Basketball

Strange scheduling this year..... We’ve already played UGA twice and play Vandy for the second time on Tuesday, but have yet to play the Gators.

I predict a split with each team winning at home. We usually struggle at OCC.

I was just thinking that...Like "Dont we usually play UK at lot sooner at their place?"

Mike White wasn’t even that good at La Tech. Yes he had a good record but he never once made the tournament while there.

They CAN because they are inconsistent enough to beat (or lose to) anyone on their schedule...but it ain’t a great bet at this point...

That was a terrible time for that clunker...

It was one of the most ill-timed disgrace-type losses sadgator has seen in a long time...

you can’t deny it...

And making the tournament would mean....?

that next year you'll still sit here saying Mike White has done a good job and beware finding a better coach?

There are two separate evaluation points...and they can viewed be independent of each other....

One is how the team’s play matures, grows, and develops during the course of the regular season (including individual player development)...

The other is making and/or advancing in the tournament...

White hasn’t been horrible on the second, and there is still a chance we make the tournament this year, so that would be a plus....

But sadgator will agree with you that the team play and development factor has not been good...we don’t seem to build on anything, and even though we can have good individual play from moment to moment it doesn’t sustain...yesterday the team looked absolutely lost and there didn’t seem to be any sort of plan or adjustment at all...it was, ISO, the worst loss of White’s tenure.

sadgator ain’t gonna give up yet, but that was a bit of a disheartening eye opener for sure...

That’s great and all but have you not been watching the last 5 years?? This team is just like all of the Mike White teams. Consistently inconsistent. Honestly nothing has surprised me with the basketball program since White has been in charge.

Overall inconsistent play...we've got great talent...turnovers, bad shooting again especially from the arch, rebounding was good in the first...I had to listen to the game so I didn't see it but it's all coaching IMO. They are saying worst road lost in the last 4 years...not good.

The Thunder are 32-20. Doubt Billy will come back home.

We will be mediocre for a while.

Doubt it too...but we need a new coach IMO. We need someone that can win consistently and compete on the court. Billy D is a Legend at UF...great coach. We can still dream.

Also a lot of us wanted Spurrier back when Muschamp and Mac showed up.

Honestly as good as Billy is I don’t think it is a great idea for legends to return to where they really became legends at.
We just need to move on from White. I’m really hoping this is his last year but he’s likely going to get 1 more, which I’m not a fan of. The good thing is he isn’t a Stricklin hire so maybe Stricklin is looking to hire his guy like he did with the football program.

True enough, with the way this team plays, it's possible to win both games vs UK.......but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Um - yeah, and it’s “possible” UK wins their 9th championship this year too

But the only thing with less probability than either of those happening is me winning the lottery.... and that’s because I don’t play

As troubling as the loss was yesterday, the final chapter has not been written on this team yet. White is not in any danger whatsoever of being fired after this season...

anybody who thinks so is completely unreasonable...

I think you're biggest issue is that you don't know what you're looking at when you watch basketball/this team.

I watch college ball and a decent amount of NBA all the time, and a lot of that time with a buddy of mine who's been a coach for 20 years. He's a life long Kansas fan (who wouldn't be sad to see Bill Self go) so e wet time we have a chance to watch a Florida game together, we do.

his very first words when we turned the game on yesterday (Florida was down 19-9 I think) were "what? How in the world is Florida down ten to a bad Ole Miss team? They're better than that."

So as we watched the game, he just kept being dumbfounded by what he was watching. And one of his biggest comments? He noted that every time they'd show Mike White, he acted shocked and confused at what was going on, like he didn't know how to address it, because obviously, he didn't, because nothing changed.

I think White is in way over his head.

Probably true. sadgator has admitted many times, he really doesn’t understand basketball coaching or strategy very well...for sadgator, it’s always been kind of a “know it when you see it” feel for how a team is playing...

yesterday, it looked wrong on many levels, and sadgator started really paying attention to some of the points of criticism many folks here have raised...

that's the way it always looks. It reminds me of a lot of high school, or even middle school teams
That are poorly coached. They start out in their sets and then seemingly abandon everything they know. Bad shot selection, awful, often times non-existent paint play, both defensively and offensively.
Hard to watch.

it becomes street ball and it breaks down to people just running around and passing without any other purpose than because they've gotten themselves I. Trouble and hope they can kick it out to someone who isn't in trouble...yet...and then the process repeats until someone takes a shot. Which then ends up in no follow through to the basket or any real attempt by someobody to get the rebound

horrible to watch.

Pitiful little attention beggar, kinda sad really, but here ya go,,, yet again.
Here to foul up yet another thread with his always village idiot smelly crap.
BothTotally Clueless and Boring is any ugly combination.

Never need to read his posts, because they are always going to be,,, what they are, and what he will always be. This asswipe stalker arrives to spread his usual crap, and to be the lonely despised drunk loser that he is...

There once was a goater named dunny,
who was always trying to be funny.
But with his head up his butt,
and a load of beer in his gutt,
when it came to the girls he got nunny...

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

We're living off the shot and making good shots from the arch and from the free throw line tonight..really would like to see us driving it inside more.Even if we can't post up much...work it inside. Nice ball movement tonight and still to many turnovers against better teams but we're taking care of business with 7:34 left

Ball movement was excellent especially in the second half. I like the passes into Blackshear and then kick out to open shooters. I know A&M is struggling but it is a road win. We will see if they can build on it.

Since they win when I think they will lose and lose when I think they will win I have decided to believe they will lose the rest of their games.

Fantastic ball movement most of the game. Good shot selection was a result. Good effort on the defensive end tonight. Let's see if we can string a few more of these together.

Expect the unexpected with White’s teams. Again they are consistently inconsistent. We played good and it was a good win but watch we will lay an egg on Saturday.

We are 4th place out of 14 SEC teams.....everyone chill TF out on Coach White.

The next two are MUST wins though because our last 5 conference games after that are TOUGH (UK twice, @UT, @UGa)

I predicted that uf would win against ole miss and lose vs texas a@M ......another reason I dont waste the effort trying to play the brackets in the NCAAT.

Hopefully they can keep it going. This is the way people expected them to play before the season began.

What are you even talking about? Everybody has been complimentary after the game. It's good to get a win and it does show the potential. That being said......

The SEC is even worse than usual and would be fortunate to get 4 teams in the tourney.
Texas A&M is not a good team, even in the underperforming SEC.
UF is not out of danger yet. This game proves there is a consistency issue.....just like people have said almost all year long.

It's been commented before that whenever UF does have a well rounded single win, certain people act like everything is great now....only for UF to lay an egg the very next game. Let UF prove it on a consistent basis.....then change the tone.

If we don't shoot well from the outside we lose...pretty good defense overall and rebounding from what I've seen...turnovers have been an issue this year. Strong performance tonight.

Important win for our chances to makes the Big Dance. Nembhard, Locke & Johnson were great. Blackshear was mediocre and Texas A&M isn't very good, but an SEC win on the road is nice. This team has the talent and potential to be great. We just aren't. Vandy is another must win Saturday. Go Gators.

Had a 19 point lead about 2/3 of the way through the first half. Their coach went to a smaller lineup and pressure defense and cut the lead to 7 at halftime. Blackshear has been terrible tonight. 9 minutes of playing time with 2 points, 6 turnovers and 4 offensive fouls. Payne hasn't been much better. Jitobah inconsistent, but played a lot tonight.

2nd half was close most of the way, but UF maintained the lead throughout. Arkansas hustled their tails off, but without all SEC player Isaiah Joe in the lineup, they just didn't have enough talent. Important win. Free throw shooting was great and the sophomores - Locke, Nembhard and Johnson made sure they won, especially Nembhard & Johnson down the stretch. Now on to Lexington.

Goes without saying, that was an important win...

They need 3 wins with 5 left (2 of which are against UK) and the SECT...

It is quite a difficult set up from here...
Honestly I think 2-3 in last 5 gets us in. That would put them at 11-7 in SEC and most likely 4th place. We got in at 9-9 last year, and our OOC is much stronger this year.

I think we need to get to 11 wins

lots of opportunities coming up...

UGA is the easy one, but it’s on the road

LSU is ripe for the picking on the ODOME.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: -- B-Balls version of a fevered brain... :confused:

UF/Mike are now 17-9, 9-4 SEC, as they move into a tie with LSU for 3rd place in the league standings. -- UF 73 - 59 Ark (-14)

Leaves me wondering how well they might have done, IF both Gak and Bassett had been healthy and available all season? o_O
I guess it's a good thing that the young/new players had Mike and his staff's coaching skills, to take up the slack in the missing big man experience.

More Shooting Digression under Coach Mike White:
For a 3rd consecutive game UF shot 50%+ for the game, including a 63.2% 2nd half.

Nembhard said. "It just ended up that we were the ones scoring." (17 Pts,7 Rbs, 4 Ast)
Added Kee-tae: "When the play broke down, I just happened to get past my defenders and make the smart decision for my team." (24 Pts, 10 Rbs)
"We strung together some stops and got to the rim," UF coach Mike White said.

~ They put the game away by outscoring Ark 19-9 over the final 7-plus minutes.

Tale of the Tourney so far: The victory over Ark was a "Quadrant-2" win, meaning the Gators are a combined 7-9 in Q-1 and Q-2 games against the #34/353 SoS (including being ranked #11/353 in their non-conference SoS).
==========

Next Game: Here's to hoping that our Gators can overcome the crappy SEC officials,,, and beat kensucky... Sometimes, I just have to turn the game off and not watch it,,, due to the Rupp version of the SEC Officials....

Note: In the last dozen years @ UK.
UF has won twice, Mike 1/4 and BillyD 1/8, one each and both wins vs Cal-Cheat. o_O

2019-20 -- #1 SEC Kensucky--Cal-Cheat are 20-5,
10-2 SEC
(sorry taco, but losing to them @ Rupp would not be laying an egg)
