3rd most ESPN 300 recruits

Going by their stats:

The 3-star xfer QB-pp M&M boyz are a poor joke on Gator fans imo,
passing or running... (see Miller's O&B & Bowl or Mertz 2022 Wis stats)
🤢
==========

Brown *** HS Sr - R - 173 for 1,343 yds, 7.8 ypc 20 TD's, 0 LPF's
(QBR 142.6, 71.1%, 41 TD's, 4 Ints) -- Combined - 61 TD's, 4 TO's

Rashada ***** HS Sr - R - 68 for 419 yds, 6.2 ypc, 7 TD's, 1 LPF
(QBR 107.3, 62.4%, 32 TD's, 13 Ints) Combined - 39 TD's, 14 TO's

Just for Fun
Arch Manning ***** HS Sr - R - 15 for 81 yds, 5.4 ypc, 1 TD, 0 LPF's
(QBR 118.7, 56.9%, 20 TD's, 2 Ints) Combined - 21 TD's, 2 TO's

The last 3 all played at similar levels of HS competition.
Looks to me like 2 were over-rated, and 1 was highly under-rated....

With UF's questionable 2023 OL, which QB would you pick, going by their on the field stats?

If every thread for the next 8 months is going to be the same bitching and complaining and passive aggressive nonsense then it's going to be one of the more unbearable off-season this board has ever had.

The same comments and threads over and over and over. How exciting.

Well my God dude. Bowl season isn't even over and every thread and post seems to be the exact same. The off-season is long in college football, so there's not a ton to talk about. If we're already repeating the same things over-and-over....yikes.

Eugene Wilson is one of my favorite players in this class. It’s too bad he isn’t an EE. I think he has the ability to contribute early and often. Again it would of been nice to have him in the spring.

With Wilson, Jean and Mizell we should have some excellent receivers. Hopefully Rashada can get the ball to them and let them make plays.

With the offensive line falling apart, it's hard to imagine our running game being as good as this year, nor the QB (whoever it turns out to be) having any time to find receivers, no matter how good they are.

What's up with that? 2 to the pros and 2 to the portal right? One portal guy (marq likes OU or at least that's what someone said) and now another guy? Don't get why they would leave, UFs line looked really good all yr

Satan's beard Danny, you've been here more than a year, you knew this was coming.

Dr. Wolf prescribes a shot of high dollar whiskey such as Pappy Van Winkle single barrel special reserve, repeat as needed. If you don't feel better, at least you won't care as much.

Not sure but my guess is they think they can get more NIL somewhere else. The crap is out of control with not making transfers sit a year.

Over 1600 kids in the portal this year so far. Shit it bad for college ball.

I like the portal but the tampering is a MAJOR issue. Needs to be some kind of rules in place. There are players like Jared Verse at d 2 schools that should have the ability to move up. 2nd teasers who want to be first teasers etc. Jermaine Johnson for fsu comes to mind, if he stays at UGA is he a first rd pick? No. So I love the positives of the portal but I hate the negatives almost more, why are starters leaving good programs? Bama has like 10 five star running backs but needed to come to an ACC team ( G Tech) to find their starting running back, needed to go to Louisville to get a good receiver, etc.

I will say, without transfers, it takes teams much longer to have a good team, fsu has benefited from the portal probably more than most teams. J Trav, Benson, Johnny Wilson, Pittman, and almost our entire line came from the portal. Both of our TEs next yr are portal players, as is Jammie Robinson, Lovett, Bethune, and Verse (our 4 best defensive players).

Haven't really paid attention to FSU and their portal moves. So FSU is actually spending some real money in the portal and buying some players who have already shown it on the field? My guess is the FSU boosters aren't spending much with the high school recruits like some of our fellow SEC teams looking at the high school recruiting.

We have been very heavy portal last yr and this yr. Majority of our NIL funds goes to portal and player retention. We have 2 collectives "the battles end" which focuses on portal and player retention, this backed by some with some really deep pockets (rumors of about 20 mill per year), then we have a collective for high school called rising spear (rumors of about 5 mill per year) but that's not backed by the ones who are backing the battles end. Thought process by battles end was that they aren't spending big time money on unproven players, which I understand. Also makes it harder for us to recruit elite high school guys but I was told that we are "in the ball park" on "most" of the high school recruits but don't expect over spending like Miami.

This yr alone we got a 3 yr starter o line from auburn, all conference o line from utep, and colorado LG who was their team captain. We got Jaheim Bell (TE from Scar) and this 6'7 TE from D2 school named murlock who looks really good. Both will start and play. We also got Maimis starting DT to come be our starting DT (his mom was sick and lives near tally so he got a waiver). Still in for Friske (DT) and the number 1 corner from Virginia (don't think we get him but he OV'ed and put us in his top 5). We have been and I expect us to continue to be very heavy portal from here on out. I'd expect us to go after a DE and safety next (since our top 100 DE flipped to Auburn on ESD).

Yep looking at the transfers you are right up near the top in getting portal players the last few years.

Numbers,

why ?

Last Coach - Lincoln Riley took players he wanted to USCw with him.

OU 6-6 this season, Brent Venables - new head coach, holes to fill, etc, much the same as UF - takes money to fix it.

OU looks like they are spending some with HS recruits (8 top 100 composite players) and some in the portal this year. 4 portals so far with 2 being 4 star transfer rated.

Big 12 doesn't get nearly as much money as UF and SEC vs Big 12, I would assume UF would have more for NIL.....but it's an assumption

Potentially an issue for UF is we spent the last 5 years soaking our big money donors for the upgraded facilities, which everyone was told would be the answer to our mediocre recruiting. Now it turns out you have to pay to subsidize these kids’ TikTok posts as well.

NIL doesn't come from TV money etc I think. Most of it is coming from the real big boosters I would think. A few players get some actual legit deals worth quite a bit from non-booster related businesses but not many of them.

I want a HC like this one, instead of one that has to have every advantage and then still can't get it done with a full roster or 5-stars...

Norvell has done very well in the portal picking up guys like Johnson and Verse as his best examples.

Also seems like Norvell is really bonding with these kids and getting full buy-in:

Jordan Travis told reporters on Monday that it was an “easy decision” for Florida State’s best players to suit up for the Cheez-It Bowl.

Multiple FSU stars — like Jammie Robinson and Jared Verse — have decided to play in this game despite potential NFL opportunities in 2023.

Ahead of this week’s game, Travis spoke to reporters about the importance of playing in the bowl game.

“I think we owe it to this university. Florida State gives us everything,” Travis said. “We’re blessed every single day we get to wake up a Seminole and we all know that. And knowing how far we came as a football team, the offseason, how hard we worked together… nobody wants to leave anybody behind.”

Travis explained the role that Florida State head coach Mike Norvell had in players returning for this game.

“What coach Norvell does for us, too,” he added. “That’s a coach that loves us really hard. He coaches us really hard. It means a lot to us. So yeah, I think it was an easy decision for a lot of guys to at least be here to support.”

Florida State will take on Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Napier probably bonds with his guys as well but your first yr is not a lot of your guys. Probably why they are seeing starters transfer.

This is an interesting chart someone made from the 2013 and 2014 classes which show once you get past the top 60 composite recruits its a crap shoot (good evaluations and development?) which determines who out of the # 61 to # 300 ranked composite recruits end up getting drafted by NFL teams.

Jus-askin, so don't nobody go all hostile on me over what I feel is maybe a legitimate question, or point of view on the NIL stuff....

https://floridagators.com/sports/football/roster?view=3

34 to 86 of the 120 = 28% to 72% on the 2022 roster.

Shouldn't about 3/4's of the Gator's NIL money be coming from the business and alumni of those that identify with those that are receiving the vast majority of the $$$ benefits?
As Roseanne Roseannadanna was often known to say,,,
Nev-ver Mineee...... 🤡
Like with so many other things in life, you can choose to either laugh or cry about

the absurdities that you have to live with. I prefer to chuckle and just move on.

It should be coming from businesses that think certain players would be able to boost their marketing but unfortunately only a few players would really move the needle on that where it's worth paying them big money so it's now deals that just replace having the bag men. You have some stuff that is part of collective things I guess where players get paid to interact with fans but that is small stuff compared to some NIL being thrown around by some big boosters at these schools. Unfortunately UF has become more of a nerdy type school with less of the very rich hard core football boosters compared to the 80s and 90s so we are lagging behind some other SEC schools when it comes to playing that game.

JMOHO's but it's not the NIL that's the problem with recruiting.

It's still about the school
(Socialist-U) and the Athletics Program as a whole. Then it's about the comfort with the coaching style, and the coaching that they can get to move on to the NFL, for the tiny fraction few that do.

For the vast majority rest, it's still about getting a degree and moving on to real life, which NIL doesn't do chit for... If you believe that more than a few will ever get any substantial NIL money, then you're clueless imo....

Lol It's about getting paid if you can while at school also with most of these recruits now and the very highest ranked/sought ones are going where they can get it usually. I think we didn't land one of the very top FL recruits composite 5 star or the very high 4 star due to this.

Alabama sitting at 15 right now and a few more are expected after their bowl game. My guess is they will finish with roughly 18+ in the portal and we are sitting at 23. Not that much difference.
