Basketball NBA Playoffs Thread

I know not everybody likes the NBA but I’m a huge Celtics fan and I sincerely enjoy watching Al Horford still playing at the top level. He is a gator great and timeless.

Also struck after watching college basketball so much this year how the NBA floor just looks bigger (even though it is not) and the three-point line is so much further back.

New Story Fueling the Jet (4/21)

Fueling the Jet (4/21)

This will be our running thread for coaching visits moving forward................It will be easier to track keeping it in the same thread.

Today, the Florida coaches and the rest of the college football world are out and about for the evaluation period, checking out various high school football players. One player Florida went to see today was tight-end prospect Carson Sneed.

90% of the Most Likely List will get visits from the Florida staff over the coming weeks.

Carson Sneed 2026 Tight End Tennessee

While discussing tight-end prospects, another big-time target for the Gators is Heze Kent. He should be visiting on Saturday.

Heze Kent 2026 Offensive Tackle

Basketball News:

As you are all aware Aberdeen lands at Kentucky. Florida should be hosting AJ Brown on Tuesday.

Florida is also making a trip to Texas to check in on one of the highest-ranking players on the Big Board, regardless of position.

Felix Ojo 2026 Offensive Tackle

It will be short of a miracle if he lands anywhere other than Texas.

Tariffs

I will say, this was not on my dance card in terms of what I wanted Trump to do. My memory is not perfect, but I am pretty sure (feel free to bring up old posts, if my recollection is off) of the vigorous debates we had on this board, Tariffs were not one of them.

We may be forcing (unnecessarily) a recession not tied to reduce the size of government (which I am ALL for).

I was absolutely for Tariffs to shut down the border. I happen to think that if Canada wants to ship us cheap oil and lumber to reduce the cost of fuel and input costs to so many and in turn allow us to build housing more cheaply, then terrific.

We will see. if the right loses the house in 2026 and then the white house in 2028 because of THIS issue, then it is (similar to Biden excluding Elon from the EV summit) a massive unforced error.

Again, we will see.

Football Spring Football Portal (2025)

Opens 2 weeks from tomorrow, just days after the Orange and Blue game.

Spring Transfer Portal Window: Wednesday April 16, 2025 - Friday April 25, 2025
Note: Players must enter the transfer portal on any of the dates, but don't have to commit or sign to their next school inside the window.

@JasonHigdon , BBlake, Heisman, etc...

Does our staff see any potential areas of need or are we still in the "trimming" mode being that we are moving into the 85/105 roster rules?

Do we anticipate any additions or departures?

After J'Vari Flowers to close out the 2025 class, i have us right around 88 scholarships with 3 of those being guys that they will use NIL to offset a scholarship slot temporarily, I think 1 or 2 were going to be special teams guys like Noel and Craig but not sure.

New Story Doak Campbell Stadium

Can’t make this up. Not only have the nolies reduced stadium capacity by 15,000, now they want to make it a motocross venue to help with their budget.
LOL

Once all construction is completed, Alford said the next steps for Doak following football season to help create revenue is hosting motocross.

We're talking to motocross. I'd love to have dirt season in the stadium. We're already in those discussions, trying to book those and let people know that it's available."

WINNING

Living and working in Maryland has been hard. BUT, I am really enjoying listening to the libs/dems in my office bitch/moan/complain about everything Trump has done the past few weeks.

Just today - heard one complaining about the cost of food in general , but especially the cost of eggs, and then wishing ill well on everyone who voted for him. Oh sure, I could have tried to explain that it was Biden and his policies and spending that caused all the problems, and that it will take a little time for Trump to fix the mess that Biden left, including the killing off of millions of chickens to protect against the bird flu, BUT, I knew she wouldn't believe me anyways. So, I just smile a little and laugh to myself listening.

Basketball Let's play a game

Let's say you have just been named the new GM for the National Champions Florida Gator Basketball team.

Let's also assume for this game (and these are my "play" numbers, not UF's or anyone else's) that you are getting $3.5m in revenue sharing money through UF and you raised another $5m in NIL money for basketball.

So, you have $8.5m to spend.

You have to try and keep the current players you want, and you have some major spots to fill -- especially at the guard level. Keep in mind that there are a lot of other schools out there who like your players; have big money; have cranky fans; and want to take the Natty next year.

So, tell me Mr. or Ms. GM, how do you spend your money?
