New Story Florida Gators versus UCF Knights Preview

Florida Gators versus UCF Knights Preview
Hector

The Florida Gators are back from their first bye week and will play in another in-state, out-of-conference game in the Swamp. The Gators will host the Central Florida Knights on Saturday night.

Before their bye week, Florida won their first conference game of the season as they defeated Mississippi State 45-28. UCF is coming off their first loss of the season to Colorado. Here is the preview of the Florida Gators versus UCF Knights game.

UCF Knights

The UCF Knights will travel north to take on one of the Big 3 schools in Florida. The Knights will be led by their head coach, Gus Malzahn, who’s in his fourth season as the head coach for UCF.

The UCF Knights offense will be led by their veteran quarterback, KJ Jefferson. The Arkansas transfer was one of the biggest additions UCF made to their roster in the offseason. He has helped UCF become one of the top rushing offenses in the country. On the season, Jefferson has completed 60.5% of his passes for 847 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. Jefferson has also rushed for 211 yards and scored twice.

Another major impact player for the Knights is redshirt senior running back RJ Harvey. The Virginia transfer has led the UCF rushing attack which ranks top five in the nation. On the season, Harvey has rushed for 525 yards on 75 carries and eight touchdowns.

The UCF defense is also coming off a rough weekend in which they allowed over 40 points for the first time this season. The Knights' defense will be led by linebacker Deshawn Pace. The Cincinnati transfer leads the Knights in tackles with 22 tackles including fifteen solo tackles. He also leads their defense in interceptions with two. Two other UCF Knights to watch versus Florida on Saturday are wide receiver Kobe Hudson and defensive lineman Nyjalik Kelly.

Florida Gators

The Florida Gators are coming into this game well-rested after their bye week and will look to get back on track after a 2-2 start to their season. The Gators are expected to be more healthy heading into this game with a potential return for wide receiver, Eugene Wilson III.

The Florida Gators offense will be led by redshirt senior quarterback Graham Mertz. The former Wisconsin transfer had an excellent performance versus Mississippi State and will continue to share playing time with freshman quarterback DJ Lagway.

With Eugene Wilson III out with a knee injury, senior wide receiver Elijhah Badger has stepped up and played well for the Florida offense. The Arizona State transfer leads the Gators in receiving as he has recorded fourteen receptions for 305 yards and a touchdown.

The Florida defense will have a tough task this Saturday as they look to slow down one of the best rushing attacks in the nation. The Gators have struggled against the rush but the extra week of preparation for UCF could help Florida’s defense limit what UCF’s offense can do.

South Carolina transfer Grayson Howard has been a nice spark to Florida’s defense. He leads the Gators in tackles with 20 total tackles on the season including ten solo tackles. Redshirt junior EDGE rusher Tyreak Sapp leads Florida in tackles for loss (3.5) and sacks (2). Two other Florida players to watch this weekend are running back Montrell Johnson and cornerback Jason Marshall.

Everyone okay?

I’m seeing videos of flooding and I think places from Cedar Key to Naples are pretty soggy right now. They’re saying Tally dodged a bullet but there are still 50,000 plus with no power. Poor Perry got hit again.
I’m in Jax and we just got our power back about five minutes ago. My yard is full of fallen palm fronds but aside from that we are fine.
Hope y’all are too. 👍

School presidents in College Student Football League predict 'implosion of FBS'

TL;DR Summary:

The article discusses a proposal for the College Student Football League (CSFL), a reorganization of the 136 FBS schools into two conferences to address the growing divide in college football. West Virginia University President Gordon Gee and Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud support this concept, warning of the possible “implosion of FBS” due to increasing dominance by the SEC and Big Ten, which are considering forming their own 36-school "Super League."

The CSFL plan involves 72 schools (mostly Power 5 teams) forming the "Power 12" conference, with the remaining 64 FBS schools in the "Group of 8." A key feature would be promotion for top Group of 8 schools but no relegation for Power 12 teams. It would also establish compensation for players through a new college football players’ association, making athletes full-time students while paying them directly. The proposal aims to preserve the traditions of college sports while ensuring the financial sustainability of football and other athletics. However, it faces significant hurdles, including securing NCAA approval, restructuring the College Football Playoff, and dealing with existing conference TV contracts.

Basketball Hoops Talk

Looking forward to seeing gator hoops this year.
Who will be the leading scorer this year? Is Clayton the obvious answer even with more ball handling responsibilities?
How bad will we miss Zyon Pullin?

I think Condon takes a big step and our overall depth should be improved. Calling 4 seed or better. How’s errybody else feeling?

Norvell was extended the last 2 years

The one done this year ties him up until 2031.

Norvell's contract will jump from $5.5 million in 2023 to $9.875 million this season. He will receive a small raise each year until his salary rises to $10.835 million during the final year of his contract, which runs through December 31, 2031. The agreement was signed by Norvell, Athletics Director Michael Alford, and Associate General Counsel Gavin Burgess on February 16.

Last year was an aberration. The ONLY good win was the LSU game but, they got lucky in O.T. with Clemson and they had a bad Boston College team comeback and nearly beat them. The article above explained they were afraid of Norvell being hired away by Bama when Nick Saban retired so they increased his pay to the above numbers.

Remember Jacksonville St.?

Did Trump really post......"I hate Taylor Swift"

Being reported, but I don't have truth social. Guy coming unglued?

We are really in, as a country, a terrible position with Trump. Why we ever let a guy go public with a company where he stands to make or lose billions of dollars based primarily on him winning the election or not is an absolute head scratcher. Its so obviously inappropriate and drastically at odds with the public good.

If the numbers don't start moving more his way a lot of bad sh!t is going to happen in the next several months.......before and even worse, after, the election.

Football Game Day Transportation Question

What is the best way to get downtown after a night game?

Any chance at an Uber? If so, where is the best place to get picked up?

If I take my own car, where's the best place to park to get downtown most easily? I usually park on Museum/Frat Row, but I fear getting downtown from there will be a nightmare.

Thoughts? TIA & Go Gators!

DeSantis Education Solution To Not Hiring Enough Teachers Is to Hire Unqualified Candidates

DeSantis says teaching requirements are 'too rigid' as Florida moves to let veterans without degrees teach

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said teaching requirements have been "too rigid" for educators.
  • Florida is issuing temporary teaching certificates to allow military veterans to teach in schools.
  • The policy has garnered criticism from educators who said that it could impact teaching quality.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis complained that teaching requirements have been "too rigid" for requiring educators to have "certain credentials."

His comments come after Florida moved to allow military veterans to teach in public schools. The policy has garnered criticism from educators who said that it could impact teaching quality.

"We want you to be able to teach Florida students," DeSantis said in a video on Twitter. "For too long, the requirements to be a teacher have been too rigid with union bosses insisting that all educators get certain credentials that often have little impact on teaching performance."

The state's new program invites veterans to teach if they served four years and got an honorable or medical discharge and clear a background check. They also must have completed 60 college credits (half of a four-year degree) and pass a Florida subject exam.

"Our veterans have a wealth of knowledge and experience they can bring to bear in the classroom, and with this innovative approach, they will be able to do so for five years with a temporary certification as they work towards their degree," DeSantis said.

The Florida Education Association is anticipating over 8,000 teacher vacancies going into the 2022-2023 school year, according to WPTV. In a recent statement, the agency called on lawmakers to ensure teachers get better salaries and schools have "qualified, experienced teachers."

"Every morning our students recite the Pledge of Allegiance while looking at the star-spangled banner," DeSantis said. "It is fitting that the teacher in the classroom is somebody who took an oath and put his or her life on the line to preserve, protect, and defend our flag and the freedom it represents."
