Football Talked to a former player…

I had the chance to meet and talk to a former UF great who played for UF in the early 2010s and spent several years in the NFL. I won’t say who it was given what he told me. I spent about 20 mins chatting with him and he was super nice and very open so I asked him the following:

1. Did you like the BN hire a couple years ago? He didn’t say whether he liked the hire or not but he said when it was announced (or about to be announced) he reached out to a couple of his NFL coaches and none of them knew who BN was. The only coach who knew of him was Billy Gonzales who was at FAU at the time. And all Billy said to him was that he met BN once pre-game when they were coaching for opposing teams and BG said that BN seemed like a nice guy. Thats it.

2. I told him that he needed to get back to Gville to help the situation. He said “give me all the money you have and I’ll combine it with all the money I have as buying this staff out is the only answer to our problems.”

3. Finally, I asked who he wanted the next coach to be. I didn’t get the words out of my mouth and he said Lane Kiffin. I said that’s going to be expensive. And he said “everyone good is going to be expensive.” He then said that Kiffin was already “approved” as a head coach at UF. I didn’t really know what that meant but wasn’t going to press him in the comment.

The wagons are circled and CBN is about

fire his last silver bullet, DJ Lagaway. After what I’ve seen today during college football games across the land, Billy still has chance to survive this.

UM is unfortunately this years version of FSU with a cream puff schedule to the playoffs. Then it’s back to reality for them next year. IMO Samford, TAMU, UK are all doable. Add 1 or 2 surprises with a sprinkle of DJ magic and may go bowling. There’s a lot of football left to play this seat folks; however, I understand the frustrations.

We are officially back!!!!

Now all we need is a top 5 football program

Football Just for fun: what type of offense do you think UF should have?

Title says it all.

Always viewed a Florida-based school should be more pass-oriented than what we've seen within recent years given the athletic makeup of the state. Miami, outside of Ward, rushed it 30 times while throwing it 35 times.

Have at it.

I'll beat someone to it though in saying: 'the exact opposite of whatever Napier is running'

Football My WISH

Well, I think all we have left are wishes... I am dumbfounded at how bad we looked last week and I am convinced that if we had a decent offensive game plan and OC we would have been in this game even with our deficiencies. However, Billy is still calling the plays and without a transcendent talent to overcome his poor game planning we are doomed.

Enter DJ Lagway.

I am hoping that today we will see a very talented kid that can make things happen with his feet, that can improvise wisely, that can actually throw a receiver open on a long ball. If he does all that, the defense will not play 8-9 in the box and the running game opens up. The defense stays off the field and believes they have a chance and may play with more passion. I truly believe that Lagway has the chance to turn this thing around and it starts today.

IF he plays well and Billy goes back to being a nice guy and not a coach and wants to play Mertz the majority of the time next week, then he should be fired after the A&M game. We have to play our stud young players now. Dj, LJ and the others needs to be on the field and take their lumps. We will see today if DJ is as good as we hope. If he is, it is the only chance for this team to salvage this season and his play could elevate everyone else.

Napier just needs to get out of the way.

Football Other team’s struggles today give me a small, small bit of hope

Michigan getting wrecked at home like us.

Penn State trying to stave off Bowling Green a week removed from going into Morgantown and winning easily.

Oklahoma State not able to move the ball at all at home against Arkansas (who looks improved FYI).

Kansas State struggling at Tulane.

Maybe we just had a bad week? I don’t know. I just need hope.

Football Miami @ Florida...

Curious what people here think of this game with Miami realistically and the matchups and comparison of the talent. I need to look at it some more but just from looking at who will likely be the starters for each team I can see why Vegas has them a slight favorite in the Swamp. I know paper doesn't mean squat until you show it on the field but on paper with their portal additions and quite a few of their 2023 recruits showing they could play good as true freshman combined with some talented returning players (some from season ending injury) I think this may be a #10 area team talent wise. If you take out the very top teams talent wise like GA, Ohio St, TX and Oregon I think Miami on paper is right there with the teams in the next level. This Miami roster is a lot better than it was last season.

Football The Future.

I’ve heard everyone saying we don’t have the NIL to pull in elite talent. But i’ve also heard we have a top 10 collective in the country. Which is it? Let’s be honest here, either way it goes the Napier/Mullen experiments have made our beloved program a joke. Who would actually want to play here these days? Both hired by Scott Stricklin. Things have to change at the administration level first which something I think we all understand. But who makes that decision and why has the move not been made yet? Give Napier a few games to drastically change the course of the year while the search for a new AD is ongoing. If things don’t workout show this staff the door. How is this not the plan? Florida is not built for mediocrity, and we are below the mediocrity line as it stands. Which brings me to my next question. Who is capable of turning this program around? There’s only 2 realistic answers the way I see it.
-Lane Kiffin
-Dan Lanning
Both have proven they can win at high levels of football. But, Kiffin should be our first call and our priority. I’ve seen people saying that Kiffin to Florida will never happen. What makes you think that? What he’s been able to do at Ole Miss is remarkable, however he could do things at Florida that he could never do at Ole miss. Kiffin has proven he can win in the SEC. Talent is being wasted on the field and that is what is most upsetting about all of this. You automatically become relevant again by making that hire because he can win with a roster as talented as we have right now. Players want to play for him and coaches want to coach under him. Simple as that. We have to empty the bank. Give the man a blank check and bring this program back to where we belong.

Happy Saturday 🐊 Brothers and Sisters

I don’t really have any motivational speech ahead of tonight’s game, but I just wanted to wish you and yours a good day!

Remember, it’s early in the season, which looks to be a long and tumultuous one, but we’re in this together in all types of weather!

I’d say @JasonHigdon to open a game chat so folks could chime in and maybe vent a little, but given the current atmospherics, I’m 50/50 on if that would be wise.

Just sit back and relax, it’s football season. Look for anything promising that will take us into the future. Let’s evaluate all of our freshmen and sophomore’s this evening and take it for what it’s worth!

See you turds and turdettes after the game! GO GATORS! 🐊

New Story Thread prefixes

Didn’t want to completely hijack the Saban gameday thread with prefix talk. Thought this could be a place for further discussion if needed🤷🏻‍♂️

@JasonHigdon @Ldgator I must have missed it where folks were complaining about thread titles. I think what u have done is quite clever. For me personally, however, the prefixes don’t really add much. The flip side is I don’t feel they take anything away so it’s harmless to use them and will do so since it’s how u want it. Thanks for the explanation as I was genuinely curious
