Football Samford 2021 OMG

So as not forget how bad it was under Dan Mullen in 2021 (especially as he and his buddies try and /romanticize/reframe his tenure and collapse), we almost lost to Samford at home.

We were down 42 - 35 to Samford at home AT THE HALF.

Samford kicked a FG to make it 52-56 IN THE 4TH QUARTER.

I need to see our defense step up this week. There may be some inconsistency on O with DJ in his first start, but our D needs to show up and dominate.

Football Shane's podcast this morning..

Buddy Martin is on, he's not good...

Shane's slamming the playcalling.

Buddy is really not good...He just said "You can't pay Billy $26M to leave and then hire Lane Kiffin. We'd be broke" Shane: "They'll come up with the money, don't worry about that".

May be a dumb question but would Shane be a good offensive analyst if not outright OC?

Shane: "Jedd Fisch, I know Jedd, ain't gonna happen. Urban Meyer, ain't gonna happen".

Shane: [responding to BM saying Ole Miss won't let Lane go] "If Lane leaves Ole Miss, it'll be for the highest paid contract in America"

Football We know this will get worse quickly if..... and some +/-

We know this will get worse if:

-Graham plays against Samford. You have to give this game to DJ for so many reasons, and you have the perfect excuse.
-DJ or Graham plays and we decide to focus on working on the running game. We need to figure out how to chuck the ball all over the field and we need to work on pass protection. This is the perfect opportunity to work on both. If we don't then this is the same old stubbornness that will likely lead to the end of this regime by/after UCF. Samford will focus on stopping the run and daring us to beat them downfield. If we can't do it against them then we just can't do it. Please don't run in to loaded boxes.
-We keep the same bizarre substitution patterns. Okay maybe you want to get a bunch of guys reps against Samford, but for at least the first few drives (until we are up a few TDs) if you don't know who your best players are then you probably don't have good players.
-Samford makes a game out of this.

Not a lot of positives from Miami but what the hell.... I watched some of the game again.

Some Positives:

D
-Interior defensive line held up well against the run. No huge holes, everything fairly contested. Not spectacular but solid against a very good OL. It's a real shame about Lyons this could have been, and still may be, the strength of the team.
-LBs were solid. Pup was best player on field for us. Shemar will be solid. (I don't understand the substitution here as with many positions. Someone make it make sense)
-CBs were solid. Rarely out of position. Jackson will be solid along with Marshall. Jackson got beat on a perfect throw/catch downfield and there was some miscommunication on one TD, but I think he's a good player.

O
-RBs will be fine if not spectacular
-Slaughter will be very good this year
-Badger needs some work but he can be a player that is effective every week. Routes need serious work.
-Trey Wilson caught a slant, caught a quick pass out of the backfield - needs more touches which is hard when it's all three and outs.

Some Negatives:

D
-Our edge players were non-existent. Outside of Kam James Not one of them made a difference, not one of them made a play. This may be the most concerning thing on D from this game. I still don't understand why Kelby Collins was moved inside, but if he can only get 11 snaps inside, you are keeping one of your most talented players on the sideline. Searcy and Gumbs did nothing. If have no pas rush we are cooked. I'd rather have Kelby at rush end - at least he would push the pocket back and affect the QB. Maybe we need to change to a 4-3 or 4-2-5.
-Safety play. Castell lets everything in front of him get caught uncontested. DJ Douglas looks like just a guy. Asa wasn't good.
-D Moore is what he is at this point and there is no reason to expect him to ever be available consistently.

O
-Perhaps Graham being concussed, while awful for him, creates a situation where DJ gets every snap against Samford. How much more difficult is it to defend us if the QB can keep it on the zone read? Do Ds have to play us differently when the QB is a threat to break contain/scramble, does that slow down the pass rush. Will a more aggressive QB put more pressure on the D downfield? (my concern here is if Graham is cleared, Billy will be stubborn and think he needs the reps to fix things for the meat of our schedule - and DJ will only get a few series)
-If Manuel is good enough to take Barber off for three series, isn't he better than our right tackles? Again someone make the substitution pattern make sense
-We are so easy to defend. Teams know exactly what we are going to do, where our receivers are going. You don't have to contain in the pass rush, you don't have to keep someone in to spy the QB, Miami played man against us and dared us to try and beat them. Our routes did nothing to take advantage of man coverage.

New Story Three Samford Bulldogs to watch versus Florida

Three Samford Bulldogs to watch versus Florida
(Hector)

The Florida Gators will be back home for their second game of the 2024 season. The Gators will look to rebound after an embarrassing 41-17 loss to their in-state rivals, the Miami Hurricanes.

The Gators are searching for their first win of the season and might not have their starting quarterback available. Samford also opened their season with a loss as they lost to West Georgia 38-29. Here are three Samford Bulldogs to watch versus the Florida Gators.

QB Quincy Crittendon

Junior quarterback Quincy Crittendon is the starting quarterback for the Samford Bulldogs. Crittendon is a dual-threat quarterback who earned the starting quarterback job this offseason.

In his collegiate career, Crittendon has spent all three seasons at Samford. Crittendon played in five games as a freshman, including one start. He also played in seven games but never started as a sophomore.

In the 2024 season opener, Crittendon played well against the Georgia State Panthers. Crittendon completed 24 out of 41 passes for 307 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries and two more scores.

2. LB Noah Martin

Fifth-year senior linebacker Noah Martin is one of the best defensive players in the FCS. Martin is coming off an excellent season in which he was named an All-American and listed on their All-Conference list.

In his redshirt junior season, Martin was the most impactful player on Samford’s defense. Martin recorded a team-high 109 total tackles including 66 solo tackles. He also led the Bulldogs’s defense in tackles for loss with 13.5 and finished second in sacks with 3.5. Martin was named First Team All-SoCon and Third Team FCS All-American.

Martin played well in his first game of the season. Against the Georgia State Panthers, Martin led the team in tackles with eleven and solo tackles with eight. Martin will have a tough challenge this Saturday against Montrell Johnson and Florida’s rushing attack.

3. WR Brendan Jenkins

Sophomore wide receiver Brendan Jenkins is one of the top playmakers on Samford’s offense. The Peach State native had an excellent freshman season in which he was recognized as one of the top freshmen in the SoCon.

As a true freshman, Jenkins played in all eleven games including eight starts. Jenkins finished second on the team in receptions with 41. He also had 312 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Jenkins was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year.

The 6’1” 200-pound pass catcher is also off to an excellent start in his sophomore season. Jenkins had four receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown including a 68-yard touchdown reception.

Football Homework assignment…due in the morning…re: Kiffin recruiting

I need someone to look at each of Lane’s college stops…and compare his recruiting class averages (either rank or points) to the schools’ signing classes preceding his employment. Ideally need to include 5-10 years prior at each school to get a good average. I would do it myself but…I don’t want to.

I’m about to go to sleep and will be angry if I wake up and this isn’t completed, preferably in the form of a spreadsheet.

Need 4 UF-sanford tickets

I have a neighbor who is active duty Navy. He is shipping out 09/17 and he has two young sons he wants to take to a Gator game. Checking to see if anyone has 4 tickets to the game Sanford game they need to part with. Not to be too picky but it would be great if the seats are under cover as his kids are 4 and 5 years old. Thanks in advance. Go Gators 🐊

This is what happens when democrats make military decisions

When we left, there were 4 camps. Today there are 52, and Israel and Ukraine are under attack because of this weakness. Let’s not EVER forget they knowingly left thousands of Americans behind enemy lines that many are still trapped there today. This was the worst withdrawal in American history, and the last person standing in the room when the decision was made? Kommie Allah
