilton for doing just what we're doing - winning no championships (in a much tougher league), winning 20 games and losing early in the Dance. And now we're Ok with that, plus losing to Hamilton every year. Huh?

Would you prefer they not make it at all?
I get being optimistic and pulling for our team but we're inconsistent. Of course making the tournament is better than not but direction of the basketball program isn't very promising...I think we want to win titles and going deep into the tournament consistently.

It is extremely amusing to sadgator that so many posters here are acting like this is some kind of a novel thing under White that has never happened before. Ask the guy we just named the court for all about losing early in the tournament or not making it at all. He had quite a bit of experience with that...

One of the many differences between Billy and Mike is Billy didn't have talent on the court standing around like statues. Billy also had no problem getting into the tourney during those early exits. Most of us knew it was a matter of time before Billy would break out of that slump of early exits.

Billy D won 2 titles and we were in the tourney most years...winning the SEC several times...final 4 several times, elite 8 and 16...yeah there were some years where we rebuilding and made the NIT but Mike White is no Billy Donovan. Sorry Sad have to disagree with your point on this one. Under Mike White one game we look like killers and the next game we lose or come from behind by 20 to beat a bad team.

We'll see how the season ends up and if we make the tournament but we have like 1 signature win this year against Auburn who only scored 47 points. We have 4 games left so we'll see how it goes.

At UF, a future HoF coach didn't win a NC in his last 8 seasons and he finally left on a losing season.

So now a young Mike White is supposed to come in to a follow him and quickly move a traditionally non-B-Ball school right to the top of college B-Ball.

Nope, no unrealistic expectations from a thoroughly spoiled arrogant fan base involved there....

Sorry, but to me, the Gators getting 20+ wins and going to a post season tourney every single year is absolutely exceptional for any UF B-Ball coach in our history. WTF-UP!

There are two concepts we keep intermixing...and they are apples and oranges...

One is performance of the team game to game (and growth of the team season to season)...

The other is end result of a season.

On the first, sadgator has been very clear that he shares some of the concern here about the way the team plays on a night in and night out basis and the way the team is being developed overall.

On the second, sadgator would say that White has done a great job of finishing the seasons strong and getting his teams into a position where they should be.

If your frustration as a fan is on finishing with 20 win seasons and first round losses, sadgator would respectfully say that your concern is focused on the wrong factor.

Mike knows B-Ball, proven by being named a CoY in 3 different conferences.

Mike keeps his STUDENT-athletes academically eligible and moving towards degrees.

Mike's players don't end up on the Sunday morning front page.

Mike's players are strong in the community service areas.

Mike NEVER embarrasses UF by doing anything that would lead to negative PR.

And on top of all that, he wins 20+ game/year and goes to a post season tourney every year, while his players are progressing and setting UF stat records.

Those facts are probably why UF top notch AD would give him a raise and a contract extension to ensure that he stays at UF....

Yeah...now if he could just design an offensive set of any type to take advantage of an inside match-up when we absolutely need to score, we’d be all set...

Tonight is the biggest game of the season. Win against a quality opponent probably puts us comfortably in. We’d probably have to lose out to miss it. Lose it, and it could get a little dicey. Wins at UT and at UGA are not givens.

As a very long time Gator fan of all the sports, I'm comfortable with where the Gators are and where they are going. Couldn't ask for much more when looking at the BIG picture.. We continue to lead the SEC in all time SEC-C's and the NC's come on a regular basis.

Constantly 'pickin the nits' is for the twits, but that's JMOHO's, as always... ;)

If they lay a wet fart tonight, it is going to suck...they have every reason to bring their best game this evening...getting a win would be gigantic...

Saturday at Rupp not a must win. Tonight at home against LSU feels like almost a must win. We need to defend home turf tonight because we haven't played very well on the road most of the year. It would put a lot of pressure on the at georgia and at tennessee game. Again, 2 more wins puts us in for sure, 1 more win and we are on big time bubble and probably need 1 win in SECT, lose out and we will need a deep run in SECT.

HUGE win...

3 games left, but I think we are in!

@UT
@UGA
UT

All 3 winnable

winning 2 out of 3 is most likely

Looking like we are going Dancing

The best game of the year for the Gators. 17 assists to 5 turnovers. They haven't come close to handling the ball that well all season. Scottie Lewis had his best game as a Gator. Johnson was a stud and Nembhard was back to his old self. There's more to it than just making shots. It's about taking care of the ball, keeping it moving, keeping the players in motion , then finding the open man. They did it tonight very well and beat a qaulity team. Excellent win.

1 more win should lock us in. Kenpom has us at 77% now. Lunardi had us as an 9 seed coming in, but we will most likely move up a spot or two after tonight.

Ball was whipping around. Everybody driving to the lane for either a good shot or a kick out. When LSU tried to press, Gators handled it no problem. Best game of the year by far for Lewis, who seems to be figuring out what he can do on offense. IF we play like that, we are absolutely a threat in both upcoming tourneys.

Some of what I saw from the bandwagon driver's seat....

FG% -- UF .548 - LSU .441 o_O

3's -- UF .429 - LSU .261 o_O

TO's -- UF 5 - LSU 8

RB -- 33 to 33

Stl -- 3 to 3

UF 81 - 66 LSU (-15)

Every time sadgator reads that, he sees it as Ken-PORN...which is either an illegal site run by a loser out of his mother’s basement or a male review site...either way, it is definitely something you’d want to stay away from...
Says the guy posting this at 1:34 AM.....no doubt from his bed while perhaps perusing porn himself......

Wow, ugly ugly ugly. One day it would be nice not to get blown out by bad teams. But we tend to have 2-3 of these every season under white.

Play your best game of the year vs. LSU and then come out lethargic and lazy the next game, turning it over like crazy the first half and getting very few decent shots off. By the time they woke up halfway through the 2nd half it was too late. The consistent thing the last 4+ years has been the inconsistency - the inability to string together quality games. I watched Gator lacrosse and softball and only tuned into this game during breaks until the softball ended with 9 minutes left in the BB game. Disappointed, but not surprised.

And that's why it doesn't really matter too much to me how badly UF beat LSU, nor what seed UF gets in the tourney. It wouldn't completely surprise me if UF lost in the round of 64.

And if UF did lose in the opening round? There would be those that would excuse it and say "Well, if we hit our shots we would have won."........as if that wasn't the case for every team that loses.

I didn't watch the whole game...more of the same. Crazy how we can look amazing and the next game we play like crap. I went into the garage and built shelving and ended up watching the Duke and Nevada game later. IMO it's all coaching...I think that MW is a good coach but can only take us so far. He'll be our coach next year so I hope that he can build off of this season. When I watch his pressers he seems like a guy who isn't in the weeds about the 'state of the nation' he's very realistic and seems to coach hard but it's not getting done consistently. We have a couple of games left so in my mind...I'm going to wait and see how it plays out but a big disappointment with how we played yesterday.

How many games this season have we been down 15 (plus) or so??
A dozen, maybe?

why is the team having to be motivated after getting down?
Why are they carelessly turning the ball over in the end of Feb.

why are we still having droughts like yesterday of 9:49 WITHOUT A FG?

a good coach can manufacture FG’s... layups/dribble drives etc

3-4 minute droughts happen (to the best of teams)... 10 minutes is a problem.

While every loss is not due to the crappy/incompetent/corrupt SEC officials, some most certainly are.

Tennis-sea's 1st half smothering defense = SEC officials no-calls
Home-court advantage my aching azzz....

Always a key for the game, put Blackshear in foul trouble early...o_O

And what was offensive charging on one end of the floor,,,,,
was called defensive blocking on the other end.

A cynic might even think that the SEC wanted to get a couple more teams into the dance, while keeping certain other highly rated teams seeding in the Top 3....

Naw, they are all true blue and they certainly would never make it about Conf. $$$$$$$. o_O
Just follow the true blue....

The rather obvious tip-off, was when the game commentators poo-pooed that the fans and 'even the coaches' at times, would blame a loss on the official's calls. (attempting to blunt that valid spear imo)

But of course, when Mike is your prime target, then the officials made perfect calls and anything else is just more 'fake news' by the clueless...

So, 18 wins, 10 vs the SEC, means nothing good for Mike, because his team has lost some games instead of winning every single one. And those fewer losses always way over-shadow the many wins. Just ask the nay-Sayers that have never done squat for Gator B-Ball, except whine and snivel from their conformable armchairs...

Florida played horribly the first half. They were uninspired, turning it over like crazy, not moving without the ball and hardly getting any decent looks. Could a couple of fouls have been called? Of course. But that's not an excuse for the terrible effort from a team coming off their best game of the year. They finally decided to play with purpose about half way through the 2nd half, but it was too little too late. They were outplayed and deserved to lose.

UF was called for 18 fouls, Tennessee 15. We were 8-12 from the free throw line, UT was 7-13. UT had 16 assists and 9 turnovers, we had 12 assists and 14 turnovers, 11 turnovers the 1st half. They had a player, Fulkerson, who would not be denied and played with fire the whole game. To me there are no valid excuses for the poor performance and ultimate loss.

I’m going to say it a thousand times. The inconsistency of the team/program just drives me up a wall. If you ever want to make a run in March Madness you have to at least have some consistency and I just haven’t seen that under White.
