Football Haiku Make Post Miami Game Post

Haiku dumbfounded.
With emphasis on dumb part.
He look for answers.

First, he was angry,
So go to TCBY
To eat the feelings

Then he read the boards.
People ANGRY like Haiku.
He find no answers.

He love Billy hire.
Bought first class seat, non refund.
Next stop promise land.

Now ticket stub say
train left station only two times
Go one stop and back.

Haiku struggling.
We prime-time poop bed again.
And train start to smell.

We in must win mode
And win with damn emphasis
For next six straight game.

DJ develop
And he heal Gator Nation.
Like Haiku does board.

If stumble at all.
Haiku buy a new ticket.
All aboard Lane train.

Disgruntled fans, or "some guy in his basement in rural Central Florida," as Napier put it, can't disrupt their process.

Seriously Billy???? Um, a lot of us are not some guy in a basement. A lot of us our high level professionals that are good at our job and pay money to buy tickets and contribute to FV to support the NIL program. Do not classify us as someone in the basement. How about you classify the disgruntled fans as loyal Gators who have supported this program before you were born and have supported the Gators for decades when you had no clue of what being a Gator was.

Look in the mirror and try to tell yourself that maybe you need an offensive coordinator because you are over your head and not a good play caller. Play the studs we have now. They get paid a lot of money. There should be no hard feelings when you are paid well and do not perform. That is called the Real World. Goes for coaches and player.

Guy in a Basement in Tampa.

Let's Talk Money...

This post is worth what you paid for it. I'm no expert, but I was talking with someone after the "game" who seemed to be well-informed. The subject of what the cost would be of firing BN (and staff) and bringing in a new HC and a completely new staff.
This person said an analysis was done, and the number was north of $80 million. It's been reported that Ohio State's current roster carries an NIL value of $21 Million.
It's always been said, "it's not about the X's and the O's, it's about the Jimmys and the Joes." If that is the case, would it be a better use of the funds to "buy" better players, especially in the trenches?

Football Athletic Director Hot Board

Yes Napier is not going to make it here and is in way over his head. I like him but he’s just not getting it done. For me it is hard to blame him IMO. The blame squarely falls on Stricklin and the UAA.

If Stricklin doesn’t get fired and we let him hire the next coach it won’t end well again. So the first thing that should really happen is UF needs a new athletic director. That should be priority #1. It has been well documented by many of my posts even as far back as 2-3 years ago that I have said Stricklin is not good. I hate to be right and toot my own horn. In fact I have even said we have even deeper problems than just a poor AD but also a dysfunctional UAA. The UAA should have been gutted years ago and that is a whole another topic in itself.

So the real search should be for an AD first and no I haven’t really done any research on some good options there yet but that is what we need a hot board for.

Football My take as a former collegiate and pro (practice squad) guy

To start, I was a bit more than disappointed that I hyped this game up for my son, with it being his first game in the SWAMP.

I’m going to be brutally honest here, I’ve been a huge Billy fan since he arrived. And I will still say that im only teetering on the support line. I’ve haven’t thrown in the towel yet.

This team today looked uncoached, unprepared, and definitely not motivated or dialed in. Mertz missed read after read, the defense stayed in zone allowing Miami to settle and pick apart the DBs, and the lack of overall grit pissed me off. I may be getting old, but there are few things that get under my skin more than a team that loafs, a team that just doesn’t seem to have a killer instinct. If you can’t instill that, it’s your job to recruit and nurture those killers on your team.

Our play calling was more than questionable, but if you tag that with the timing between Mertz and the receivers after an entire offseason, there’s not an excuse. Out “D” never made an adjustment out of zone, allowing Miami to settle and challenge all game long. This had the be the worst defensive performance and play calling I’ve ever seen. Simply stated, no excuse.

—— NOW ——-

Watching how Lagway was able to step in gave me hope. A defense can rally around an offense killing it. It’s contagious, it’s viral, it inevitable to be infectious. I’m not saying Mertz should no longer be a part of things, but after seeing his disconnect today, and seeing our young guy come in and fight, from an old war dog this is an easy decision going forward. I like what our RBs have to offer, and we’ve got players at WR, there’s no excuse for our miscues today.

This was a completely unprepared team, out played and gritted by Miami (embarrassing), but I’m not throwing in the towel. If Billy doesn’t make the right decisions and calls from here on out, it truly relies on him.

I still LOVE the team I always wanted to play for since I was a kid. If it took my life, I’d gladly trade it for one play in a Gator 🐊 uniform. I’d never look back. It hurts to see these players, who are coddled and have everything disrespect such a storied history.

Love you all my fellow 🐊 faithful.

Mike

Football Cam Jackson Hype?

@bblake08 you mentioned the other day about #99 having a great camp. What's your expectations for him this season? I've been a big fan of his and while he disappointed a little last year i'm hoping he can be the great DT we all hoped when he transferred. @Heisman Gator 1 @JasonHigdon feel free to give your thoughts as well. Am i mistaken in thinking this D line can be really good this year with big Cam being a catalyst?

Gator Softball 2024

Florida softball kicks off their season on February 9-11 at the USF tournament in Tampa with games against Oregon State, Michigan, Illinois State, Bethune-Cookman & USF. 2 publications so far have started the Gators off at #20 & #24 in the national polls. That should be incentive for this talented Gator team, who returns some quality players, the #1 recruiting class in the nation, plus some excellent transfers. The key reason they are projected as low as they are in that their 3 main pitchers are all freshmen, although 2 of them have been National High School Players of the Year - Ava Brown in 2023 and Keagan Rothrock in 2022. Here are links to bring everyone up to date on this year's team.

Football As Long As Billy Is Our Coach…

I will support him 100%.
I was as disappointed as everyone else after the game and voiced that reaction in several posts over the Weekend.
But the truth is, if we fire him now or during the Season, who replaces him?
I wouldn’t trust anyone on this staff to take over the Program.
The best we can do is hope that things get turned around and if not, we make a move after fsu.
The current negativity serves only our rivals.
Start DJ, let him take his lumps and make this his team. Hopefully that keeps him around if we part ways with CBN.

Football Line of Scrimmage league

Elite OL and DL win championships, Nick Saban and Alabama went on a 10 year run proving that having NFL caliber lineman on both sides of the ball will have you playing for NCs year in and year out. elite talent alone does not automatically get you 10 win seasons and NC appearances, combine that with excellent strength and conditioning programs, high caliber coaching and development and you have a recipe for success. See Georgia, Texas, Ohio St, Michigan as other examples of teams that consistently bring in and land high end OL/DL talent. Someone in another thread posted a stat that said the last time we landed a top 100 OL was 9 years ago!! 9 years ago was the last time we had an elite top 100 OL. That can not and should not happen at UF. Apparently we are top 10 in NIL at the moment. Why are we rolling out guys like Barber who is arguably our best OL, sadly he wouldn't crack the starting lineups at Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Harris looks to be a good solid player once he gets more experience under his belt, Jake Slaughter also wouldn't start at those programs either. George, Waits, BCD/Manuell wouldn't start at Kentucky. why are we still trying to get by with Hevesy/Sale specials and expecting different results? Mertz nearly got killed and was running for his life most of the game, he ends up in the concussion protocol bc of the right side of the line. DL is the same story...SLackman im sure was a great player and teamate at Upenn, Cam Jackson, Banks, and Dez are all plan B type guys. We were told that George Gumbs was the DE replacement for Princely, we didn't need a rush edge, Cam Ward didn't have one grass stain on his jersey and had all day to throw. if we want to give the next staff a fair shot at getting us back to championship caliber football, it has to start with the trenches, we need to stop pursuing everyone's rejects and guys that get recruited over, the trenches are what is going to get us back and back faster than anything else. The new staff and regime deserve this, Gator nation deserves it.
