And They're Off and Winning Again...

Kayli Kvistad earned the first SEC Player of the Week of her career and first
since Kelsey Stewart in 2015.

Kelly Barnhill was selected as the SEC Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive week and fourth time overall this season ... The UF career record is 6 SEC PoW awards.

Who's ever heard of an ERA at 0.17 for a pitcher that's 20-0 as the starter?
And she's currently on her 2nd streak of 40+ scoreless innings pitched (43) this season.
This season, Kelly has given up 0 HR's, 0 triples, and only 9 doubles....
The KICKER is this,,, she's only a true Soph, so she's got 2 more years as a Gator Pitcher!!!
Being humble, she knows that she has a team behind her with a nation's leading .986 fielding %.

* Team ERA 0.70, and Gourley was the 12th pick in the 2017 NPF Draft this week.

As great as this year's softball team is, I'm concerned about our ability to score runs against elite pitching. Last year's team had the same problem, and the team batting averages and other stats are very similar. The difference is that this year we've got Kelly Barnhill being almost unhittable and Gourley and Ocasio looking just as good as last year. I just think that when you get to Super Regionals and the World Series, it's going to be really hard to shut those teams out. But it sure is fun to watch them compete. They seem to really have a special bond as a group and support each other extremely well. I, also, hope they NCAA doesn't match them up against another SEC team in the Super Regionals again.

And let's not forget the lacrosse team. Conference Champs again, 14-2, ranked #2 in the county (#8 RPI). Wish they were on TV and even SEC+ some. It's a fun sport to watch.

The Gators (34-2, 10-1) are 11-1 this season when facing ranked opponents with their lone loss against Auburn by 1-0 decision

This stretch includes six shutouts and 10 games where Florida has held ranked opponents to one run or less.

Florida has only allowed 35 runs, 25 earned, through 36 games. It's the fewest total runs allowed in the nation.

The Gators' pitching and defense are incredible, no doubt. I've watched all but 2 or 3 games and love this team. But I've also watched teams like Arizona, Oregon, Washington & Oklahoma and they are going to be very, very difficult to shut out. Arizona in particular has a tremendous offense and 2 great pitchers. The series this weekend at Tennessee will be kind of a window into the post season because their offense is the best in the SEC and it will be interesting to see if Barnhill & Gourley can shut them down.

Maryland proved that any team can win a game on a given day.
However, the Gators have proven repeatedly that they can beat anyone on most days, and they have likely played the toughest schedule in the Nation.

April 25, 2017 -- http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d1

1. UF 44-3 -- (UF plays an SEC schedule, 10 SEC's in Top 25)

4. Minn 43-3
5. aTm 40-5
6. Ore 38-6
7. OK 41-8
8. Wash 34-10

==========

6. Mich (UF 2-1 Mich)
12. UCLA (UF 9-4 UCLA)

So bring um on...

Gator softball beat UT in the 1st game of their 3-game series in Knoxville 5-0 in front of a record crowd. Barnhill threw a 2 hitter and struck out 12. Lorenz had a 2 run triple & scored on a wild pitch. Kvistad hit 2 solo home runs. Barnhill is now 21-0. Tennesse's losing pitcher, Matty Moss, came into the game 21-1. Impressive start for the Gators.

#8 Tennessee just looks overmatched against the Gators. Gourley threw a 3-hitter, their defense was sloppy and our bats were very good in a 9-0 cakewalk Saturday. Clinched at least a tie for the SEC title. For us not to win it outright, TAM has to beat KY today (they're down 3-2 in the 6th) and tomorrow and then sweep Tennessee next weekend, plus UT has to beat us tomorrow. If we win tomorrow, we clinch the title outright.

The Gators may not have a QB, (I think they do, but we'll see if they use him) but they by-gawd got a couple of pitchers in Faedo and freakin' Barnhill...

Barnhill's scoreless inning streak is now at 50.1 innings, surpassing her earlier streak of 45.2 innings.
The Gator softball team now has 15 Shut-outs over Top 25 ranked teams, with Barnhill's complete game 5-0 shut-out over #8 Tenn.

And oh btw, last weeks SEC Player of the Week, Kayli Kvistad, crushed 2 solo HR's in that game.

Kentucky softball beat Texas A&M today 7-2, clinching the SEC regular season title for the Gators. Gator Lacrosse won their 3rd straight Big East title and closed out the regular season today with a 15-3 thumping of Georgetown.

You mean the Bears' draft plan?

The Gators began the game getting hits, so Tennis-sea quickly went to the bullpen to make a change.
That change pretty much killed the Gator batters for the rest of the game.
I thought that Walton should have done the same after the 4th inning, but he stayed with Aleshia.

The Gator Softball team still took the series 2-1 @ #8 Tennis-sea, losing the last game on an Ocasio Gran Slam in the 5th inning. Guano Occurs...

The Gators took the series 2-1 in Knoxville for the first time since 2012 with a pair of back-to-back shutouts to start the series.(UF 5-0 - 9-0 - 1-5 TN) Despite that one loss, the Gators end the 2017 SEC regular season with its third straight regular season SEC Championship and its best finish in conference play (20-3) since 2009.

Next up for the Gators is the Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown against No. 2 FSU Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.

* #1 Plays #2 and the stinkin' SEC Network can't put it on their schedule. Total BS!

If the Gators needed the win Sunday Barnhill would have pitched, like she's been doing the last month or more - 1st & last game of the weekend series. Ocasio is a very good pitcher, but she allows more contact than Gourley or Barnhill & she did give up that big home run against Georgia last year in the Supers that knocked us out. She's going to have to pitch some for us in the post season and I think he wanted to give her a taste of SEC hitters for the 1st time this year. But the game really didn't matter, as we're winning the SEC by at least 2 games, probably more depending on how Texas A&M does against Tennessee this weekend.

And I agree with you about neither ESPN nor the SEC Network televising the UF/FSU matchup. Back before the SEC whored itself to ESPN, SunSports or FoxSports Florida televised a lot more Gator & FSU softball & baseball games than we get now. Plus with our lacrosse team being in the Big East and not the SEC, none of the lacrosse matches get televised except on the computer app. That does suck big time.

Ocasio is in a slump she will come out of it sooner or later...hopefully this season
I wouldn't say Ocasio is in a slump. Her pitching record this year is 8-1 with a 1.22 ERA. She's also started most of our games in right field, is hitting .298 and has not made an error. She's probably the most well rounded athlete on the team. She's the #3 pitcher on a team where the Top 2 pitchers are probably 1st team All Americans this year, she herself being an ALL American last year.

Last week all 3 Gator pitchers were in the Top 10 ERA's in the Nation.
Ocasio might have dropped out after the Gran Slam at Tenn, but like ocala said, she's still a great player and teammate.

I went and checked:

1. Kelly Barnhill - 0.16 -- Nobody's even close to Kelly

2. Megan Good - 0.51 - James Madison

4. Delanie Gourley - 0.89

10. Carley Hoover - 1.08 - LSU
========================

15. Aleshia Ocasio - 1.22
(Last week her ERA was still under 1.00)

Gator softball team (46-5) has lost 2 in a row, dropping a 3-1, 11 inning game at #2 FSU Wednesday night. Kelley Barnhill (21-1) pitched the entire game for UF, striking out 21, but giving up a solo home run in the 1st inning and a 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th, the 1st HR's she's given up this year and ending a 51 inning scoreless streak. The 3 earned runs FSU got equaled the number of earned runs Barnhill had given up all year before last night and raised her ERA to 0.30. Gators finish their regular season this weekend with 3 games against North Texas and 1 game against Florida A&M.

Yep, I guess we'll all just have to learn to live with their 46-5 imperfections... ;)

2 really good teams.
Yep. Gators have established themselves as a perennial powerhouse and FSU has gotten better & better under their new coach and are a legit national contender. Both teams should end up in Oklahoma City.

And that would be great, especially if they were both in the WCWS Final, with the same results as the 1996 Season in football... :D

Finally a Gator Lacrosse match on TV. The finals of the Big East Tournament, UF (#2 in nation) vs. Denver, live at 2:30 on FoxSports 2. For those who have never watched women's lacrosse, give it a shot.

GoooooooooooooGATORS!

Softball beat North Texas 9-0 in 5 innings & the lacrosse team won the Big East Tournament 18-12. Let's finish the day off with baseball taking out Ole Miss again.

The Gator are again the Big East Conference Tournament Champs.
The University of Florida Women's Lacrosse Team (17-2) claimed its 5th conference tournament title overall, its 4th conference title in a row, and 3rd BIG EAST Tournament title in a row on Saturday. The Gators beat third-seeded Denver (14-4), by a score of 18-12.

Lacrosse is really fun to watch, the scoring is 'sudden' and the action is constant and fast moving. Iiiii-LIKE-IT!

On Senior Day, the #1 Gator's put a Mercy Rule 9-0 Shut-out on N.Tx.
The Softball senior class winning percentage is.a fantastic 876 (219-31).
With 3 SEC-C's and 2 WCWS Championships. Pretty good huh?

Thank you and good luck in the rest of your post UF, but always a Gator lives.
Now, go on out there and add to your SWEET Gator legacy, this season ain't over yet.

The #7 Florida Baseball Team rallied from a 4-0 deficit and won their 8th consecutive game, topping Ole Miss, 7-4 to win the series 2-0. The chance for the 3-0 'sweep' of Ole Miss comes today at 2 PM. (UF 11-2 MS -- UF 7-4 Ms)

Gator softball finishes their regular season 50-5 by beating N. Texas 8-1 and FAMU 7-0. FSU lost a doubleheader at Oregon Saturday night and UCLA beat Arizona 8-0, 6-0 in the 1st two games of their weekend series. So the Gators should remain #1. Minnesota is, I think, 50-3 but their schedule is nothing like an SEC or PAC-12 schedule.

Women's lacrosse is fun to watch. However, that game yesterday with Denver was ridiculous in how many fouls those refs called. I've watched quite a few matches over the years and normally there are 25-35 fouls called in a match. Yesterday there were close to 60. They wouldn't allow hardly any contact and it slowed the game down a lot. But it was still pretty exciting.

Men's & Women's tennis start their post-season runs later this week and the baseball team is now tied with Miss. St. for the best SEC record at 16-8. Offense was very solid against an excellent Ole Miss pitching staff and the pitching and defense were steady as usual. They have a tough midweek game vs. USF, then go to Bama next weekend for, hopefully, another sweep. Goooooooooo Gators.

I have posted this on another thread, but it won't hurt to also post it here....

With the sweep of Ole Miss, the Gator Baseball Team (35-13, 16-8) is now in 1st place in the SEC-E, and they are tied with SECw MsSt for the overall lead in the SEC.

Last one, best one is the mantra the Gator Track and Field Program, and its last meet of the regular season certainly qualified as one of its best this year. The Gators posted 14 times and marks that rank in the NCAA Division I top 30, including a pair of national leads and five national top 10s. That number does not include a handful of marks that should put Gators in contention for, if not outright clinching NCAA East Preliminary berths.
Florida returns to action May 11-13, when it competes at SEC Outdoor Championships in Columbia, S.C.

Six (6) members of the Gator Women's Tennis Team were selected to compete in the NCAA Singles and or Doubles Championships, the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee announced Wednesday evening.
=============

Two (2) members of the Gator Men's Tennis Team have been selected to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships later this month. Perez earned the No. 8 seed in the 64-player singles draw, while the duo of Ingildsen/Perez earned the No. 3 seed in the 32-team doubles competition.

The Gator Women's Golf Team will begin play at the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship on Monday. The Gators enter the three-day event (Monday-Wednesday) as the No. 1 seed. The top 6 teams and 3 individuals from each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, Ill. at Rich Harvest Farms.

The Florida Gators Men's Golf Team is a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament and is headed to the West Lafayette (Ind.) Regional. Purdue University will play host as the event will take place at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Kampen Course. The top five teams from the regional will advance to the National Championship tournament in Sugar Grove, Ill., from May 26-31.

One day after winning the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament, the 17-2 Gator Women's Lacrosse Team received the No. 3 overall seed in the 26-team NCAA Tournament. The Gators have earned a first-round bye and the right to host NCAA First & Second Rounds, along with Quarterfinal action at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

The regular season has come to an end for all SEC teams and the bracket is officially set for the 2017 SEC Softball Tournament that runs May 10-13, in Knoxville, Tenn., at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The Gators (50-5, 20-3 SEC) clinched the No. 1-seed in the tournament after defeating Tennessee, 2-1, during the final SEC series of the season just a week ago in Knoxville. It was the 3rd straight SEC regular-season title and league-leading 7th overall.

* That's 5 years in a row, Tim Waltons Lady Gators have won 50 games!!!

Gator Women's Golf tied for 1st in their Regional and head to the NCAA Championships next weekend.
Softball plays Ole Miss at 2:30 today in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. Winner gets TAM/Alabama on Friday.

Softball team looked uninterested in their 2-0 loss to Ole Miss, the 1st time a #1 seed has lost their opening game in the SEC tournament. In the scheme of things, no big deal. But this does show a potential problem as they head into the NCAA tournament. Bats!. Same issue as last year. The 2014-15 National Championship teams mashed the ball and scored runs in bunches. Last year and this year, the team has had to scrap for runs. Despite their stats, record, RPI, dominant pitching and great defense, when the opposing pitchers don't walk or hit batters and don't make errors, we have a hard time scoring. I see the key to a deep post season run being the 2 freshmen, Roberts & Hoover, doing more than striking out and popping up, plus the veterans (Lorenz, Kvistad, DeWitt, Wheaton, McLean, Herndon) hitting above .300. I love this team, but you can't expect our great pitching to throw shoutouts consistently against the best of the best. We've got to score. Go Gators!!!

Ho-hum on the tourney. I'd rather that they get ready for the NCAA's myself, even IF they didn't sandbag the game. Best win for Ole Miss in their softball history, so good for them and no big deal for the Gators.

Hope you're right. I sometimes admire your always positive outlook about our Gators.

They win and I mildly celebrate with them. :)

They lose, and while that's never fun for me, it still doesn't ruin my week.

Perspective is essential... ;)

Yep they don't appear to care for the SEC Tourney ever since SEC came out with a Regular Season Champion Trophy...The way I see it, just do away with the tourney and let the team who wins it during the regular season just be the one. No need to have an SEC Tourney as it worthless IMHO. Its the same in high school, with districts, I think the team who wins the regular season just like football there is no need to have district championship tournaments. Its just kinda dumb IMHO. Just do what football does except have an SEC Tournament.

Isn't it like B-Ball?
Regular season champ gets and automatic NCAA bid.
Tourney champ gets and automatic NCAA bid.
Better for the SEC if they aren't the same team....

I think only the tournament champ gets the automatic bid, just like in baseball, although it doesn't really matter because the regular season champs in both sports are going to not only get a bid, but be very highly seeded. In softball it looks like we might get all 13 teams in the tournament. Missouri, to me, is the only one in doubt.
