New Story The Day After Week One: What Comes Next?

Sad Ben Affleck GIF

I’d love to be able to break this down as a reaction to 1 game, but unfortunately, this goes way beyond yesterday.

Whether people like to admit it or not, there are systemic problems with this program stemming from a guy that was never qualified for the job from day 1.

We can go player by player and talk scheme and all of that, but the fact remains that we have bigger problems that better, more talented, more experienced coaches don’t cause. People qualified for this job don’t hire completely unproven kids to be a coordinator because they had to replace another guy who wasn’t ready for the job. These are the kinds of systemic problems inside this program, and even a middling guy like we faced yesterday is going to keep showing us that this year.

Fact is that Florida under Billy Napier is going in the wrong direction. He never should have been here to begin with. His plan has failed and Florida needs to right that ship.

Unfortunately, CBN is stubborn to a fault and imo has no clue on how to change this.

Offense is high school level bad. I watched North Dakota State who has always been about smash mouth football open their offense up, yet we can't do the same.

Our Defensive Personnel is better suited for a 4-3 or 4-2-5 yet he's set on this 3-4.

UF just has a bad product currently.

At this point I’m cured of my sunshine pumpinitis. There doesn’t seem to be a streak Billy can’t kill or negatively extend. I’ll probably watch the Samford game just out of curiosity for DJ but I have better things to do than watch this same old same old. I can watch Navy or take a nap and stay up late for a Fresno State game (the other teams I follow). On the plus side it’s now September and MBB season is just around the corner.

Whats comes next...Fire THE BUM!

Never seen a slower, out of shape, mistaken driven, non energetic POORLY COACHED team in my life.

How many times on 3rd down we going to throw 4 yards short of the sticks?

All success and failure in any business or organization starts at the top and filters down. We are FAILED at the highest levels.

"The Truth and Nothing but the Truth."----excellent! Agree 100%. The problem is that what we see and seems 100% logical is not seen by those running this football team and program. A lot of us are demoralized because innovation and adaption leading to success is overruled to a method that is going to be followed no matter the result.

(Lack of) Receiver play was eye opening. Do we have a legit 2nd WR on the roster? Surely we all expected the two portal OL that were brought in would start, and then they didn't. What does that say? (Conversely, Miami had portal starters peppered throughout both sides of the ball.)

What an unnerving day.

It always amazes me when a coach leaves some of the best talent warming the pine. It was eident from the get go that Mertz didn't have his "A" game. Baugh? Is Billy blind? Daniels? Give him a chance. SOS would have yanked Mertz before the end of the 1st quarter. Vanilla, predictable plays is Billy Ball.

I will always be the type of person who supports a coach simply until it seems you can't any longer. I'm pretty close to this point now. Do I think this season is salvageable? Sure, it's possible, but with how poorly we looked yesterday it's really hard to see. I will continue to watch & trying to find the positives to at least bring a sense of hope, but yesterday's game showed none of that right now.

And as far as the "negative" posters. I don't mind the negative posts nor the criticisms, but when you post only criticisms even when something positive happens it's really hard to take anything you say seriously. Saw it with Golden, same people were bashing him on the boards & then when we started rolling last season those posters were never to be found again in the threads.

The hiring of what is a little higher than a grad asst to run a SEC defense should have been a big red flag. That shows that he never got what it takes to compete in the SEC or maybe a little laziness.

A big complaint under Mullen was that we would rotate our safeties and have the backups play a lot. Now that's the plan with our entire defense
Yes! I couldn't believe some of the combinations that were out there at times. I think the Defensive Coaches were looking at the game plan for Samford.

We're in a terrible place. We need new coaches but also an infusion of cash.

Sr said it himself. We couldn't afford those 2 tackles. Unless some booster(s) take pity on us and buy us a new staff and new players we can forget about championships here.

I see TG as being the opposite of Napier in terms of building a program. Each year has taken a positive step forward. Really looking forward to this years hoops team think we should make a lot of noise.

I think our alignment and route combinations make it difficult to judge our WR. Seems we struggled to get off press man. Merrz missed open receivers. Ball placement was bad. Specifically remember a 3rd down where he had the RB for an easy conversion but instead went to the receiver beside him that was in double. Miami had bodies all around the LOS. We forced it at time with tight sets. But we never beat them deep to force them to back up.

Yep. Our entire Offensive playbook takes place in a phone booth. No reason for the Defense to play more than 5-8 yards off the LOS.
Every Coach in America not employed by UF, sees this and plays accordingly. I'm sure this offense looks great against AIR.

This is exactly where I’m at today.

Fire him.

And can we finally agree that the insiders we worship on here who are so vital to NIL know nothing of actual football? I’ve never been fed such a line of bull about improvement. That was the worst Florida team I’ve seen on the field in the 30 years I’ve been a fan. We were worse in every aspect except special teams (and that COULDNT get worse)

Slow, lazy, unmotivated players coached by head coach who could barely call a decent high school game.

Strickland screwed us with BILLY’S golden parachute contract. They should BOTH be fired. But Strickland isn’t going anywhere.

And I don’t give a rats ass about which big booster doesn’t like Lane. Too bad. Florida football is a laughing stock and I don’t care WHO it takes to right the ship. Get it done, GET IT DONE.

Best play of the game was Trell’s 71yd TD - obviously….but it was also the first time in the game that we ran on 1st down…which was interesting that it took 3-4 possessions to run on 1st down….

Was supremely disappointed in the apparent stubbornness to not rotate in the RBs…the RB room was listed as the best on our roster, yet Billy trotted Trell out there on nearly every down

We are back to 2017.

Next hopefully is a new coach that never had anything to do with Jim Mcelwain or his offense.

We need a successful guy not a guy “who admits he has a lot to learn and is getting better.”

We saw Utah last year and people blamed it on “not having his players” or how broken Mullen left us. That was all crap. Napier is NOT the guy.

What comes next is we start looking for a new coach. Covertly of course. But we are in a pickle because I don’t trust SS to make a good hire. Actually need to can the AD right now and go find another one and let him start beating the bushes for a new coach.

It’s actually a reaction to 3 years under Billy with a little of the last 15 or so years mixed in.

If we played a competitive game against Miami and lost most fans would be like, ok, we didn’t win but we executed at a high level. That would have been a sign we are going in the right direction, unfortunately the exact opposite happened. It was a clear sign we are going in the wrong direction.

Dave what in the hell are you talking about??? UF had NOT played a single game shame on you for going on a ten minute preview of practice when players were stretching. Vegas told you Miami is a ten win team and UF is a four win team...THAT is what a ten win team does to a four win team...I value your take and opinion BUT stop going at people who bring information to the board.....that is not hard to ask

SS is not making the next HC hire at UF even if he is still the AD. that I can promise you

We motioned the slot receiver on a fake jet, the outside receiver run a drag. Appeared to be max protection with 2 man route. The fake forced the drag route right into the LBs. Maybe it was a timing issue. But appeared to be a bad combination.

We go 3x1 from the left hash. Try to throw a corner route to the boundary. No space to complete the ball. Should've flipped the formation and run this to the field side.

Point is the offense was bad but some things can't be blamed on players talent or execution.

My fear is that it gets even worse once the players quit on their coach, which is likely to happen after we get boat-raced a few more times.

Looking forward to BB season at the beginning of football season is really depressing. Says a lot about the state of our football program.

I can see a firm doing that but SS remains AD is that what you are thinking?
Who would imitate this. The interim president? I couldn’t see SS initiate it.

Does anyone know the logistics of this scenario?
