Three Takeaways from Florida’s loss to Miami
(HECTOR)





The Florida Gators host the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon to kick off the 2024 season. The Gators were completely overmatched and routed by the Miami Hurricanes 41-17 in the Swamp.



With the loss, Florida snaps their 34-game home opener winning streak which dates back to 1989. The Gators had no answers for the Hurricanes as Miami dominated Florida in every aspect of the game including coaching. Here are my three takeaways from Florida’s blowout loss versus Miami.



Miami owned Florida in the trenches



Heading into the season opener, Florida had a lot of questions about their offensive and defensive lines. It was not great last season and many wondered if the additions through the Transfer Portal would help improve Florida’s trenches.



The Miami Hurricanes’ offensive and defensive lines were hyped to some of the best in college football. They certainly lived up to their expectations and had no issues against the Gators.



Miami might be one of the best trenches Florida sees this season but that doesn’t excuse them for their poor performance and lack of discipline. Major adjustments need to be made as Florida’s trenches continue to hold this team back.



2. Billy Napier outreached by Mario Cristobal



The two former Alabama assistant coaches went up against each other for the first time in their careers. Both coaches needed to get their season off to a hot start and Cristobal’s Hurricanes looked like they wanted it more than the Gators.



The Hurricanes’ offense had no issues moving the football up and down the field. Florida was no match for Miami’s offense led by former Washington State quarterback, Cam Ward. The former Cougars gunslinger torched Florida’s secondary as he completed 26 out of 35 passes for 385 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.



Napier and the Florida offense was very stagnant and lacked creativity all afternoon. The Gators struggled to move the ball with consistency and looked very predictable. Florida might have more problems with Graham Mertz’s injury. Florida would need to count on a true freshman quarterback, DJ Lagway, against the toughest schedule in college football.



3. Are Billy Napier’s days at Florida numbered?



Coming into the 2024 season, Billy Napier was one of the biggest names on the coaching hot seat. Florida has had two consecutive losing seasons in the Napier era. Napier’s head coaching record at the University of Florida is now 11-15.



This is Billy Napier’s third season as Florida’s head coach. The vast majority of the players on Florida’s roster are the players he has recruited. Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like anything positive has changed during his tenure.



Napier has recruited well at Florida but the product on the field is living up to the Gator Standard. It’s the point that many fans will start to turn on Napier if they haven’t already. There’s no reason a historic program like the University of Florida should have these issues.



Florida’s problems are just on the field or with coaching. It starts at the top and this could be another historically bad season for the Gators. If that’s the case, major changes at the University of Florida need to be made to save the program from more mediocrity. Let’s see if the Gators can rebound from this loss and possibly save Napier’s job.

Drop the hatchet on Mike Novell? How much time did last season give him?

The courts have essentially stripped away, all enforcement authority from the NCAA. Of course, the NCAA was put in place years ago to in sure that there’s some sort of fairness college football.

What we have now are lawless football programs who can afford to purchase the best players.

Case in point Miami and Mississippi.

Miami spent $1.2 million on both of their NFL tackles. Do you think we spent $1.2 million on a OT. PFF grade of zero

Do you want to get really good like Miami get rid of your mediocre quarterback, and spend lots of money on potentially the first pick in the NFL draft

What Florida went up against on Saturday was an NFL team.

Our lineman stink compared to Miami. We Couldn’t put any pressure on Ward. He could essentially do his taxes while in the pocket.

coaching does play a role and I do think Billy Napier is not competent to produce at least a winning product

And, of course, kiffen is definitely a good coach . Knows how to produce offfese

But do you think Kiffen can win 10 to 11 games with this talent we have in Florida?

Certainly what it means for the future of Florida are two things:

One find the right coach

And two: mercilessly find a way to spend ridiculous money on elite talent. Which is where I think that we are broken.

There are no rules in college football, so there’s nothing to hold us back

We’ve had a sizable contingent that have been strongly outspoken about Kiffen. However after Saturday a lot of minds have obviously changed. Many felt Lane should have been our first choice three years ago, but were shot down by all the reasons why he shouldn’t be the guy. Mounting embarrassing losses has a way of changing opinions. That’s not a bad thing!

So feel free to ask my opinion on the current process for our football progrum

You're in Billy's shoes, trying to pull the nose up on this deal, what do you do?

For me, I sit the staff down and ask if there are any tasks I'm doing that they believe someone else can do better. If there is anything close to consensus on a matter, I give it up. Then I cancel anything that doesn't help us win games, I'm not doing an interview, appearance, or podcast. I have a team meeting explaining any changes that were made and I let them know the only thing that matters moving forward is winning the next game.

Schematically, I'm no longer calling plays, I'm starting DJ, and my role on game days is motivator and game manager.

I don't believe he can right the ship, but I wanted to try and think through how I'd do it if I were him.

For the new HC signing? Told y'all 3 years ago this would happen. It's the AD that needs to go, he chooses crap and UF has become a revolving door for HC to come here, get fired then UF has to pay big bucks to get out of the contract. Revolving doors are dangerous!!

Here is what is holding Florida back in order of our issues
1. We haven’t signed a 5 star defensive tackle or olineman since martz ivy. We are getting killed at the line of scrimmage. Our offensive line has been a problem for a long time and our defense can’t stop anyone bc we don’t have dominate dlineman
2. We are too easy to defend with predictable play calling. We play too many 2 te sets. We have to many 2 man routes. The offense is an early 2000 offense. There is no creativity. We can’t just line up and pound the rock. We need creativity.
3. We need a qb who can pass that can beat teams with his legs. That can be Lagway in the future. He is young right now. I would start Lagway the rest of the way
4. Wasting Anthony Richardson’s year by not winning that year has put this season as a must win season and with our issues I don’t see us getting to more than 6 wins right now unless Lagway is a star right away.
5. We need all our boosters to go all in on football. Money can’t just come from the top 3 guys.

I’m trying to think of some examples of true freshman QBs that were successful. Caleb Williams? Peyton Manning? Help me out. Any other examples of successful true freshman QBs. It's gonna be really tough for DJ with this schedule but if we can keep him healthy maybe we can have some success

Taylor Parks earns her first-career SEC Honor.


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After assisting the undefeated No. 11 Florida volleyball team to a .317 average attacking percentage this past weekend, setter Taylor Parks was awarded Freshman of the Week - the league announced Monday.



The honor marks the first of her career and becomes the 17th player in program history to garner the award. Additionally, it marks the first SEC weekly accolade for the Gators during the 2024 season.



The Clearwater, FL native made her Gator debut as the starting setter in Florida’s 3-1 win over Colorado State on Friday, Aug. 30. The rookie dished out a career-high 44 assists to help her team finish with a .301 hitting clip in the season opener, while recording four digs, three kills, three aces and one block of her own.



Parks posted a career-high four kills in Florida’s win over Northern Colorado on Aug. 31, and dropped three aces for the second-consecutive match. Additionally, she tallied 36 assists, five digs and one block in the four setter.



The Florida native commanded the Gators offense to a season-high .361 hitting clip in Sunday’s sweep against Michigan State, as the Gators posted 47 kills in the three setter. She also dished out 34 assists and recorded a career-high seven digs.



Following her three days of play, Parks totaled 114 assists,16 digs, 16 points, nine kills, six aces and two blocks to average 10.36 assists, 1.45 digs,1.45 points, 0.55 aces and 0.18 blocks per set.

The Gators welcome South Florida, Southern Indiana and Ohio State to Gainesville for the Florida Invitational from Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8. Ohio State and Southern Indiana kick off the three days of play on Friday at 4 p.m. ET with Florida and USF following at 7 p.m. ET. The Gators and Southern Indiana will go head-to-head for the first time on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, with Ohio State and USF at 6 p.m. ET. The Invitational concludes on Sunday, with Southern Indiana and USF playing at 1 p.m. ET before the Gators and Ohio State compete against each other at 4 p.m. All matches will be played inside the Exactech Arena at Stephen C. If we got a player that is good enough to take Barber out of the game then we have a player that is good enough to start on the Oline. Barber excelled at RT. He has film playing both, he's versatile. The NFL can worry about where he fits best, but for OUR team if we're struggling on the right side and you have a guy who was very successful on the Right Side...then switch him!!! Let Manuel play LT (if he can) Use Slaughter and Kearney together. One play center, one plat guard. Get your 5 best OLineman out on the field coach. I'm just a guy in his basement from Central Florida but I can see that and we're paying for 2 Oline coaches who apparently can't see it!!!
