And They're Off and Winning Again...

You can either open up you tube and type in search for Florida USC lacrosse or go to Floridagators.com, click on the women's lacrosse schedule and click on the Watch button. It will take you there, too.

Gator lacrosse down 7-6 at half. USC's defense is giving our high-powered offense fits. Our best player hasn't even been able to take a shot.

Gator lacrosse in trouble. Tied 12-12 with 6 minutes left. We beat this team 15-10 in February, but they are 17-3, ranked #10 I think. Plus our girls have turned it over lots more today than normal. Seems like USC is too good to be matched up against us this early, but there you go. Hopefully, we can pull it out.

Lacrosse season is over. This team was too good to exit this early, but USC outplayed them today.

Most Gators fans could care less about Women's lacrosse. Heck, most probably don't even know we have a team. But what our coach has done in building this program from the ground up is incredible. And they had too good a year to have it end this way. Feel bad for them. But, yeah wait 'til next year. And it's an exciting sport to watch, IMO.

I agree totally. The only year that the coach/team hasn't been their conference champ was their 1st year of existence. And after moving up to the Big East Conf. they have an immediate 3-Peat on their resume. Phenomenal imoho, so GoooooGATORS!

That NC is in their not to distant future imo, so I'll keep on looking forward to it. Tough girls playing a tough game, that the SEC has yet to embrace as a conference.

UF has had the most total SEC-C's for quite a while now, and continues to lead the way in the All Sports category.

National Top 10 in All Sports, combined with Top 10 Academics for Public Universities... Looks like one of, if not the very best of, well rounded schools.

Say it's GREAT,,, To Be,,, A Flo-ri-da GATOR! :D

Pretty sure we're the only school that has finished in the Top 10 of the All-Sports rankings every year since they started keeping track. And we dominate the SEC in the All-Sports trophy. And we've won the SEC All-Sports trophy 10 straight years and 27 in the last 30 years. Truly unbelievable.

Softball gets a ho-hum 9-0 no-hitter over FAMU behind Gourley. Next up is Okie St. at noon. Hopefully Barnhill can dominate. The Bama/Minnesota game at 2:30 should be one to watch.

Go Bama and Go Georgia...

(darn, I can't believe I just said that,,,, but SEC, SEC, SEC) :)

Softball gets their 2nd Shut-Out, taking down the competition again:

I was actually pulling for Minnesota to knock off Alabama because the committee screwed Minnesota by not giving them at least a Regional to host. But Bama beat them 1-0 in 9 innings today. So a Bama/UF Super is looking very likely. I'm liking Ole Miss's softball team. That pitcher that beat us is really on a roll.

The Minnie's had a 114 RPI.
Play somebody.... o_O

The worst team out of the 13 SEC teams in the tourney had a 40 RPI.
16 Seed Bama beat them.

I heard on the radio that of the SEC's 13 teams, 10 won on the 1st day.

According to this link, Minnesota's RPI as of May 14, 2017 was 11. And actually the worst RPI in the SEC was Arkansas at #33. Very impressive for the conference. But 6 teams with a lower RPI than Minnesota hosted a Regional (Utah, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU & Oklahoma). They got screwed. No doubt the SEC is far superior to the Big 10 in softball, but if Michigan had the same schedule and same record as Minnesota, they would probably have been a Top 8 seed, Top 16 for sure. And consider this fact - Minnesota only played 16 home games, 18 on neutral fields and 23 on hostile fields, by far the fewest home games of any team in the Top 16. They just got a raw deal IMO. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d1/ncaa-womens-softball-rpi

UF's #1 seeded Women's Tennis Team (26-3) plays #9 Oklahoma St. (25-5) Sunday at 4 PM in Athens, GA for the right to go to the Final 4 for the NCAA championship. The Gators have beaten UMass 4-0, Miami 4-1 and Texas A&M 4-0 to get to this point. And the Cowgirls softball team beat FIU today, which means they play UF Sunday at Noon for the Gainesville Regional title, needing to beat the Gators twice to win it. Hope the Gators can send both teams back to Oklahoma as losers!!

Thanks for the Minnie's update, I was going by an article that I'd read a couple of weeks ago, and that article must have not had all of the correct info in it.

So the Minnie's did get screwed it seems.

That being said, for me, it still SEC-SEC-SEC... :)

Clutch hitting is a bugaboo for the Gators, as they get 7 hits in a 1-0 loss to Ok. St. in Game 1 today. Barnhill pitched great again. Dewitt's 2 run HR in the 1st inning puts us up 2-0 in the deciding game now ongoing. Gourley looks sharp.

Women's tennis beat Oklahoma St. today 4-1 to advance to the Final 4 for the NCAA championship, where they will face Vanderbilt, who has beaten the Gators twice this year. Ohio St. & Stanford meet in the other semifinal.

Gator softball faces Alabama in the Super Regionals. Gourley pitched great today and this should be a tight matchup featuring excellent pitching. Bama's ace, Osorio, leads the nation in strikeouts with over 300. Their #2 pitcher, Littlejohn is a senior and very solid. Going to be tough to score on them and I except the games will be low scoring decided by a key hit or fielding miscue. Gators have to prove their #1 seeding against a team that I feel was underseeded for the tournament.

The week ahead
  • Baseball: The Gators enter the SEC Tournament as the top seed and will begin play on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m ET.
  • Softball: The top-seeded Gators host No. 16 Alabama for a best-of-3 series from Thursday-Sautrday with a spot in the Women’s College World Series on the line.
  • Women’s Tennis: The top-seeded Gators face No. 4 seed Vanderbilt on Monday for a spot in the national championship game.
  • Track and field: The second-ranked men’s team and eighth-ranked women’s team head to Lexington, Ky., for the three-day NCAA East Preliminary meet that begins on Thursday. The top qualifiers will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which begin on June 7.

8 of the 13 SEC teams advanced to the Super Regionals. All 16 of the National seeds advanced for the 1st time ever. 2 SEC teams are guaranteed to be in the World Series as Alabama & Florida and Tennessee & Texas A&M play each other. Auburn is the higher seed against Oklahoma, while Kentucky is the lower seed at Oregon, Ole Miss the lower seed at UCLA and LSU the lower seed at FSU. There's a possibility that we could have 6 teams out of 8 in the CWS, although that is unlikely. The Pac 12 has 5 teams in the Super Regionals and could potentially get 4 to the CWS, with Utah & Washington playing each other. Oregon, UCLA & Arizona are higher seeds and playing at home, of course. If the home teams win out, the SEC will have 3 teams in the CWS (UF, Tennessee & Auburn), the Pac-12 will have 4 (Washington, Oregon, Arizona & UCLA) and the ACC will have 1 (FSU). There are almost always some upsets and I'm hoping it's with the Pac-12 teams, plus LSU over FSU.

No badminton or croquet?

:D:D

If UF decided to add croquet or badmitton to the athletic dept., we'd be competing for titles within a few years!

Lol. No doubt. It would be 2 more sports for instants manifestos

Women's Tennis wins National Championship, beating Stanford 4-1. This is the 7th national title for our Gator ladies in tennis. They, also, have finished as national runners-up 7 times. What a program!!!

Gator Softball in trouble. Barnhill was dominating the game with 10 strikeouts thru 4 innings. But our anemic offense squandered 3 chances to score and going to the 5th it was 0-0. A walk, a bad decision by Barnhill on a sac bunt put runners on 1st & 2nd before back to back bunts were thrown into right field by Barnhill and we're down 3-0 even though they only have 1 hit, none in this inning. Bama is playing loose, their pitcher is experienced and focused and we're looking tight, just like last year against Georgia. I was worried all week about this series and am even more so now.

Barbhill is the #1 pitcher in NCAA softball but cannot throw a ball over her heard worth of flip. I guess Coach Walton didn't practice this during the year. You can tell she cannot throw the ball that good over her head.

Barnhill has 4 errors on the season, all on overthrows to first. We're 4-5 in our last 9 games against quality opponents (2 wins at Tennessee, 2 wins vs Oklahoma St., 1 loss at UT, 1 loss at FSU, 1 loss vs. Ole Miss, 1 loss vs. Ok. St., 1 loss vs. Bama). All 3 of Barnhill's losses have come in those games. I haven't liked the way we've been playing the last month and the pressure seems to be getting to them. Hope we can bounce back tomorrow and Saturday.

Hitting in the clutch has been a problem for the gators all season, but especially in the last month. The players said it after the game and so did Coach Walton. There seems to be a tightness and a lack of grittiness to find ways to win. Maybe the pressure of being #1 just wore them down. That's what seemed to happen last year, too.

I told my better half in the 3rd inning that the team needed to give Kelly some support with their bats. They never did and so a couple of very uncharacteristic errors killed them. :(

Next up; recover the bats or go home,,, again... o_O
